I understand how destructive stupid bad-attitude meme wars can be ( as with stupid bad-attitude social behavior ) but I strenuously defend the meme as being the most effective weapon we have in this global mind war, when it's coming from the right place inside us and so delivered to the right place inside the viewer.
I'm quoting an old post of my own in the "Democracy is done, stick a fork in it" thread to illustrate exactly why I value Memes so highly.

People fondly hang on to the idea of democracy because the word still subtly says individuality drives the collective.
Voting and the people being put up to vote for is so corrupt that it's a very long way down the list of effective individual influences on the collective.
How we choose the items and services we consume is higher on that list than voting, but even that runs into the Blackrock phenomenon in the end. They just about own every option.
Meme sharing seems to me to be where the action is now, mostly.
