Great Eared Nightjar - Interesting (prehistoric looking) bird, also known as the dragon bird.

'The great eared nightjar (Lyncornis macrotis) is a species of nightjar in the family Caprimulgidae. It is found in southwest India and in parts of Southeast Asia. This very large nightjar has long barred wings, a barred tail and long ear-tufts which are often recumbent. It has a white throat band but has no white on its wings or on its tail.'

We have had to keep him in his cage more recently while downtown as he has been going to the floor, which is dangerous... But he is still happy and gets out when no one is around! And good news... A new sparrow family moved into the nest that his family had occupied before the crows ate them... So Jack has some new friends to talk to every day!

At a petting zoo's female Emu had 3 eggs but their male Emu didn't start incubating on the nest (yes, with Emu's, the male does the incubating and the raising of the chicks). So they reached out to me and asked if I wanted to give these eggs a chance. By now they were quite old so I wasn't sure if they would hatch."

Had to wonder whether the handling of the eggs caused dizziness inside . . .

Crocodilians today are seen as quite a stable group evolutionary, not having changed too much overall since the time of the dinosaurs. This statement though does have some issues, not just in how it often glosses over how diverse the group is today, but also as to how different many of their relatives were in the past.

There are a ton of these animals to discuss, so I’ll be covering a ton more at a later date, but for the moment, I feel the need to discuss one of the most interesting of them all, being the fairly recently described Brachiosuchus, an animal that nearly went under the radar. I hope you enjoy.“

Just a helpful added note! When I first saw the post, I was concerned that the rats were being used to detonate the landmines, killing themselves in the process each time. But I watched the video — which is fascinating — and it specifically explained that their light weight did NOT detonate the mines. It was their strong sense of smell that sought them out.

Why Does a Cat Purr?

The answer seems obvious enough. A purring cat is a contented cat. This surely must be true.

But it is not. Repeated observation has revealed that cats in great pain, injured, in labor, and even dying often purr loud and long (this I have experienced several times). These can hardly be called contented cats. It is true, of course, that contented cats do also purr, but contentment is by no means the sole condition for purring. A more precise explanation, which fits all cases, is that purring signals a friendly social mood, and it can be given as a signal to, say, a vet from an injured cat indicating the need for friendship, or as a signal to an owner, saying thank you for friendship given.

Purring first occurs when kittens are only a week old and its primary use is when they are being suckled by their mother. It acts as a signal to her that all is well and that the milk supply is successfully reaching its destination. She can lie there, listening to the grateful purrs, and know without looking up that nothing has gone amiss. She in turn purrs to her kittens as they feed, telling them that she too is in a relaxed, cooperative mood. The use of purring among adult cats (and between adult cats and humans) is almost certainly secondary and is derived from this primal parent-offspring context.

An important distinction between small cats, like our domestic species. and the big cats, like lions and tigers, is that the latter cannot purr properly. The tiger will greet you with a friendly "one-way purr" -- a sort of splutter -- but it cannot produce the two-way purr of the domestic cat, which makes its whirring noise not only with each outward breath (like the tiger), but also with each inward breath. The exhalation-inhalation rhythm of feline purring can be performed with the mouth firmly shut (or full of nipple), and may be continued effortlessly for hours on end if the conditions are right. In this respect small cats are one up on their giant relatives, but the big cats have another feature that compensates for it -- they can roar, which is something small cats can never do."

The purring cat reminds me of what Drunvalo wrote in The Ancient Secret of the Flower of Life. A race called the Hathor who have attained Christ consciousness use a circular breathing method for healing. The aborigines use a similar method when playing the didgeridoo.

Crows know how to fight. They attack larger animals in groups. They harass and worry their enemy into acting rashly. They are strategic, tactical, and calculating.

Crows are communal. They will aid other crows and direct them to foods. They enforce discipline within their groups. It is no accident that a group of crows is called a 'murder'. This is b/c they will execute their own when they transgress.

Let a human befriend one crow, and all crows are bonded to them.

Crows are a People.

The Salish also say that only those humans respected by Crow, may appeal to Raven for guidance.

Raven is the Wise Trickster. Raven is the pivot point upon which Wisdom balances with Folly. Universe provides Raven as commentary on Risk and Personal Growth for Humanity. When you entreaty Raven for guidance, you gain Wisdom by interpreting the answer.
