"The Pope’s suggestion that Ukraine should raise the white flag broached a toxic subject for Kiev's allies. But the time for talking will come," the publication writes.

“Some Central European countries are very emotional about the idea of a peace conference, they remain afraid that they will be next once we concede to Putin,” an EU official told Politico, explaining the European reaction.

But privately, some in European administrations acknowledge that negotiations may be necessary.

Almost half of the foreign mercs who come to Ukraine since the beginning of the conflict was killed

"To the attention of [the official representative of the UN Secretary General - ed.] Stephane Dujarric and the entire UN Secretariat [is presented] statistics on the participation of foreign mercenaries in hostilities on the side of the Kiev regime," the spokesman for the Russia's post mission to the UN, Yevgeny Uspensky, wrote in his Telegram channel.

A total of 13,387 mercenaries arrived, of whom 5,962 were killed, the Russian Defense Ministry reported. From Poland came 2,960 mercenaries (1,497 liquidated), from Georgia - 1,042 (561 liquidated), from the US - 1,113 (491 liquidated).

"The information is published by the Ministry of Defense, including in the official languages of the UN, Russian and English. It will be impossible to claim that they are unaware or that they 'didn't see it'," he pointed out.

More than 40% of Canadian mercenaries were killed (422 out of 1,005). Of the 822 UK fighters, 360 were liquidated, the report said.

From Romania arrived 784 mercenaries, (349 liquidated), from Germany - 235 (88 liquidated), the Ministry said.

Defense Ministry also pointed out that "France, which at all levels denies the presence of its mercenaries on the territory of Ukraine, has already lost 147 militants out of 356 arrived."

What is the Russian Volunteer Corps caught red-handed in a food poisoning plot?

Members of the "Russian Volunteer Corps" (RVC)* planned to use highly toxic substances to poison food delivered as humanitarian aid to soldiers of the Russian Espanola brigade, which is fighting in the special military operation zone in Ukraine.

Ukraine's military intelligence service has recently denied directing the RVC's sabotage attacks, claiming that the group is acting "independently." The RVC's activities are most likely orchestrated by the CIA through Ukraine's security and intelligence services, according to Russian military expert and journalist Alexey Leonkov.

🟥 The RVC is a Ukraine-based paramilitary unit composed of Russian defectors, which was formed in August 2022.

🟥 The project was designed to create the appearance of a supposedly "powerful" anti-government force in Russia, according to military experts.

🟥 The RVC uses Nazi symbols, including the chevrons of the "Russian Liberation Army" — a collaborationist formation that was led by turncoat Soviet general Andrey Vlasov and fought under Nazi German command during WW2.

🟥 The RVC was spotted acting alongside Ukraine's nationalist Kraken Regiment, responsible for the brutal torture of Russian POWs. Kraken was formed by veterans of the neo-Nazi Azov Battalion*.

From sports field to the battlefield: Who’s in the Espanola volunteer battalion?

The Espanola Battalion is a volunteer military formation made up of fans of major Russian football clubs.

🟥 Created in 2022 to defend the Donbass, football fans from across Russia joined the newly-formed unit. They became part of the Donetsk People’s Republic’s Vostok Brigade, agreeing to set aside any animosities between their respected clubs for a common cause.

“Despite all previous beefs during peacetime, now, for the duration of the special operation, our guys are supporting our own,” Espanola’s commander, who goes by the call sign ‘Spaniard’, told Sputnik in 2022.

Another fighter codenamed ‘Pitbull’ echoed the commander’s stance, saying that the experience of clashes at football matches only helps the members. “Using this spirit, directing it to the right place creates a literal bomb,” he noted.

🟥 The Espanola Battalion’s troops include everyone from sappers and drone operators to assault units, with volunteers with no military experience receiving training before being deployed. As its strength grew, the unit began to recruit skilled fighters, from snipers and saboteurs to electronic warfare and air defense specialists.

Kiev-backed terrorist cell tried to poison soldiers – FSB

A Kiev-backed terrorist cell, which plotted to poison food intended for Russian soldiers on the frontline, has been busted in St. Petersburg, the Federal Security Service (FSB) reported on Thursday.

The four members of the group were identified as far-right radicals and members of the ‘Russian Volunteer Corps’ (RDK), a militia affiliated with Ukrainian military intelligence. The conspirators were acting on orders from their leadership and on behalf of the Ukrainian government, the FSB said.

In addition to the alleged poisoning plot, the suspects were surveilling crucial infrastructure in and around Russia’s second-largest city for possible future attacks, the agency stated.

