Movie 'Contact' - Hidden Gem

A few months ago I watched the movie Contact (1997) by Robert Zemeckis, purely for entertainment purposes. I had watched some of Zemeckis' movies before and studied his work a bit. A few things bothered me about this movie and I set out to analyse it. I found a gem that I would like to show you. After all, what good is a treasure if there's no one to admire it? And I think it can be of value to make sense of these strange times.

Can I ask Carl, was it the entire movie that you found to be a "Gem"? Or was there a revelation that you had while watching a certain part of it? I only ask because many are short of time, and may not have the time to devote to watching a full length movie at the moment... Such as myself... But you piqued my curiosity on your post.

Author and producer Carl Sagan died during production. He was reportedly taking great care to ensure that science was accurately depicted in this movie.

Carl Sagan was to cameo as a member of the committee selecting an occupant for the machine, but died before the scene was filmed.

In Carl Sagan's book, the capsule returns with a small amount of sand on the floor, further proof Ellie was telling the truth.

Thanks all for your kind words of support. I hope I will not disappoint you. Thanks too, Bill for the download link and the moderator note. I have to clarify that I have no problems at all with discussions of the movie. When I said in the opening post: "I would like to ask those that have seen it to refrain from posting." I meant those who (think they) have seen the 'gem' (it), not those who have seen the movie (it). (You can definitely post some excited comments if you think you've found it. ) So, John, thank you too for posting the movie discussions/analyses. I will definitely have a look.

Dizi and others, sorry to disappoint you. I know there is too much information going around these days and we only have so much time. At this point I will say it is not a single scene, or quote, nor the entire movie that is this gem to me. It was more like sifting through sludge to find the gold nuggets. If you do not want to put in that sifting energy yourself, which I fully understand, I can only suggest that you check back once in a while until all the sludge has been rinsed off.

Inversion, indeed, the movie is dedicated to Carl Sagan.

First of all, I would like to go back to the past, to review the movie Back to the Future. I have no active link, but maybe someone else does? Feel free!
No need to watch it, especially not if you are short on time. (Dizi) And, yes, by all means, do share the analyses of 'hidden messages' in BTTF. My point is to establish Zemeckis' credentials, to drive up the value of the Contact gem.

Thankyou for the link, I had not seen it before. It seemed a bit dull and dated at first but got more and more interesting. The bit about how they worked out the message seemed rather plausible. Lots of interesting bits but keen to hear the analysis.

I really enjoy watching this Movie. I hadn't seen it for quite a few years and even enjoyed it more this time. I thought Jodie Foster acted her part convincingly, and there does seem to be hidden meanings in the theme, maybe different to each viewer. Thank you for bringing it to my attention again, it does make one think about the nature of reality

Thanks to Bill for posting the download link... After a very long day yesterday, I was able lastnight, to lay down and play the movie on 1.25 speed, and get through it again... And I am glad I did, because it has been awhile, but I apparently had seen parts of it in the past... Just never the entire movie...

Karl, thank You for opening up the discussion about the possibility of the hidden "gem" in the show, as I think we get many clues in many different movies, and it is up to us to put them together.. Perhaps it is an artifact of the industry, where many will use similar ideas to add cohesion to their scripts, but it is like mining for gold, or building a puzzle, with missing pieces... and it is quite fun actually...

I will start with a full disclosure that I do not believe I have found the gem, so if I inadvertently give anything away, it is not my intentions, but Karl says we can start making observations and discussing them...

I noticed that the movie incorporated elements that were a running theme in a few other movies... For example, Star Trek, (Next Generation I believe)... did an episode, or series of episodes, where they went to Griffith Park Observatory, in Southern California, and ran into Sarah Silverman (Comedian), and she found code in static from their data collection hardware, much like the WOW signal... Which mimicked in some ways the scene where Foster got the messages.

Another thing that made me think that perhaps they may have actually ran experiments where this may have actually happened, was something I think maybe Bill himself had done... I may be wrong here, (I just woke up)... but I either saw this in a movie, (Alternative 3), OR Bill himself, asked a scientist on film at one point, if it was possible to time travel... More specifically, was it possible to "step out of time, and move forward and or backwards, and then reenter time" as we know it... And the answer, if I remember properly was.... It does not break the laws of physics to do so... So yes, it was a possible potential that could be accomplished...

You have me stumped on BTTF however... I suppose I could throw everything at the wall, such as the 88 speed you must reach, or the time on the clock, but I suppose I will have to wait patiently for your analysis... I feel like a kid at a party, waiting to whack the pinata... HAHAHA...

