US delegate to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, said that an Algerian draft resolution that was presented Sunday "will not be adopted,” hinting that Washington might use the veto to reject the draft.

AA reports citing US officials that the Algerian draft calls for an immediate cease-fire in Gaza for humanitarian purposes based on last month’s interim order by the International Court of Justice, which obliges Israel to take measures to prevent acts of genocide in the territory.

The Algerian draft resolution was withheld from presentation on Sunday as it lacked unanimous backing from United Nations Security Council (UNSC) members. The United States, a permanent member, voiced opposition and indicated a potential veto threat. Consequently, the resolution was not subjected to a vote, leaving the Gaza situation unresolved. Arab ambassadors to the UN are urged to proceed with presenting the Algerian draft resolution, despite US resistance, allowing the consequences to be borne by the US. The US has clearly stated its non-support for this draft resolution, signaling that if voted on as drafted, it will face non-adoption.

War on Gaza: Israeli police and Shin Bet 'disagree on Al-Aqsa restrictions' during Ramadan

Israel's police has proposed deploying security forces in Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem throughout the duration of Ramadan, according to a report in Israel's Arabic language network Makan.

The move during the holy month will be aimed at dealing with the waving of Hamas flags and incitement, the report stated. The police also recommended setting age restrictions and limiting the number of Palestinian worshippers allowed access into the mosque complex.

However, the proposal was reportedly opposed by Israel's security service, the Shin Bet, which recommended unrestricted access for Palestinian worshippers.

During discussions between various government agencies on the issue, security officials raised concerns that far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir would make decisions which could escalate tensions in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.

On Saturday, Ben Gvir called for a ban on Palestinians visiting al-Aqsa Mosque during Ramadan, which begins on 10 March.

The Israeli broadcaster Channel 12 reported that Ben Gvir is also pushing to ban Palestinian citizens of Israel below the age of 70 from entering the compound.

Efforts to halt Israel's four-month-old offensive on the Gaza Strip have been expressly complicated by Israel's plans to launch a military operation in Gaza's southernmost city of Rafah, where around 1.5 million people have sought refuge.

Prospects for a ceasefire before Ramadan further dimmed on Sunday, as mediator Qatar said that separate truce talks have hit an impasse, while the US said that it would veto a possible UN Security Council vote on a resolution next week.

In addition to the risk that restrictions on Al-Aqsa could spark unrest in the occupied West Bank - where Israel has stepped up its near daily raids since the start of the war on 7 October - an offensive on Rafah in the lead up to Ramadan could further inflame the situation.

At least 398 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces or settlers in the West Bank in the last four months, according to the Palestinian health ministry.

The last major Israeli offensive on Gaza was sparked by weeks of tension during Ramadan in May 2021, where hundreds of Palestinians were wounded as Israeli security forces carried out raids on Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Hamas had demanded that Israel withdraw its security forces from the complex, before launching some of its rockets from Gaza into Israel.

Israel then launched an 11-day offensive on the Gaza Strip, killing at least 260 people and causing widespread destruction in the besieged enclave.

Large fires continue to burn at the sites of the IOF targeting near Saida, Lebanon.

The two IOF strikes in the industrial area of Ghaziyeh targeted a warehouse belonging to a generator manufacturing plant and an iron manufacturing plant. Diesel fuel leaked from barrels in the targeted generator manufacturing warehouse, exacerbating the fires.

Local sources report about 8 minor injuries.

Many western media platforms are reporting that the British-owned bulk carrier Rubymar has been critically struck by Houthi missiles, and that the crew have abandoned ship.

One or two sites are reporting that the ship is taking on water and may sink, but this doesn't appear to have been confirmed. One such report is from this very mainstream global shipping news platform.

The naval forces of the Yemeni Armed Forces, with the help of God Almighty, carried out a qualitative military operation, targeting a British ship in the Gulf of Aden “RUBYMAR” with a number of appropriate naval missiles. Among the results of the operation were the following:

Just a note! One of those videos above can't be accurate — if the ship did indeed sink.

The first shows the ship going down stern first (and that looks like the real Rubymar, though the video is in bright daylight... when did this happen? It's midnight there now), while the second ("a different view", says the Tweet) shows a ship, which looks quite a bit smaller, going down bow first. I suggest the second is certainly a fake video of this incident, though it clearly shows a real ship sinking.

Lebanon: Israeli air strikes pummel area around port city of Sidon

Israeli air strikes rocked southern Lebanon near the port city of Sidon on Monday, with video footage showing flames and debris from one blast shooting up just metres away from a highway populated with civilian vehicles.

