    Made me laugh. Yes!

But there really may be some coming problems, particularly unrest in large cities (especially in the US, of course), and there may well be shortages of food and other essentials.

Like many others, I have a distinct Spidey Sense of something much more major than might happen sometime before the end of the year, and maybe before the US election. If I'm quite wrong, I'll be delighted.

Even here in Ecuador where there are no shortages of anything, and civil unrest seems unlikely, I topped up on basic, inexpensive longlife food supplies just a couple days ago. Things I'd use anyway in the end: rice, oats, various kinds of flour, beans, pasta, oil, salt, sugar, all that simple stuff. It cost very little, and just seemed smart.

I never really resonated with the survivalist mode. Maybe I'm in a different path or just ignorant. We'll find out soon. But I too feel that covid is just a precursor. Actually, not even that. It's just a link in the chain.

It should becoming obvious by now that since last year, probably around the Amazon fires (?), there is a line of global events with a short time distance between them. From the Hong Kong uprising and the Australian fires to covid, BLM, Lebanon etc.. Humanity and the planet have entered in an accelerated orbit of evolution and covid is just one event in this chain.

Bill's intuition feels on spot about something bigger coming. This is no fear mongering. All these events release tension that has been suppressed for ages. They'll push humanity to the next level even if that means going through labour pain.

Never a bad idea to plan ahead...

The President and his daughter Ivanka have been using their social-media accounts to advertise canned beans. On Twitter, she posed with a can of Goya black beans in her right hand, her left hand held as though cradling an imaginary cloud beneath the product. On Instagram, he sat at the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office, stars, stripes, and gold velvet curtains behind him, and Goya products arrayed in front of him. He held both thumbs up. In between attacking Joe Biden and the Times and touting his success at fighting the MS-13 gang, Trump tweeted, “.@GoyaFoods is doing GREAT. The Radical Left smear machine backfired, people are buying like crazy!” The First Family is fighting back against calls for a boycott of Goya after the company’s C.E.O., Robert Unanue, praised the President during a White House event last week.

“This one’s got everything: the Trump family, using official office to promote a private business, rewarding political allies with business help from the White House,” Noah Bookbinder, the executive director of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, a watchdog group, tweeted. “So much corruption in one post, and likely a violation of ethics rules.” (According to the Department of Justice, “An employee’s position or title should not be used to coerce; to endorse any product, service or enterprise; or to give the appearance of governmental sanction.”) But corruption may not be the best term to describe this spectacle. The word implies something illicit, hidden from the public; the remedy for “corruption,” in political discourse, is usually “transparency.” The Trumps are, without a doubt, corrupting the Presidency in the sense that they are changing it beyond recognition, but they are doing it in plain view.

On the face of it, the shilling for beans is trolling. Like Trump’s lies, it’s a demonstration of power—he is saying, in effect, No matter how absurd, how blatantly false, how clearly spiteful and meaningless my statement or picture or post might be, you have no choice but to engage with it, because I am the President. Here, he wins every time: we do engage with his latest outrage, because ignoring it is the worse option.

As abuse of power goes, though, advertising Goya is almost negligible: smaller than the Ukraine scandal, or making pandemic aid to states conditional on loyalty and gratitude to the President, or threatening to withhold funding to school districts that do not reopen for in-person instruction. We’ve learned to move past Trump’s use of the Presidency as a protection racket and extortion machine—and we’ll move past Goya, too. But where will that take us?

We are being screwed big time.

I knew it when this covid thing started. you and me will be forced to comply with vaccines and if you do not comply, there will be dire results for you.

Look at how people are told to wear mask, and how quick they just do it. No questions, no resisting just put the mask on and life is good.

I sound dire for sure, I do not want anyone to panic, but this is not good. We have to wake up and say NO. Otherwise , good luck.

... agreed, I feel it too.. I just wanted to point out that there is plenty of effective resistance happening! ... there is real hope and solid reasoning to remain positive!

also remember the words of AJ ... you are the resistance!

You can't get into a store without a mask. The corporations, as much as the politicians, are pushing the masks. It's a lot to expect someone to get fired over masks during a recession.

Agree. I stopped reading this 'guide' when he already wrote in the first paragraphs (quote) 'But getting back to the good news – you could be among the 10% who survive this, ...'

I used to read his NN site daily and still browse it today for some 'better' articles. In March/April of this year he was fully on the fear porn bandwaggon going on daily with an exaggerated death count in the headline section, and thus giving the impression that there are people literally dropping dead from the virus in the streets on an hourly basis. I felt disgusted. He had a complete loss of reality.

And of course since he also sells lots of survival and prepper stuff (including masks!) as his business model ... this makes one suspicious even more, right?

It's ambivalent for me. He has done and is doing a lot of good, so this was really hard for me seeing him act this way. I almost thought he would go entirely pro-covid-vaccine at that point.

Luckily he came somehow a bit back to his senses. I think he almost flip-flopped by now being anti-mask/-lockdown/-vaccine again.

I am ready to forgive but there is a bad aftertaste still lingering in my mouth about this. And this guide seems part of it. He is always deliberately fully 100% pessimistic.

Ironically he is behaving exactly like the mainstream media, the elites and their puppet-politicians: FEAR SELLS.

We need realism, yes, since there is a lot of more trouble ahead but this kind of doom porn pessimism is not helpful imv.

I became sceptical about his judgement in 2013 when he started bashing bitcoin.

Ok, I get that it isn't for everybody and there are legitimate reasons why people might be critical, e.g. fully electronic asset etc. However he was just in all out "scam/honeypot" mode and I really didn't agree with his arguments & thought they were technically unsound. I just thought he must either be stupid or have his own agenda.

It was April 2013 and bitcoin was in "bubble" territory after ramping up to the heady height of $266 or something.

That was 7 years ago and it's currently sitting comfortably at a cool $11,600 so he didn't exactly do his audience much of a favour. I also wondered what he thought gave him such authority to pronounce so much on finance when he's meant to be a health-themed commentator.

What Mike speaks is for Americans, the world outside US is a very different world. I mean culturally speaking people has different ways to deal with problems, for instance in America everybody gets load up with ammo and it is all cool, right? Nope, not for me and many others, here where I live fire arm is forbidden, need a permit, I went to the shooting range a good while ago and got informed about the proceedings, you won't be allowed for example to carry AR15 or any big gun around, there is restrictions even for the ones used for sport/hunt, I think not even 12 gauge is allowed to use in public in case of self defense (), as far as I heard is only pistols, short barrelled guns (semi only), rifles .22/.17 .. so not as easy as he speaks.... I personally prefer swords or knives for self defense (tanto, ninjato, or a full blown katana).

In last case scenario (system failure) there will be madness and I don't want to spend my time shooting zombies, not at all. I just think in terms of regular prepping you don't need all that "paraphernalia" Mike talk about, he really goes insane sometimes, in the end if you go mobile for whatever reason, nothing of that paraphernalia will be of use, he speaks for those who identify with the idea of build a fortress and sit on it to protect...