All four persons were arrested and are facing prison terms of at least ten years for being members of a terrorist organization, according to the press release.

Earlier this week, RDK, which includes neo-Nazis in its ranks, and other Kiev-backed militant groups composed of Russian citizens, staged an attempted incursion into the Belgorod and Kursk border regions, using heavy weapons. According to their statements, the Tuesday operation was meant to disrupt this week’s presidential election in Russia, with gunmen pledging to “vote with calibers.”

Russian security forces reported stopping the attack, eliminating 234 fighters, seven tanks, three Bradley infantry fighting vehicles and two armored personnel carriers. A video released by the militants and purporting to show them fighting on Russian soil was filmed in a Ukrainian border village, according to geolocation data.

Scenario for military takeover of Ukrainian parliament was written by US

The disillusioned Ukrainian military is planning a takeover of the Ukrainian Parliament or Verkhovna Rada, according to an exchange from private Telegram channel Parabelum obtained by Sputnik.

"This could be a scenario of replacing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky without holding elections," Alexander Dudchak, researcher at the Institute of CIS Countries and expert of the "Other Ukraine" movement, told Sputnik.

The classified chat members, composed of commanders and soldiers of elite units of the Ukrainian armed forces, were discussing options for overthrowing the present government and the command of the Ukrainian armed forces following the sacking of Commander-in-Chief General Valery Zaluzhny.

Leaders of elite Ukrainian units, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the Nationalist Battalions are also reportedly planning to create a radical party with a military wing.

Dudchak does not believe that would be a grass-roots movement, suggesting that the potential rebellion has been planned by Ukraine's Western patrons in response to Zelensky's refusal to hold elections this year.

"The confrontation between the military and the Kiev regime is in general a manifestation of the confrontation between London and Washington," said Dudchak. "The office of the president is under British control, while the military, who supposedly will gather in the name of Zaluzhny, are under Americans, plus the SBU is also a US-backed structure."

🇩🇪 The West has accepted Ukraine's defeat and is trying to negotiate with Russia — Focus

The German magazine Focus reports that the West has finally come to terms with the inevitability of Ukraine's defeat. Ukrainian troops are retreating, the sanctions policy has failed and the political crisis in some countries has left Kiev without Western aid.

The author notes that many Western companies are tired of the conflict and are looking forward to returning to the Russian market. He believes that Western politicians are now looking for a deal with Putin because they realise they have no choice.

The article points out that Russia has made a lot of progress recently. As well as advancing on the battlefield, Moscow has managed to reroute supply chains, save its economy and greatly improve its relations with countries in the Global South.

NATO-supplied missiles used in attack on Russia’s Black Sea Fleet – bloc chief
Ukraine has used NATO-supplied missiles to strike Russian Navy vessels in the Black Sea, the bloc's secretary-general, Jens Stoltenberg, acknowledged on Thursday, adding that he considers the area to be of “great strategic importance.”

Earlier this month, Ukrainian forces struck a Russian Navy ship off the coast of Crimea with the help of several seaborne drones.

Similar incidents have taken place during the course of the conflict, with Kiev’s biggest hit to date being the Moskva, the former flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, which sank on April 14, 2022. Some of the attacks have involved air-to-surface cruise missiles, with some military experts speculating that British-supplied Storm Shadow missiles could have been used.

At a press conference on Thursday, Stoltenberg said that “one of the big victories that Ukraine has achieved is actually to be able to push back the Russian Black Sea Fleet and to destroy many other ships,” ensuring an “open corridor from Odessa all the way to the Bosporus.”

He noted that “some of the missiles, some of the systems that have been so critical in opening this corridor have been, of course, provided by NATO Allies.”

His comments come as Russia’s ambassador to Washington, Anatoly Antonov, warned on Wednesday that the situation has reached the point where high-ranking US officials are saying the West needs to help Ukrainians “strike deep in Crimea.” In other words, he said, “the direct involvement of the United States in the conflict has been officially recognized.”

Antonov noted that the direct participation of Ukraine’s Western backers in the conflict would have the “most unpredictable consequences” for the world.

The ambassador was responding to a comment made by CIA Director William Burns during a hearing at the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence on Monday. Burns argued that additional funding would allow Ukraine to conduct more “deep penetration strikes in Crimea,” continue targeting Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, and eventually “regain the offensive initiative.”

