The Spring Triangle



The constellations of Leo, Boötes and Virgo are prominent in the spring night sky – by joining the brightest stars of these constellations, we form the asterism known as the Spring Triangle. Begin with Spica in Virgo and connect it to Arcturus, the brightest star in the constellation of Boötes. Then move to Regulus, the brightest star in the constellation of Leo, before joining Regulus to Spica to complete the triangle.

Space Rock News

There’s a Big Rock Stuck Inside One of Perseverance’s Wheels





It looks like the Perseverance rover has an unwanted passenger, a rock.

The rover’s Front Left Hazard Avoidance Camera A captured the image. When the rover is driving, it makes periodic stops to let the Hazard Cameras survey the immediate surroundings. The Hazard Cameras help evaluate the hazards in front of and behind the rover, like large boulders, deep trenches, or dunes. The cameras create 3D views of the surroundings that help the rover make its own decisions without consulting with the rover team on Earth on every move.

The rock’s been there for a few days, based on images from March 2nd. It’s difficult to tell from the picture for sure, but it doesn’t appear to be wedged in. Will it fall out during normal operations?

Many things work differently in space due to the special conditions and zero gravity. One of the most unusual things that happens to an astronaut is the state of "space euphoria". When in space, astronauts have repeatedly reported inexplicable euphoria or an increased sensitivity to their place in the Universe. Do they just feel happier out there? Or does zero-gravity create new connections in their brains?

RUSirius?

The Dog Star





Sirius is nicknamed the Dog Star because it’s the brightest star in the constellation Canis Major (which means “greater dog” in Latin). It’s super bright because it’s one of the closest stars to our sun.

The name comes from ancient Egypt. They believed an alliance between the sun and the brightest star caused summer’s heat. Even today we use the expression “dog days” to mean sultry weather, unaware that its origins echo from those vanished centuries.

How to Find Sirius

Locate Orion, with its belt made up of three bright stars. Follow the stars downward and to the left to the brightest star in Canis Major, Sirius, which has a distinct blue-white color.

Strange Green Furry Snake Discovered in Thailand

A mysterious furry green snake was found floating in a swamp in Thailand. The bizarre 2ft-long creature had a frilly body that looked like fur when it was found in Sakhon Nakhon province on February 26. It was taken home by local Tu, 49, after he noticed it moving slowly in the dirty water near his home while he was walking.

The snake has been identified as a skull snake (Homalopsis Buccata), also known as Linne’s Water Snake, and the fur is actually moss that attached to the slow-moving reptile, and will stay there until it molts.

Sculptors Compete in Siberian Snow Festival

Huge blocks of snow have been chipped, sliced and moulded into works of art in the Russian city of Novosibirsk, as a part of the annual snow sculpture festival. The contest awards prizes to the most spectacular creations, including a grand prize known as the Mayor's Cup.   The overall theme is Siberia's multi-cultural heritage, with 2022 being the Russian year of folk art and the Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Peoples of Russia.

UFO Hovering Above Kiev, Ukraine: 5-Mar-2022

Nothing a fighter jet couldn’t look like in infrared. The one-position up and down could be vertical maneuvers as the plane was going away from the cam. The signature does diminish, from when it stops transiting to the right, until the end.
