The double cross.

It's origin as a phrase is disputed but I found this on the internet*1:

Double crossing dealings are the precise opposite of those that are 'fair and square', but the two expressions do have one thing in common - they are both tautological. It has cult symbolic status as a literal double cross symbol too, as well as a strategy of deceit.

UK politician's basic modus operandi, nothing is fair and square, it's spun beyond recognition and delivered slyly.
