Default Australia votes to reject an Indigenous Voice to Parliament

I've been catching various news items about this, but I daren't pretend to understand it fully. Could some of our Australian members explain all this better?

Default Re: Australia votes to reject an Indigenous Voice to Parliament

    West Australian here.

The Voice was pushed initially by Aboriginal groups as part of the process of reconcilation between Indigeous and non-Indigenous Australia, which then won the support of the Australian Labor Party, which on return to government made good with its promise of a referendum on the Voice. The Voice would mark particular recognition of Aboriginal Australians as the first people of Australia, and was intended to serve as a high level advisory to government to ensure the sort of Indigenous participation in government thought necessary (by its supporters) to 'close the gap' (gap in social and economics outcomes between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australia).

The referendum became an opportunity for non Indigenous Australia to push back on the narrative that the 'gap' had anything to do with any sort of 'systemic racism'. Instead, the implicit view (outside of official Australia - wholly supportive of the voice) was that Indigenous Australia already enjoys sufficent support, and now it must reform itself. The vote followed predictable lines : wealthy, left wing electorates voted in favour, the rest of the country against.

This is the second time a referendum supported by 'everyone' (official Australia) has been defeated in Australia ('99 republic was first). Universities, academia, media massively behin a yes vote, enjoyed enormous corportate support and yet again gave one the impression that Australia is a one party state. Watching media coverage of the referendum reinforced this impression many times for me, often in hilarious ways. A telling anecdote : on our way to vote, my partner saw a 'no' campaigner and remarked that was the first time she saw any evidence of the 'no' campaign.

Yet nonetheless it was a landslide. A critical mass of Australians - in the privacy of the ballot box - decided to give 'official Australia' a piece of its mind.

For what it's worth, I voted 'yes'. Aboriginal Australia has been humiliated, and I fear what this will do for social peace and cohesion in the years ahead.

Although I was not born and bred in Australia, I am a dual-citizen with about 14 years of my adult life spent there, and I generally follow Australian news. The recent vote about Australian aboriginals "Voice" is similar to the Black Lives Matter movement in the States. I see it as exasperating the racial divide, not healing it. Look at how corporate America sent huge amounts of guilt money to the Black Lives Matter organization only to see those funds disappear, and never be accounted for. The whole thing was just another version of divide and conquer as far as I can tell.

Everybody including aborigines recognised The Voice was a political power grab which would allow the political class white or black to land grab at will. The pretext is reconciliation the truth it is far from it.

Frankly, aborigines that I have spoken to don't want hand outs they want proper support in their communities such as policing, youth guidance and education.

PM Albo can cry crocodile tears over losing The Voice referendum.

PM Albo how about shedding a tear for the 3 out 3 aboriginal children (THAT'S RIGHT ) that get rapped in the Northern Territory due to inaction of the Northern Territory Police.

The Voice I say " NO ", and thank God it was a " NO ".

Peta Credlin explains 26-page Uluru Statement Yes campaign doesn’t want Aussies to see

    Sky News Australia
    8 Aug 2023

Sky News host Peta Credlin explains the 26-page Uluru Statement from the Heart, the Voice to Parliament’s Yes campaign does not want Australians to see.

“Now I suspect the PM has never actually read it – after all, Bill Shorten was the Labor leader at the time the Uluru Statement from the Heart was made,” Ms Credlin said.

“But whether he’s read it or not doesn’t matter, because that’s Albanese has committed to implement in full, that’s what Albanese has committed to, in full.

“In politics, it’s not the conspiracy that gets you, it’s the cover-up, and there’s been one almighty cover-up here from the top of the government right to the Prime Minister, and down to sections of the media, to let you think that the Uluru Statement is just a benign little one-pager.

“It’s not … All Australians need to read and understand the full Uluru Statement before the vote.”

Jacinta Price’s speech could mark a ‘turning point’ in Australian race relations

    Sky News Australia
    14 Sept 2023

Sky News host Andrew Bolt has hailed Shadow Indigenous Affairs Minister Jacinta Nampijinpa Price’s “stunning” speech in the National Press Club, saying it could mark a “turning point” for race relations in Australia.

The shadow minister fronted the press gallery just one week after Indigenous leader Professor Marcia Langton.

