    I think you've misinterpreted my initial post highlighting the deception within the source you quoted as a personal attack and this misunderstanding has influenced your subsequent replies.

    I've highlighted it not to score points, or to attack you for posting it, but to flag it up to fellow members here so that they're not deceived and also to illustrate what I believe to be an important point. That the reporting of this war has attracted some very dubious and dishonest characters on all sides of the conflict and that we, as readers, have to carefully assess the sources we're using and call them out where justified, regardless of whether their views coincide with our own.

    Why not take a step back, look again at my initial post and the post it refers to and ask yourself how you would feel if someone took a quote from you and reversed the meaning, putting words in your mouth that you never said. You've written about your own experiences in a military role I think? If you had written that you were anxious to get back to join your comrades and someone had taken those words and instead said you were desperate to get out of there and abandon them how would you feel about it? Would that be the action of an honest, trustworthy reporter? Or is it a callow, low trick worthy of the propagandist? Should we overlook such behaviour when it suits us to, or should we try to set a basic standard of honesty and integrity and demand that not only of ourselves, but from those we look to for information?

    I expect emotions to be running high at present and don't care what names you throw in my direction, but I do hope you can take a break and a step back, reread my initial post and look again at the source you quoted and the outright dishonest way they've put words in someone else's mouth.

    Either way, this will be my last post in this thread.

    Exclamation Re: WW3? Ukraine/US vs. Donbass/Russia

    • 'The Old World Order Is Over': These Are The Key Points From Putin's Speech:
    Western sanctions against Russia have had no effect. The economic blitzkrieg had no chance of success from the start. Russian President Vladimir Putin said this Friday at the International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg in a speech that lasted more than an hour.

    Putin called the sanctions "insane" and "ill-considered", and said they hit the EU especially hard. “The sanctions have exacerbated social and economic problems and made food, electricity and fuel more expensive.”

    “The European Union has completely relinquished its political sovereignty. Its bureaucratic elites are dancing to someone else's tune and doing whatever they are told, harming their own population and economy," Putin said.

    The 'blind belief' in renewable energy sources and the suspension of energy contracts with Russia led to an energy price spike last year. Meanwhile, the United States and the EU have printed trillions of dollars and euros during the corona pandemic, the Russian leader said.

    The policies pursued by European and American leaders are exacerbating inequalities and fueling further divisions. This will inevitably lead to a growth of populism and radical movements, major social and economic changes, decline and – in the near future – other elites, the Russian leader said.
    • Hampered by the West
    Sanctions against Russia lead to increasing food insecurity. If a famine breaks out in the poorest countries "it is the fault of the US government and the European bureaucracy."
    Russia stands ready to send food to Africa and the Middle East, where famine is most likely, but is "hampered by the West."
    • Old world order gone
    Putin reiterated that Russia sent troops to Ukraine in February to protect its citizens and residents of Donbass from genocide by Kiev and neo-Nazis protected by the West.

    The president also said that the old world order is over and that Russia is entering a new world order as "a powerful and modern country." The rules of that new world order are set by 'strong and sovereign states'.
    • Important reading
    What the West Doesn't Realize: Putin is seen as a hero across much of Africa, Latin America and Asia. He is doing what other government leaders do not dare or cannot do: he has taken up battle with the imperialists in Washington, which they have cursed,' responds journalist Eric van de Beek.

    “Putin explains that the US New World Order has come to an end. An important lecture, which only ended up in the margins in the western media,” adds journalist Joost Niemoller.
    Investigative journalist Patrick Savalle states: “Putin's historic speech. The old world order is over. Western leaders have deceived their peoples. Colonialism has failed.”

    War is a terrible thing. So is any needless death. And Boris Johnson has a LOT to answer for.

    Many readers will know this already, but a couple of months ago Johnson played a major part in persuading Zelensky NOT to negotiate any more with the Russians, and his most recent trip to Kiev, 3 days ago, was in response/reaction to that of French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi the previous day.

    Macron, Scholz and Draghi were trying to persuade Zelensky to cut a deal with the Russians — any deal — and end the war that's not only destroying his own country but also Europe's economy. Johnson's visit was to persuade Zelensky to do the opposite, continuing to needlessly kill his own soldiers, prolong the war, and end any chance of Ukraine ever being a sovereign country again.

    Johnson is a de facto murderer. I think this is the point here, and one that if we all look at the facts together we should maybe be able to agree on.