My question, if it doesn't take you off track, is are you more hoping to cement the credentials of Zemeckis as possibly having insider information, such as Kubrick potentially had? Are you going to point to things he placed in the movie before it was public knowledge? But it IS NOW public knowledge?

This film had a HUGE impact on my life! I am so glad to know others feel the same way!

It had such a powerful feeling for me that the VLA was a focal point for me at probably the apex of my experience of awakening and a long slow drudge through repeated targeting incidents, MiLab issues and waking up to my spontaneous memory recall of my use in the eugenics projects. For me the gem will always be THE SOUND she hears. I can hear it in my head just thinking about it.

After laying in the deep space starscape of the high sierras and then coming back to town and ‘the world’, the human world, a and this film on screen in the theatre being my first point of reconnect… it was unparalelled. We are consciousness time travelers and navigating my own memory scape IS what this movie demonstrates for me. Anyways, it had been myfirst major backpacking trip in my life, in my Junior year of a philosophy degree at UC San Diego, and between the peace and freedom of the wild places and the magic of this movie its no wonder why after my graduation with my degree that was about as meaningful as a roll of TP to me, I ran off to wander in the woods and landed up teaching astronomy and outdoor science to kids at Astrocamp in Idyllwild CA. This movie was a directional signpost in my life that changed… everything.

I don't know if this is the 'gem' referred to in the OP. I doubt it is as 'gem' is not the word I would use. A 'subtextual nuance' might be better.

Secret discussions, closed proceedings, off-the-book findings. This for me IS the grand take away of the film.

Even after everything that happened, after everything the people saw and experienced, they -- the powers that be -- still managed to put a lid on it. Blow it all off. Make it all go away.

They put the people back to sleep, like nothing ever happened.

Also one of my all-time favourite movies ever. I was utterly devoted to Carl Sagan, and really admired Jodie Foster as an intelligent actress who aced every role she played. I had all of Carl Sagans' books, including his novel "Contact". This was the only contact movie that I liked - I found many of the others contrived, cheesy.

I do think I may have seen the hidden gem, so I will not say anything further at this stage. Thanks for the intriguing thread.

John, I particularly liked the first one of your Contact analysis videos. I feel the same admiration for Zemeckis' work, but look at it from a different angle.

Thank you Dizi! I admit, my goal is to have most of you craving for the piñata at the end, while a few - hopefully - will have found it on their own. (Arwen? I like your picture.) This thread is about the analysis of the movie Contact, and indeed, what we are being told more generally - hidden in plain sight - by the entertainment industry. The BTTF series is a masterpiece in its own right and deserves a ton of attention, but I will basically race through it, using it only to establish Zemeckis' credentials. Yes, there is no doubt he has inside information, and what he put into BTTF I is now very much public knowledge plastered all over the internet.

Artemisia, thanks for sharing your experiences. And the clip. The movie is about the message. And understanding the message is key to understanding the movie.

Maybe for a reason? To see what I want to show you, you need an official version, or as close to it as possible. (Why on earth - or in space! - could that be important?) The copy that Bill kindly shared will not help you! (I checked.) I suggest you stick with the Odysee version in the first post.

Let me just say there is an entire story being told, related to but different from the surface story, that goes completely over your head if you don't know how to look for it.

Mari, the opening scene! Everyone putting away their phones (not so much in 1997), making themselves comfortable waiting for the movie to start, while it has just started. It begs for a comparison with Kubrick's 2001. (I will not go there, as it would lead us off track.)

I had expected a flurry of BTTF comments or videos, but everyone seems familiar with it. Very good. If you need a quick recap, I like the work of Shaking My Head Productions. (I did not review this video, and this is not a blank check endorsement for his work, which I find often long-winded and repetitive. But hey, nothing is perfect.) He is also on bitchute. Unfortunately 'Horselover Phat' retired from blogging and his Subliminal Synchrosphere has been taken offline. Wayback machine if you want, but then you still need to find his BTTF analyses.

In short? BTTF I predicts 9/11.

Nowadays we are quite familiar with predictive programming in the Simpsons, X-files etc. But this was 1985, and BTTF went into quite some detail. More importantly, Zemeckis tells you, he is sending you a message from the future to save your life. And he (Marty) shouts to you (Doc):

I like that you have made a connection between Zemekis, the Contact movie and Back to the Future, and this non-linear capacity that many of us are becoming more adept at employing.
