Police sources: 18-inch pipe bomb found behind Holmesburg church, near railroad tracks

HOLMESBURG - Philadelphia police are investigating after a pipe bomb was reportedly discovered behind a church in Holmesburg.

Philadelphia police sources tell FOX 29 an 18-inch pipe bomb was found Sunday, just after 1:30 p.m., behind St. Dominic’s Catholic Church, on the 8500 block of Frankford Avenue, in Philadelphia's Holmesburg section.

Officials say a passerby found the pipe bomb, and noted it was a PVC pipe with capped ends and black powder on it.

Police shut down Frankford Ave., between Benson and Blakiston while the Philadelphia Police Bomb Squad was called to the scene.

The bomb squad safely took the pipe bomb out of harm’s way.

No further details were released in the incident.

Norfolk Southern’s Ohio derailment disaster has highlighted the high cost of cutting costs.
A controversial railroad concept called Precision Scheduled Railroading has gained traction in the industry, leading to reduced personnel and inspection times.
Under PSR, rail inspectors get only 90 seconds to inspect each train car.

Money saved on the front end can be lost in one catastrophic accident. There is no better recent example than the derailment of a Norfolk Southern train carrying copious amounts of toxic vinyl chloride and other toxic chemicals. By now nearly everyone knows the tale of toxic fires and fears of explosion which led officials to drain undamaged tank cars carrying the same toxic chemicals which escaped the initial fires and then burn those chemicals as a precaution. Toxic smoke and residue settled far and wide from the crash site near East Palestine, Ohio, a small town of about 4,700. (You can read a summary of the possible effects of these chemicals on living organisms here. But I think the writer might actually be underplaying the consequences both short- and long-term.)

I don’t know how to transfer a video. According to this woman in California, a train that is a few miles long is sitting on tracks with chemicals on it. The nearby ranchers don’t know what this is. She says it’s a few miles away from San Francisco’s water supply. I think it’s something to keep an eye on.

This may prove to be a very significant video. Excellent find Michelle. If something happens we will come to a far better understanding of the nature of the derailment of toxic poison into the environment at strategic areas to do maximum damage. I would hope that we can keep this video documented. I have a very, very strong feeling that this may become very significant. The other possibility is that revealing this before any "planned demolition" might possibly stop it from happening. That would be wonderful.. I do not do any social media, but sharing this video could possible prevent it from occurring.

I readily admit that our infrastructure is rapidly and intentionally being allowed to deteriorate and that definitely can play a role in derailments.

If this is unheard of in this area according to the locals to have a huge number of train cars are carrying some sort of chemical just sitting on a track, one that would destroy a large number of nut trees and is positioned to poison water supplies and something happens to it. There will be no denying that this is a infrastructure failure.

I seriously hope we can keep this video. This is a citizen that is noticing something way, way off. And thank goodness, she had the guts to document and post it.

I'm pretty sure if by some "coincident" some hideous tragedy does occur, Gavin Newsoms response will be on par with Biden.

So, what's going on in Ohio eh?

On Saturday afternoon (February 18, 2023), a loud boom was heard by Warren’s locals, miles away from the Cleveland-Cliffs Coke plant.

A plume of smoke could be seen rising from the plant located on Main Avenue, with footage of the explosion fallout captured on social media. The plant produces coke, a coal-derived fuel used in the process of manufacturing steel.

An industrial plant in Ohio was ripped apart by a deadly explosion that spewed molten metal and debris so far that it rained down on to neighboring buildings.

A 46-year-old man was killed and more than a dozen workers were taken to hospital, mostly suffering from burns, after the blast at the I. Schumann & Co. metals plant in Bedford.

As most readers here know, I very seldom do 'op-ed' pieces, where I ramble on about some contemporary story. I tend to avoid them because I suspect most people who are regular readers here know more or less what I think about such things anyway, and don't need any reinforcement.

But after watching this carnival develop more, I've reinvested in my circus peanut futures, and have decided to rant about it anyway, because I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm livid.

By now everyone has heard about that freight train derailment in the American state of Ohio. And by now most readers here, I assume, have heard just about every possible theory about who caused it and why.

It is, I suppose, a sign of our times and cultural degradation that many people now view such events not as 'accidents' but as the result of deliberate sabotage and covert action, or at the very least, the result of deliberate government and/or corporate inaction. It certainly is the case with the derailment. There are theories ranging the whole gamut, from ideas about deliberately polluting and poisoning the water table, to disaster capitalism to force nearby Amish farmers to sell out and buy their land on the cheap, to more elaborate theories about computer chip production facilities, and so on. In other words, cultural perceptions have so shifted that when such events do occur, a significant portion of the population no longer first thinks of them as accidents, but as manifestations of sinister purpose and planning.

You can count me in that group, and it's very easy to see why people have come to such conclusions.