    ~~~
    And a reminder here to us all, if I may, with my mod hat on. Mashika, as a teenage soldier, has seen war, and violent death, with her own eyes, right in front of her, sometimes every day. She's written about this in some detail on this thread and various others. I think very few if any of us may be able to fully imagine what she's experienced, but we may be able to understand that the terrible impressions are indelible and are seldom if ever erased.
    This is clearly becoming a personal unwarranted attack,detracting from the serious nature if the thread.
    From Bill:
    Please see my mods' post just above. I think Mashika can be trusted to self-moderate. She's a totally heart-centered person, and she always finds a way back to balance.
    It may be our challenge to empathize with some of what she so very strongly feels, and do our best to understand why.
    Unlike all the rest of us, she's fought in Ukraine personally, has killed others and seen her friends killed and injured beside her, and has witnessed this bloodbath day after day with her own eyes.
    Reported a couple of days again by many media outlets:
    Lithuania enforces EU sanctions on goods to Russia’s Kaliningrad
    Kaliningrad is fully a part of Russia, but exists as a kind of "island" with Lithuania in between.
    The blockage is for goods shipped by rail, which is a longstanding agreement between Lithuania and Russia.
    The Russians can easily get there by sea from St Petersburg, so it's hard to see what the Lithuanians want to achieve besides irritating the Russians even further. (If the Lithuanians try blockade the harbor, then there'll be Russian military action for sure.)
    Russia will have no problem getting supplies there, but are also likely to respond in a non-military, asymmetrical way... starting with (e.g.) cutting off Lithuanian gas completely.
    This guy from europe really lays this out with whats happening 13 minute video https://halturnerradioshow.com/index...ar-with-russia Dire Warning to Americans From Kharkiv, Ukraine; Biden Admin. escalating Ukraine to Nuclear War with Russia
    Then a follow up today :
    https://halturnerradioshow.com/index...ssian-railroad
    UPDATED 10:27 AM EDT -- Panic Buying in Kaliningrad as Lithuania "Sanctions" Russian Railroad
    UPDATE 10:27 AM EDT --
    Senator Klimov: the blockade of Kaliningrad by Lithuania can be regarded as direct aggression
    If the European Union does not correct the “impudent trick” of Lithuania, which banned the transit of almost half of the cargo to the Kaliningrad region, then Brussels itself will disavow the legitimacy of the documents on Lithuanian membership in the EU for Russia and thus “untie its hands” to solve the problem of Kaliningrad transit “by any means.”
    Brief Recap with historical notes:
    Kaliningrad's governor Alikhanov has already called on Russian federal authorities to prepare tit-for-tat measures against Lithuania in wake of the transit ban.
    Alikhanov cited a key condition in the 2004 agreement that was part of Lithuania’s accession to the EU:
    "that the Baltic state will apply in practice the principle of freedom of transit of goods, including energy, between the Kaliningrad Region and the rest of Russian territory."
    "In particular, we confirm that there shall be freedom of such transit, and that the goods in such transit shall not be subject to unnecessary delays or restrictions and shall be exempt from customs duties and transit duties or other charges related to transit,"
    Then, in April...
    When the EU first proposed the blockage of goods as part of the last major sanctions package in early April, Kremlin officials warned of war given Moscow would have to "break the blockade" for the sake if its citizens.
    "I think that for now, this is a game, testing the waters <…>.
    In case of a blockade, as they are saying, the Soviet Union knows how to break the blockades, we (Russia as the successor of the Soviet Union - TASS) have vast experience," the senator said.
    "If they want to go to the length of making us break this blockade to save the lives of our people, who live there, we can do this,"
    Ahead of the new Lithuanian transit ban taking effect, the state railways service was reportedly 'awaiting final word' from the European Commission.
    then Brussels ruled that:
    "sanctioned goods and cargo should still be prohibited even if they travel from one part of Russia to another but through EU territory,"
    In Moscow's eyes, this is tantamount to laying economic siege to part of Russia's sovereign territory and one million of its citizens.
    From me, exactly what does all of this have to do with Ukraine? I guess 40 billion wasn't good enough to send to Ukraine to pay off and bribe whoever, oh that's right its for everything but help. The corruption there, the people here pulling the strings , it isn't Biden , he's to busy falling down on his bike. I keep referring back to " Bankers make more money in one day of war that in 1 year of peace". This entire thing is a shxtshow , it smells bad , and is bad for the worlds populations period.
    Ukraine SitRep - Lysichansk Cauldron - Sinking Morale - More Provocations
    The former CIA and intelligence bigwig Graham Fuller predicts a gloomy outcome of the U.S-Russia proxy war in Ukraine. Gloomy for Ukraine, the U.S. and Europe:
    Contrary to Washington’s triumphalist pronouncements, Russia is winning the war, Ukraine has lost the war. Any longer-term damage to Russia is open to debate.
    American sanctions against Russia have turned out to be far more devastating to Europe than to Russia. The global economy has slowed and many developing nations face serious food shortages and risk of broad starvation.
    There are already deep cracks in the European façade of so-called “NATO unity.” Western Europe will increasingly rue the day that it blindly followed the American Pied Piper to war against Russia. Indeed, this is not a Ukrainian-Russian war but an American-Russian war fought by proxy to the last Ukrainian.
