    Thanks LM-R:

I could see this building into a monster thread.

    1948 Donora smog

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1948_Donora_smog

"..a historic air inversion resulting in a wall of smog that killed 20 people and sickened 7,000 more in Donora, Pennsylvania, a mill town on the Monongahela River, 24 miles (39 km) southeast of Pittsburgh."

    Bhopal disaster

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bhopal_disaster

".. the world's worst industrial catastrophe. It occurred on the night of December 2–3, 1984 at the Union Carbide India Limited (UCIL) pesticide plant in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India."

"A leak of methyl isocyanate gas and other chemicals from the plant resulted in the exposure of hundreds of thousands of people. Estimates vary on the death toll."

"The official immediate death toll was 2,259 and the government of Madhya Pradesh has confirmed a total of 3,787 deaths related to the gas release."

A sad addition to a sad albeit necessary thread.

Thanks 58andfixed ,Yes was going to add Bhopal later on. I do hope people take the time to have a read, many people my age and younger haven't even heard of Chernobyl which is just shocking.

    also

    Unit 731

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unit_731

    And the atrocities they did.

The one which stuck with me most was the Goiânia incident, very tragic

Not a HAPPY thread to be sure. Should we not forget?
    Agreed.
I could add additional man made disapointments, and yes,we must be reminded of the mistakes of the past to move forward, and not forget the past mistakes...but I personally hate being reminded.
    Thanks for the memories.
Thanks for reminding all of us how we need to do/be better.

Yes shybastid, its not a happy thread, though it was just amazing when i was asking young people if they had herd of "Chernobyl" and the answer was usually "heard of what". This thread is hopefully to be seen as an educational thread, that as you said reminds us of our mistakes and hopefully with some knowledge we don't let them happen again.

I think PETA should be informed of animal cruelty too.

Interesting topic, I was wondering something. Could the current state of the world itself be considered a manmade disaster? hmmmmmm
In the light of the day the other light is hidden, never the less that other light still exists seen by other eyes.

Hiding or telling lies about the human origin, and the E T involvement with the human race is what I consider the greatest man made disaster... hiding behind the phrase - in the interest of national security-
