There's been some enormous flooding in both Northern Italy and Switzerland, ongoing ever since a couple of weeks ago. I saw a number of videos in French, but this one from the UK's Sun isn't exaggerated or over-dramatized.

Anybody not in Hurricane Beryl’s path, if you need a wild-weather fix, here is a livestream. Started abt half an hour ago, and he just said landfall is expected in abt an hour from now (which works out to ~0300 Eastern Time, =~0700 Zulu/UTC, and ~0200 in Texas’ eastern side which is Central Time).

OP is driving, as is normal, not sure what his plan is. Some pretty horizontal rain, so far. I found his chan ~a month ago, he uploads a lot but I’ve not clicked many of his vids.

California is one of the western states dealing with a historic heat wave as at least 21 wildfires burn, forcing evacuations in parts of the state. Multiple heat records were broken over the weekend. Death Valley, one of the hottest places on Earth, hit 129 degrees on Sunday, tying the 2007 record.

There's been almost no measurable rain in this part of Ecuador in 68 (sixty-eight) days.

The power grid, which is dependent on hydro, is holding up. But the farmers are suffering. There's no end in sight, though the rainy season should begin in January. (On the equator here we have two seasons, not four.)

The problem is El Niño transitioning to La Niña, a geophysical phenomenon in the Pacific that's currently affecting climate worldwide.

These are not wheat fields. This is all pasture for cows, and the grass is meant to be green.



This shallow lake in the mountains, quite a large one, is now completely dry.



And here's a smaller one, which had no chance of survival. Mara, my dog, always used to swim here.



A dried up river, though the large lake that feeds it is still there. But the level has dropped till it's way below the outflow of the river.



Taken back in January, this is a rather dramatic video of a waterfall which a regular feature of our mountain hikes. That day it was far too dangerous to try to cross.

It's now reduced to a tiny trickle (with just enough water in the pool for Mara to cool down!). It's not dried up totally yet, though it may do soon.



But I should close with a happy picture.

One or two members have written to ask if Mara was still fine, as I'd not shared any photos recently. Yes, she's in great shape, always happy to be in the mountains though she's 100% blind and can't see a thing. This is where we were just a few days ago... and the large lake behind her will never dry up.

Mara is looking so good and right at home swimming in the clear water. I am glad there is water in the lake available for the wildlife to drink from, but I do hope gentle rains come soon for for the plants and farmers and to keep the hydro power on for everyone.

Here in Europe, a completely different picture - until two weeks ago it was also dry and there was no rain for months. The air was 40°C, and the sea temperature was 30°C - It was like a soup!
Then a change came and it was drastic - the temperature dropped by 30°C (currently it has been 10 degrees for days), rain falls non-stop, floods in Poland, Austria the Czech Republic... several people lost their lives. In addition to people, swallows also suffered - they did not have time to migrate to the south, because this kind of weather is not at all normal for September, summer is still going on and the swallows should have been here by mid-October.

Thousands of swallows and swifts have died in Austria due to constant rain and lack of food. Animal rights activists call on local residents to rescue the weakened birds and ask for donations to feed them. "This hurricane season is shaping up to be one of the most intense of recent years with many powerful storms that displayed rapid formation, fast intensification, and incredible amounts of damage due to heavy rain and floods. Here's a summary of the most significant storms on September:

Hurricane Francine rapidly intensified into a Category 2 hurricane with sustained winds of 100 mph (155 km/h), making landfall in southern Louisiana, torrential rains and severe flooding caused widespread damage, submerging homes and infrastructure, and resulting in $1.5 billion in damages. Fortunately, there were no fatalities.

Storm Boris reached wind speeds of 75 mph (120 km/h) and rainfall of up to 14 inches (360 mm) in some areas of Central and Eastern Europe, causing the Elbe and Danube rivers to overflow, submerging entire communities, collapsing bridges, damaging homes, and sweeping away cars. The floods caused at least 19 deaths and significant economic losses, making it one of the worst flooding events in the region in decades.

Hurricane John made landfall in southwestern Mexico as a powerful Category 3 hurricane, with sustained winds of 120 mph (195 km/h). Up to 20 inches of rain caused severe flooding and widespread devastation, submerging homes and infrastructure. The storm resulted in at least 22 deaths and affected approximately 730,000 families. The impact on infrastructure and tourism was significant, making it one of the most destructive hurricanes to hit the region in recent years, along with Hurricane Ottis, which hit the same area last year.

Typhoon Yagi became the most powerful and destructive storm to hit East and Southeast Asia in recent years. The storm reached winds of 260 km/h (160 mph), and torrential rain, floods, and high winds caused widespread devastation, resulting in more than 830 deaths, 2,270 injuries, and 131 missing. The impact of the storm was particularly severe in Vietnam and Myanmar, where it caused significant and widespread damage to infrastructure and farmland, including roads, telecommunications, and power networks.

Hurricane Helene made landfall near Horseshoe Beach, Florida with sustained winds of 120 mph (195 km/h), and bringing catastrophic torrential rainfall to the southeastern United States. The storm surge caused extensive coastal flooding, while the heavy rains triggered historic inland flooding, particularly in the southern Appalachians. At least 230 fatalities across Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.

The devastation in North Carolina is unprecedented, with estimates of more than 1,000 deaths and hundreds of people still missing. The Rocky Broad River overflowed, causing significant debris and damage to towns such as Chimney Rock and Lake Lure. The state's infrastructure suffered immense damage, with hundreds of roads rendered inaccessible. The flooding was so severe that in some areas, water levels were reported to have reached the roofs of homes.

The economic losses were substantial, with billions of dollars in damages and long-term recovery efforts required. Many residents were left without power, clean water, or communication. Emergency services are still struggling to reach the affected areas, while the police and military are not allowing or limiting help from neighboring states and local counties.

And FEMA? Well, they're out of money to help the continuous waves of illegal aliens, while the Biden-Kamala administration offered the dashing amount of $750 per person in the most affected areas... and nice thoughts and prayers, as they need all the money they can get to fund their criminal partners in Ukraine and Israel.

How bad does it have to get for people to fully realize that the psychopaths in the US government, and well, most Western governments for that matter, don't give a damn about our collective well-being, and even our lives? There are plenty of obvious examples right now.

If most of us realized this and did something about it, things would change pretty quickly, but at least right now it seems that most of us still need a stronger shock to wake up and smell the coffee.

While the pathocracy creates more chaos out there, and most people are unable to respond fittingly to it, nature responds... and things are not looking pretty. But, well, lights are also starting to shine here and there, in NC we see people doing everything they can to help each other in hard times, no matter what their corrupt government says. Hopefully this will become a trend."

I was in Hun Hin earlier today and went to the beach for a walk and what I saw was a super high tide and lots and lots of dead fish among many other crustaceous, I am not sure why it happened but the water was dark, nobody was swimming and there was a warning in red written in Thai, probably something to not get in the water.

I just made a quick search but could not find much about it, however I found this article from 2017 which is exactly the same thing I saw today.

Some sections of the beach could not walk, was too bad, most small fishes, sea plants and lots of garbage, it started to smell bad, first sunny day it will rot away, beach isn't good for anything and lots of people on holiday was there in their swimsuits but nobody in the water.

basically walking in detritus.
