Thank you Shaberon for the quite enlightening quote on Hindutva India and Israel. This was to be expected, considering the fierce persecutions of Muslims in India – but still, the starkness of the contrast with earlier is striking.

Quite an evolution, which one may speculate that a lot of energy (Energy = Money * the square of light speed) was put into – but one which might also have been expected considering that a few decades before Pakistan had been turned from a “subcontinental” Muslim country into a cultural colony of Saudi Arabia. (As far as I know, the Muslims in India are to quite an extent Shia – or one might also say that the Muslims who during the partition of the Raj went to the "pak” (=“pure”) areas in West and East Pakistan were mainly Sunni Muslims – whereas Shia Muslims (Shia Islam being far less literalist, or more esoteric and open to spiritual interpretations of the Qur‘an) stayed in the, back then, tolerant India. All the more tragic.

This Hindutva/Zionism alliance against Islam may give the West the opportunity for breakup attempts against the cohesion of the (new) BRICS countries..

Distasteful though it is (understatement), it's believed that Hamas shelters are directly underneath the hospital and also where they are holding at least 250 hostages. Israel doesn't seem to be allowing this to sway them at all.

In 2021 Hamas claimed to have built 500 kilometres (311 miles) worth of tunnels, the deepest so far was 230 feet underground, discovered by Israel in 2020.

It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to wonder if there are secret tunnels leading out to Egypt or Lebanon.

I didnt know if this got posted yet on this topic, very tough read , from 2002 to 2012 I managed repossessed homes, It awakened me to the fact that there are those that dont deserve to have a house, pets or children as they lived liked total pigs and cared for nothing . It was a small percentage of homes like that but still. After reading this article it awakened those thoughts and moved right straight to the bottom of the gates of hell. About ten or a dozen years ago well-meaning people in Europe were inspired by the "indignado” movement that pleaded for hospitality and generosity towards all people who sought relief from their war-stricken countries in Europe.

In the French-speaking part of Europe (France, Switzerland, Belgium) there was this magnificent saying: Qui est ici, est d’ici. Meaning: who is here, is from here. Meaning: whoever is our guest because we live by the moral laws of hospitality instead of the paranoid laws of borders, is as if he or she were born here. The whole idea represented by almost infinitesimal word-play because the phrase is to be pronounced: kee eahh teecee, eahh deecee. The difference between just being here and being born here represented by the difference between the "tough” dental sound T and the “soft” dental sound D..

The whole Israeli adventure right from the start was only possible because the local population treated the immigrants from Europe (and I am referring here to the Jewish people leaving Europe in the 20s, disgusted as they were at what the European powers had done to the young, murdering them Ukraine-wise in the trenches) with the Arab, and especially the Palestinian, culture of hospitality.

Then after some time the guests started to steal the silver used for cutting up the lamb stew they were being offered. A little later they turned their hosts into lamb and the hosts’ houses into high-rises along Tel Aviv Playa.

Why haven’t they followed the example of their hosts back then, and why aren’t they doing that right now? Qui est ici, est d’ici. Who is here, is from here.

Belgium is a country most foreigners do not find particularly sympathique. I am quite critical of the country I was born in myself. But: in defence of Belgium the following. The verbal skirmishes between the Dutch-speakers and the French-speakers are laughed at the world over. Yet the Belgian political system organises the coexistence of two civilisations within the same borders quite elegantly. Without any bloodshed. Ever. Thirty years ago Israeli and Palestinian delegates studied the Belgian system. Isratina, as Muammar Khadafi called what in his eyes Israel and Palestine were destined to become (saying that became one of the reasons for his bestial killing) would have become a second Belgium and another example of what should really be done in countries.

How odd that it never materialised. Against all those, who also on this site, profess that "multicultural” countries are not viable, it should simply be stated: "your strange theory is falsified by the very fact that such a country exists – and thrives."

I think such a potential evolution (not a side-by-side state nationalism, but “Isratina”, i.e. “Belgium”) was somehow sabotaged on the way.

I am not arguing semantics, or history, or politics, or war. I simply state the conclusions based on what has happened in the last week. There was an incursion. Innocent civilians were intentionally murdered. What sort of response is appropriate after that? A tsk, tsk? Or a wallop upside the head?
Let's just accept that Hamas planned this attack for months. Kept it secret. Amassed weaponry. Moved troops to the border. No one the wiser.

Their plan was to surprise attack the unarmed citizens? Not destroy the Israeli ability to fight back and destroy their bases, planes, tanks, troops, armories but to take hostages back to Gaza?

They are cowards. They have no honor.

That is what upsets me. Young fighters chasing down unarmed civilians, shooting old couples in the head, causing terror and carnage at the youth concert...

This doesn't surprise me. More reasons that Biden shouldn't have publicly announced his trip there to begin with. I have a feeling he's going to look like and sound like a complete idiot no matter what he does Wednesday. It'll be even worse if he trips and falls in front of everyone. It wouldn't surprise me if he double-crosses Israel.

This whole thing is becoming more and more of a diplomatic nightmare every minute.....
