Pierre Poillievre just announced he is running as a candidate for leadership of the conservative party, and thus PM, after Erin O'Toole got voted out of his position. I think he might make a fine replacement. Candace Bergen as well would be a step up from O'toole.

Pierre Poillievre is clearly a better "replacement" but will hold off until he announces his platform. I still feel a bit wary as the Conservatives signed Agenda 2030 and Poillevre did support Bill C-4. But a much better interim, temporary solution until a better system can be created. I feel more comfortable with the PPC.

For two years we have been waiting for any federal leadership voicing a counter opinion to the official government position. How can we gather a countering force if no leader would come forward? O'Toole was just that, a 't**l, in the most derogatory derivative meaning of that phrase. He had the golden opportunity to become the voice of opposition but he was a coward and a fool!

The Conservative party has no choice but to be that voice, or loose all credibility as a party distinct from the uni-party rule coming out of Ottawa at this time. The NDP has lost all relevance since the election of their leader - a leader that cannot possibly win a federal election - not for another twenty years at least. If the Conservatives do not want to follow down that road to non-relevance then they must offer a clear alternative to the policies of this current government.

It is common, in federal politics, to offer a leader to the public that alternates between English origin and French. The last one, O'toole, counts for the English, so Poilievre is a good standard choice, keeping in line with tradition.

Ultimately we need an entire massive governance overhaul on the entire system itself. But right now we need to triage.