    Contrary to optimistic declarations, NATO may in fact ultimately emerge weakened. Western Europeans will think long and hard about the wisdom and deep costs of provoking deeper long term confrontations with Russia or other “competitors”of the US.
    Europe will sooner or later return to the purchase of inexpensive Russian energy. Russia lies on the doorstep and a natural economic relationship with Russia will possess overwhelming logic in the end.
    Europe already perceives the US as a declining power with an erratic and hypocritical foreign policy “vision” premised upon the desperate need to preserve “American leadership” in the world. America’s willingness to go to war to this end is increasingly dangerous to others.
    All the above had already been said on this website in late February and March. But it is good to see that seasoned intelligence people are now coming to similar conclusions.
    Two weeks ago I wrote that the Ukrainians will soon reach a breaking point. Today's 'clobber list' by the Russia Ministry of Defense has an additional part about Ukrainian troop loses that supports that take:
    Since May 19, during the month, only the 14th Mechanised Brigade of the AFU has lost 2,100 persons who resulted dead and wounded. Due to low moral and psychological conditions, 800 persons destined for replenishing the losses of this unit, refused to go to the operational area and accused officers of incompetence, bribery and cronyism in paying money allowance.
    About 100 servicemen of a reconnaissance unit of the 10th Mountain Assault Brigade have been relieved of combat duty and transported to Kremenchug for investigation.
    A considerable part of the commanders of the 30th Mechanised Brigade of the AFU have abstracted themselves from managing their units and refuse to fulfil combat tasks. All kinds of pretexts are used for simulating illness. The majority of units have already been left without any officers.
    A mechanized brigade has about 3,500 soldiers. In one month the Ukrainian 14th lost two third of its people. The replacements are not trained on mechanized equipment (tanks, APCs) that likely no longer exists and can only be used as unprotected infantry. It is no wonder that they reject to be send into a hopeless situation.
    The Ukrainian leadership is still sending new units into the Lysichansk cauldron in the east. The Russians do not mind that. Their job is to "demilitarize" Ukraine. To enclose more troops in one swoop makes that easier.
    bigger
    The distance between the red Russian held area at the the top to the one at the bottom at the most narrow gap is a mere 15 kilometer or some 9 miles. There is only one open road running through it from west to east which is used for pushing resupplies to the Ukrainian troops in Lysichansk.
    bigger
    Currently fighting is taking place over Mykolaivka at the bottom of this detail map. Five kilometer north of it is the Lysichansk refinery. It will be the next target. The last road to Lysichansk runs directly north of it. When that road comes under direct Russian fire the cauldron will be closed and the boiling will start for those who are in it. For the ~20,000 soldiers in the cauldron it will mean surrender or die.
    If that is still possible it will further lower the morale of other Ukrainian troops.
    "We, soldiers of the 8th battalion of the 10th brigade, based near the city of Seversk. We appeal to you, Mr. President, Mr. Zaluzhny, and to the Ukrainian people [...] We demand the immediate rotation of our remaining troops, physically and mentally there are no more forces.
    It is interesting that the troops also appeal to General Zaluzhny, the top commander of the Armed Forces of Ukrainian (AFU). It is the first time I hear that. The idea to fight in Lysichansk until the end came from Zelensky and his civilian advisors. Zaluzhny has reportedly been against that. He wanted those and other troops to retreat and wage a more mobile campaign. That would have shortened the front line and given a chance to create reserves that can rest and prepare for a later counterattack. There are rumors that Zelensky's advisors are now lobbying to replace Zaluzhny as he has increased his media presence. They probably fear a coup.
    The Russian side reported yesterday that it had killed 50 generals and higher officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with a missile strike. The group was meeting to plan the further fight in the southern region of Odessa and Kherson. This now seems to have been confirmed:
    Management Impact Solutions Consulting, LP - @MiExecSearch - 15:10 UTC · Jun 20, 2022
    Russian Armed Forces beat out AFU generals, who were holed up in the rear. The military-civilian administration of Zaporozhye region confirmed results of a missile strike on AFU command post near the village of Shirokaya Dacha, 57 top-level officers were killed.
    Last night, probably in response to the strike on the officers, the Ukrainians fired a missile against a gas and oil production platform in the waters near Crimea. The installation was damaged. Russia considers that to be a direct attack on valuable infrastructure within Russian territory and will likely give a strong response.
    Yesterday Lithuania announced that it would immediately prohibit Russian goods under EU sanctions to cross from Belarus to the Kaliningrad enclave at the Baltic seas which is Russian territory. That is in breach of several international agreements which guarantee unhindered Russian access to the city. Russia has yet to announce a response to this new provocation.
    Patrick Lancaster is an American who has been living in the Ukraine for the last 8 years. He has live, unedited war correspondent footage. It definitely shows the Ukrainians shelling Ukrainian citizens. (Warning if you have difficulty confronting violence and war)And if you have a weak stomach it shows dead people.
    I find it amazing they are so nice to him considering the Americans are supplying shells and missiles which are killing and wounding people.