The Israeli military confirmed the strikes, saying they targeted arms storage facilities near Sidon in southern Lebanon in retaliation for a drone sent into Israel by Hezbollah, an Israeli military spokesperson announced on Monday.

"We located an unmanned aerial vehicle from Hezbollah near Tiberias, which apparently crossed today and crashed near Tiberias," Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari told a televised news briefing. "In response to this activity, we attacked weapons depots near Sidon."

The strikes mark one of Israel’s deepest forays yet into its Mediterranean neighbour's territory, as it exchanges near-daily fire with Iran-backed Hezbollah.

One video filmed from a balcony captured the scene with two mushroom cloud explosions billowing up from a civilian neighbourhood facing the Mediterranean Sea.

Since October, most of the fighting between Hezbollah and Israel has been confined to the area along Israel’s northern border with Lebanon, roughly 20 miles away from Sidon.

Monday’s strike on Ghaziyeh, which is home to a large fuel refinery and lies just five kilometres from Sidon city centre, underscored how fighting can quickly escalate.

Sidon and Palestinian resistance

While the strikes mark an escalation in the border war between Hezbollah and Israel, this is not the first time the area has been targeted.

Southern Lebanon is a stronghold of Hezbollah, and Amal, the other main Shia political party in Lebanon.

Since the 1960s, the region has been home to an array of Palestinian armed groups.

Israel bombed Ghaziyeh during the 2006 war, killing 26 civilians. In 2018, Israel was believed to be behind a botched car bombing that targeted Hamas official Mohamed Hamdan in Sidon.

Shortly before the war in Gaza erupted, the Ain el-Hilweh refugee camp near the southern coastal city of Sidon saw bloody clashes between fighters belonging to the Fatah movement and those from the Shabab al-Muslim (Muslim Youth) coalition.

Israel rewrites rules of engagement

US and European officials have been trying for months to broker an agreement between Israel and Hezbollah to end the fighting.

But former senior US officials tell MEE, having calculated that Hezbollah is unwilling to risk a wider war with Israel, the country is taking the opportunity to re-write the rules of engagement with Hezbollah that have governed past flare-ups between the two.

In January, Israel assassinated senior Hamas official Saleh al-Arouri in a Hezbollah stronghold in Beirut.

Last week, the Israeli military said it killed a Hezbollah commander, his deputy and another fighter, in a strike in the south Lebanon city of Nabatiyeh.

But Israel’s strikes have begun to take a deeper toll on civilians. Ten people, including six children, were killed by Israeli strikes on villages across southern Lebanon last week, according to the AFP.

On Friday, Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah vowed that Israel would pay "with blood" for civilians it killed in Lebanon in recent days, warning the group had missiles that could reach anywhere in Israel.

He warned that his Iran-backed movement has "precision-guided missiles that can reach... Eilat" on Israel's Red Sea coast, well beyond the northern towns it usually targets.

The latest uptick in violence has caused international alarm, with fears growing of another full-blown war between Israel and Hezbollah like that of 2006.

Since October, cross-border exchanges have killed at least 269 people on the Lebanese side, most of them Hezbollah fighters but also including 40 civilians, according to an AFP tally.

On the Israeli side, 10 soldiers and six civilians have been killed, according to the Israeli army.

US investigating claim that Houthis are behind downed drone off Yemen's coast: Report

The US is investigating a claim by Houthi rebels in Yemen that they shot down a US reaper drone on Monday, as tensions in the Red Sea escalate to new heights, according to US media reports.

The Iran-backed Houthis claimed they had downed a US MQ9-Reaper drone over the port city of Hodeida early on Monday morning, with the Pentagon confirming that a US drone had crashed.

“The Yemeni air defenses were able to shoot down an American plane (MQ9) with a suitable missile while it was carrying out hostile missions against our country on behalf of the Zionist entity,” Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea said on the social media platform, X.

On Monday, The New York Times and CNN reported that US officials are now investigating the Houthi claim. The Houthis last downed a Reaper drone in November, according to the Pentagon, and attempted to recover the $30m unmanned aerial vehicle.

The MQ9 Reaper drone is a workforce of US intelligence and surveillance but can also be armed with missiles, including a modified hellfire missile equipped with long blades used for targeted assassinations.

The Houthis have catapulted to global prominence for their daring attacks on commercial and military shipping, in what they say is a response to Israel’s invasion of Gaza.