Mr Bolt criticised Professor Langton’s “old race politics of the left”, comparing her comments with Ms Price’s call for a new era.

“Price, of course, countered the lies of the Yes campaign,” he said.

“It's false to say Aborigines don’t already have a voice. Look, for instance, at the 11 people in federal parliament who identify as Aboriginal.

“No, it’s false to say this Voice would just give advice – in fact, the word advice is nowhere in the words we'll be voting on.

    AND JUST NOW ...

When you have no argument revert to slander.

'Ignore them': Lefties slam 'No' voters as 'racist and unsympathetic'

    Sky News Australia
    15 Oct 2023

Those who want to use the Voice referendum result to paint Australia as "racist and unsympathetic" to the Indigenous community should be ignored, says Sky News host Rita Panahi.

Ms Panahi looked at reactions from “privileged lefties” who were “emoting wildly all over the internet” following the result.

“They are not serious people,” Ms Panahi said.

“They do not act in good faith, they’re the same destructive activist class who relentlessly push far-left agendas no matter what.

“Ignore them and be proud of a country that voted for equality.”

    Side Note:
This sky news report speaks to my point above. There is a failure in government to address serious issues, and it comes from the aboriginal man for the yes camp. Whom is recognising the issues but not willing to address them instead push for The Voice instead. His point is a failure to acknowledge what really needs to be done, fixing the current batch of government failures.

So The Voice isn't going to address these issues, but reviewing and proactively addressing these governmental failures will.

And for 3.8% of the population being aboriginals or just over 1,000,000 people we spend 34,000,000,000 per year on them or put another way that's $34,000 per person per year.

And we still can't get it right? Why, kickbacks, corruption, mismanagement, incompetence and the list goes on.

‘Let me finish’: Heated clash over falling education standards in Indigenous communities

    Sky News Australia
    14 Oct 2023

Sky News host Peta Credlin has clashed with Liberals for Yes co-convenor Sean Gordon over how to make a difference in Indigenous communities.

Ms Credlin highlighted how falling education standards in Indigenous communities are partly due to Indigenous parents.

“Let’s have an honest conversation about the nation and the taxpayer and our structures of government stepping up come tomorrow, but also Aboriginal people to take control of their lives,” she said.

Mr Gordon noted that Indigenous people cannot be the only ones to blame for children not going to school and questioned if the education system is failing.

“Is the way in which government departments are engaging with Indigenous communities failing? If they are failing then we have got to make adjustments to ensure they are properly engaging.”

A 'biological' perspective - it is impossible/ illegal for modern mainstream people to be honest about racial issues; and this means that confusion and stark contradiction is rife.

It seems that the Australian Aborigines were genetically highly isolated from other people for about 50,000 years, maybe more; and have evolved to survive and thrive in some very harsh conditions, and as a consequence have become genetically (and psychologically, behaviorally) very different and distinctive.

When two peoples are so different by descent and psychology; we should therefore not simply assume that a society that (more or less) suits those of European descent, would suit those of Aboriginal descent - or vice versa. But I think that is exactly what is assumed - that there is some kind of magical recipe whereby some kind of single and unified Australia can be devised whereby Aborigines and Europeans can thrive equally, side by side and integrated.

My best guess (as an interested outsider) is that the best viable answer would be complete independence and separation of an Aboriginal 'state' - which was rigorously left-alone by Europeans to manage its own affairs in the ways that suited it best - and acceptance that these Aborigine 'ways' would often seem 'unacceptable' to modern mainstream Europeans; but this is none of our business.

Lots of good information above. To add my thoughts: the government spent a huge amount of money pushing the Yes vote in a highly emotional and sustained campaign. There was no balanced debate or consideration and so a lot of people could 'smell a rat' for that reason alone. Trust in government has deteriorated significantly and I suspect that was a big factor. A related factor was that many people were confused and unsure, with not enough basic information being given about why we need more levers than we already have to fix the massive problems we clearly have (in spite of or because of all the money we throw at it) in improving the lives of Aboriginal people.
My other observation comes from the last year of living and working in the middle of Aboriginal communities in the Northern Territory,: the obvious problems here are very basic {health, food, housing etc) and no-one was interested in the politics or appeared to understand the proposal or care about it one way or the other. A big groundswell of indigenous support for and debate about 'the Voice' would have made a difference perhaps, especially in the NT where the majority of Aboriginal people live, but it was of no interest here outside of the political class and government funded services.
Bruce Charlton: a 2 state solution would not work at all. There are hundreds of Aboriginal languages, clans, peoples and traditional lands- they are not one people that could just inhabit half the country, and such a solution would lead to endless overt conflict between Aboriginal peoples and with white people as well.