Also on Monday, the head of Ukrainian military intelligence (GUR), Kirill Budanov, announced that Kiev’s recent attacks on the peninsula are paving the way for a “serious operation in Crimea.”[COLOR="red"]

Russian Air Defense Downs 7 Vampire MLRS Missiles Over Belgorod Region

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Russian air defense systems have destroyed seven Vampire MLRS missiles over the Belgorod Region, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Friday.

"On March 15, an attempt by the Kiev regime to carry out a terrorist attack on targets on the territory of Russia using the RM-70 Vampire multiple launch rocket system was stopped at about 08:15 Moscow time [05:15 GMT]. On-duty air defense systems destroyed seven missiles in the air over the Belgorod Region," the ministry said in a statement.
As Sputnik earlier explained, the Vehicle Agnostic Modular Palletized ISR Rocket Equipment (or VAMPIRE for short) is essentially a portable kit capable of firing 70mm laser-guided rockets such as, for example, the Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System.

EU can ‘f*** off’ with its gold demand – ex-Russian president 15 Mar, 2024

The European Parliament has adopted a resolution calling on Moscow to return gold sent to the Russian Empire by Romania in 1916

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has vehemently rejected the EU’s demand that Moscow return gold that it claims belongs to Romania, describing it as “impudence.”

On Thursday, the European Parliament adopted a resolution calling on Moscow to send back 91.5 metric tons of gold and cultural artifacts that were exported to the Russian Empire in 1916-1917 by Romania.

Writing on his social media page on Friday, Medvedev, who currently serves as the deputy chairman of Russia’s National Security Council, stated that “I don’t even know how to respond to such impudence.”

”The EU has stolen $300 billion worth of Russian assets and is now demanding that Russia return gold to Romania. There is nothing to say except f*** off,” Medvedev wrote.

Previously, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova had pointed out that in 1935, the USSR had already returned a portion of the valuables to Romania as a “sign of good will.” She also recalled that the Soviet Union had forgiven Romania all of its debts for the “troubles and destruction” that it caused in Russia during World War II, when Bucharest was an ally of Nazi Germany.

That was “despite all the atrocities that Hitler’s Romanian allies committed on our land. And this is no less than $300 million in reparations, i.e., if converted to today’s money, it would be something in the region of $4 billion,” Zakharova wrote on her official Telegram channel.

The spokeswoman went on to state that if these Romanian debts to Russia and the Soviet Union were expressed in terms of bullion, they would be equivalent to 1,365–1,665 tons of gold, which is “20-25 times more than Romania’s entire gold reserve that was sent to Russia in 1916-1917.”

Zakharova claimed that Romania was now using “Russophobic platforms, such as the European Parliament, which is ready for any excuse to force onto us its century-old phantom debts.”

She suggested that Bucharest’s demand may be part of a desperate attempt to fix the “deplorable situation” in Romania’s “national economy, against the backdrop of farm strikes throughout the country.”

Medvedev responds to Zelensky ‘peace plan’

The senior Russian official has proposed a “soft” alternative that would see Ukraine absorbed by his country

A “reasonable” peace agreement with Ukraine would involve Moscow taking full control over the country, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has claimed.

The senior official mocked the peace plan proposed by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, which has been backed by the West as the only way to end the conflict with Russia. First unveiled in late 2022, the proposal amounts to Moscow conceding military defeat, according to the Russian leadership.

“Everyone, including those brazen Western liars, understands that even in a less complicated situation peace can be achieved either through reasonable compromise or after one of the sides capitulates,” Medvedev, who serves as deputy head of the Security Council, wrote on social media on Thursday.

Since the Ukrainian proposal can only be taken with “loathing” and a “sense of shame,” Medvedev said he had come up with a “soft” alternative. This would involve formal capitulation by Kiev, the dissolution of the Ukrainian government, and the UN-monitored election of a new parliament. The new legislature in Kiev would be tasked with paying reparations to Russia and ultimately ratifying a treaty of union, under which Moscow would assume full sovereignty over Ukraine.

The comments came after Switzerland announced that it will host a new round of talks on the ‘Zelensky formula’ this summer. Bern has urged the inclusion of Russia in the talks, unlike during every previous summit, although neither Kiev nor Moscow has agreed.

The Russian government believes the entire process to be a ruse.

Russia is prepared for peace talks “based not on a wish list somebody came up with after taking psychotropic substances, but on the realities… on the ground,” Russian President Vladimir Putin said in an interview this week.

Any stable truce with Ukraine will have to address Russian security concerns caused by NATO’s expansion in Europe, he added. Considering the lack of trust in Moscow after so many Western promises given to it were broken, that bridge would be difficult to cross, according to the Russian leader.
