Thank you Bruce. The quoted paragraph is the essential thing. “Recognizing” and "repenting”: an assessment of our whole being by Mind, and one by Heart. And both – because it concerns our “whole being”.

Two ideas related to this, and stated elsewhere.

The whole being includes, beyond Mind and Heart: Body. We need to treat ourselves with love, yes, but because of the very nature of love, more even the Other. Animals for instance. “I love my dog”, hence I love humans because they are animals. (The scriptural saying might better have been this one: “Be to yourself as you are to your neighbour.”)

That is supportive advice.

The other one is critical.

When I hear the sharpest wits and the most sincerely critical of my neighbours talk about what is wrong with the world, the words they use are: "ignorance", "morons”, "errors”, "mistakes, “wrong mindsets” etc.

I rarely hear: "blackened souls", "sins", "cruelty”, "indifference", "hatred", "temptation" etc.

That is the other side of the coin. People seem to have allowed "lack of love" into their hearts and moreover suppressed the realisation thereof through lack of love for themselves. (Racism, sick curiosity about torture and war gore... etc.)

Too much Socrates, not enough Jesus. (Although they claim otherwise.)