I agree it would not work; but it is the only thing that could work. But it would require a great change in attitudes. For example "There are hundreds of Aboriginal languages, clans, peoples and traditional lands- they are not one people that could just inhabit half the country" cannot be correct, since that situation was exactly what existed before colonization.

But... "would lead to endless overt conflict between Aboriginal peoples" - and presumably that was also exactly the situation pre-colonization. It is, indeed, the human condition for all known tribal peoples.

The Europeans would have to take the attitude that 'endless overt conflict' among independent Aborigines - if that is what happened - (or mistreatment of women, or infanticide, or whatever) was none of their business. And that's not going to happen. So I see zero prospect of any genuine improvement, and a very high probability of things getting much worse.

This is just one of many aspects of the established self-destructiveness and (mostly) covertly suicidal motivation of Western civilization. This problem goes very deep, and will probably lead to collapse from some other cause (such as war), before the Aboriginal problem has the chance to dominate.

I didn't vote, Bill, I wanted no part of it because I already know what I want for a solution to the real issues and it's not that, it's a tribe who lives in north Queensland.

They are genuine sovereigns who not only live what's best for all Australians but all of humanity. My dream is that they one day are the head of the government, temporarily at least, to nurture a real unification and blossoming of this sweet and pure nation.

I want them not because they are first peoples but because they are amongst the very finest people in this country and the world, and secondly because they are first peoples.
Never give up on your silly, silly dreams.

You mustn't be afraid to dream a little BIGGER, darling.

This slightly of topic, but relevant in the sense that " IF " PM Albo and his ilk were genuine about helping aboriginals regardless of politics they would support a royal commission into the sexual abuse of Indigenous children.

Because they are part of the satanic cult and so involved in child sexual abuse, they voted down Jacinta Prices motion to conduct a royal commission. When they should be in full support of this issue being investigated.

This one point itself makes the entire idea of " The Voice " pointless and a joke when the issues at hand are " deliberately not " being addressed.

Jacinta Price ‘appalled’ Royal Commission into abuse of Indigenous children being voted down

    Sky News Australia
    17 Oct 2023

Shadow Minister for Indigenous Australians Jacinta Price says she was “appalled” at the senators who voted down her urgency motion for a Royal Commission into the sexual abuse of Indigenous children.

Ms Price called for Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to hold the Royal Commission on Tuesday, which multiple senators voted down.

To audit – the many services and to work in a bipartisan manner to bring about common sense practical approaches to solve some of these issues,” she told Sky News host Paul Murray.

“I was just absolutely appalled at the excuses and the flippant way in which some of the Labor senators behaved in response to this call.

Labor, the Greens, and Senator Pocock, all voted this motion down.”

Not only did PM Albo stack the deck by having a multi million dollar YES campaign whilst suppressing NO supporters.

PM Albo's mob seemingly tried to cheat at the voting stations, as this scrutineer from Lithgow Public School voting station testifies to.

Being indigenous from NZ and living now in Australia….
I’ve seen the same hype from the nz government
Attempting to pacify the Māoris in very unclear policies
    That not many people understand.
I live in WA and the No vote was unanimous …
The aboriginal people need to fix their family unity.
Stop incest and rape of their own children, strengthen the
Ties that woman have to their children… focus on the renewal
Of love and compassion and family … this is what is required
Not more say in political mumbo jumbo

The Voice is a weapon designed to divide people and hijack the constitution, disguised as a reconciliation platform. While we've managed to avert this catastrophe this time around, we need to stay vigilant and get familiar with our civil rights, as the country is run by corrupt spineless leaches taking their orders from the ruling class.

The results are in official it was claimed 2.6 million people didn't vote, Riccardo Bosi was told 3.9 million didn't vote. In a population of 26 million people that is 10% to 15% of the population didn't vote. There was a penalty of $20 for not voting.