One of their first acts in November was a brazen seizure by helicopter of the Galaxy leader, a Bahamas-flagged commercial vessel owned by Israeli business tycoon, Rami Ungar.

Since then, the Houthis have broadened their attacks from vessels linked to Israel to commercial and military ships with any ties to the US and UK, in response to US-led air strikes against the group.

On Saturday, the US said it launched five strikes against Houthi mobile anti-ship cruise missiles, an unmanned surface drone and one unmanned underwater drone.

The latter marks the first time the Houthis have employed an underwater drone, which naval analysts tell Middle East Eye suggests the Houthis have advanced their maritime capabilities.

US strikes against the Houthis have done little to deter the group, and western officials familiar with the matter have told MEE on condition of anonymity that they don’t expect the Houthis to change their actions in response to the strikes.

The Iran-backed group endured years of heavy bombardment by a coalition of Arab states led by Saudi Arabia. The Houthis weathered the strikes and displayed their ability to leverage Iranian training and arms to strike as far as Dubai.

Saudi Arabia is now trying to negotiate a ceasefire to the war that would cement the Houthis stranglehold over most populated parts of Yemen, including the capital Sanaa.

If the Houthis did down the Reaper drone, it would come just as they lay claim to one of their biggest maritime victories to date.

On Monday the crew of the Rubymar, a Belize-flagged, UK-registered and Lebanese-operated dry bulk carrier, was forced to abandon ship after a Houthis strike.

I am placing this specifically on this thread and it may seem unrelated. Bill, feel free to move this if you feel it is off topic or remove it, but I feel in many ways it is the core of the topic. I have not continued to follow details of the absolute atrocities that are being committed in this genocide but the evil is similar to any genocide, the difference is that that it is in many instances depersonalized in this instance through technology. I thoroughly researched the hideous genocide in Rwanda:

The Rwandan genocide, also known as the genocide against the Tutsi, occurred between 7 April and 15 July 1994 during the Rwandan Civil War. During this period of around 100 days, members of the Tutsi minority ethnic group, as well as some moderate Hutu and Twa, were killed by armed Hutu militias.

My interest was in understanding the potential of humans committing in mass absolute atrocities. In Rwanda, the "citizens" who were successfully programmed to feel victimized by the Tutsi's machetes, somehow felt that they were justified in the slaughter, rape and torture of Tutsi's because that was the program. The program of promoting victim groups seems to be very effective. In fact, they are attempting to create the same scenario in the US, at this very moment.

Now it appears that many of these atrocities can be performed remotely. While sitting in an armed vehicle, relatively safe from harm one can remotely shoot a citizen very similar to a video game. In the video I watch, this was justified for possibly throwing a rock, possibly. I can imagine what is happening to the "missing" women and children.

This leads me to to come to this most interesting "performance art" I have ever seen. It involves Marina Abromovic, and I am well aware that the woman has allegedly done some horrific things. That does not change the fact that she did a most revealing experiment which she called performance art. In reality it was one of the most interesting and surprising experiments on human behavior that I know of.

In 1974 her performance was called Rhythm 0. The finale of a series of tests she had done involving the public.

A brief description of the performance: she stood for 6 hours in a gallery in New York. She had a long table with a number of items ranging from a feather, grapes, and other harmless items, to chains, a saw, a razor blade, even a gun with one bullet placed next to it and other items that could definitely harm. She clearly stated that the audience could do whatever they wanted to her without consequences. She endured standing/lying there for 6 hours.What was to follow was beyond disturbing.

I issue a strong warning here, it is very disturbing. I found this as part of a video that was about strange performance art. I would not have seeked it out, or watched if I knew what it was but it is very, very revealing. Although this woman has allegedly done some vile things, I will give her credit for standing there and not responding to what was done to her, simply because they could, with the exception of tears streaming down her face. Remember, if you decide to watch this, these were people who came to see "performance art" in a upscale gallery in New York. A varied group of art patrons. Also note, the behavior when she attempted to talk with the audience after the "performance" once she was humanized again. So another element of genocide is to depersonalize the "enemy".

Many seemingly normal humans have a very dark shadow self. I asked myself and tried to be as honest with myself as I possibly could would I do something evil to someone just because I could, and I truly feel the answer is no. My dark side tendency is towards self destruction. So I have the potential, but it is directed to myself.

New Israeli remote-controlled weapon tested on civilians

Israeli forces tested a new remote-controlled weapon on a Palestinian civilian.
The new weapon will be used against people who throw stones, which allows them to break a person’s legs from within the safety of a vehicle.
