    Text:
BREAKING: AlQuds Newspaper publishes the will of martyr Yahya Sinwar to the fighters, with details written in his own handwriting regarding the captives:

    • “Then either [confer] favor afterward or ransom [them].” – Verse 4 of Surah Muhammad.
    • “Visit the sick, feed the hungry, and free the captive.” – Hadith.
    • “What is necessary for fulfilling an obligation becomes obligatory.” – A fundamental principle.

AlQuds Newspaper obtained three handwritten documents from Yahya Sinwar, head of the political bureau of Hamas, containing instructions for the movement’s fighters on securing the Israeli captives, a list of eleven captives, and scattered numbers regarding their age, gender, and status.

The first document, written on Al-Arqam Printing Company letterhead, begins with Verse 4 of Surah Muhammad, which reads: “Then, when you have overcome them, either [confer] favor afterward or ransom [them]…” This means, according to interpretation, that after capturing enemies, one can either release them without compensation or ransom them in exchange for something valuable.

Sinwar followed this with the Hadith: “Visit the sick, feed the hungry, and free the captive,” where “captive” refers to prisoners of war.

He urged Hamas fighters to “ensure the safety of enemy captives, as they are a valuable bargaining chip in our hands,” referring to the principle that “what is necessary for fulfilling an obligation becomes obligatory.” He explained that freeing Palestinian prisoners can only be achieved by safeguarding enemy captives.

The second document provides statistics on the number of Israeli captives, with some details about their age, military or civilian status, and gender.

The first section, without specifying a location, states:

    •5 men over 60.
    •10 men under 60.
    •3 soldiers.
•3 women under 40 (marked with an “X,” indicating they were removed).
    •4 women over 40.
    Total: 25-3 = 22.

    Location X:

    •6 in military uniforms.
•12 reserves, the oldest being 53.
•7 young individuals not counted (aged 21-27).
    Total: 25.

    Location X:

    •2 men over 60 and 70.
•4 Bedouins (55 years old, and his son aged 18-22).
    Total: 51.

    Location X:

•7 soldiers and female soldiers (6 male + 1 female).
    •3 reserve soldiers.
    •4 young individuals.
•1 elderly person (66 years old).
    •1 Arab Bedouin.
Total: 14 (though the numbers sum to 16, not 14).

The third document includes a list of female captives, mostly elderly:

1.Nili Eliyahu Margalit, female, 41, nurse.
    2.Tamar Shalom Metzger, female, 78.
3.Raymond Nahum Kirsch, female, 36, ill.
4.Elena Yulian Turbanov, female, 50, Russian.
    5.Nuralyn Babdilla, female, 60, Filipino/Israeli.
    6.Irina Tatem, female, 73, Russian.
7.Betin Letin Yehuda, female, 49, American.
8.Mirav Ben Yamin Tal, female, 53.
    9.Ada Mordechai Sageh, female, 75.
    10.Ophelia Rothman, female, 77.
    11.Detiza Hyman, female, 84.

    Quote Posted by shaberon (here)
In an effort to perhaps understand one another, I don't think anything I have found or posted is contradictory to this framework:

Quote Posted by Michel Leclerc (here)
    (3) the Semitic languages are closely related to another language macro family, called the Hamitic one (best known languages: Pharaonic Egyptian and Berber); the pair is called Hamito-Semitic or Afroasiatic;

    (4) Hamito-Semitic or Afroasiatic is in itself related to the other language macrofamilies belonging to the “Nostratic” "mega family" (the degree of proximity being under discussion): to Nostratic belong as well the Indo-European, the Uralic (Finnish, Estonian, Hungarian, Sami), the Altaic (all Turkic languages, Mongolian, Korean, Japanese), the (South Indian) Dravidian (Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam) and the Kartvelian (Georgian and other languages of the Caucasus) languages.

I think what I am trying to do is suss out a better explanation than "related to" and "degree of proximity". "Nostratic" = "Japhetic"?

So far, the part that does not seem obvious in the general framework is that South Arabian would have to represent a notably earlier immigration or expansion.

No one in the world has been able to explain or trace "Biblical Shem" in any substantial way, but, there is an "Aramaic Shem" which retains the story of what we might call "Abraham's passage", which are perhaps suggestive of a symbolic view of Aram and South Arabia from the "distant" pre-2,000 B. C. E. era. These potential symbols do not come with their own versions of kings' lists or genealogies, just the implication that "Aram" was meaningful for over a thousand years before becoming a *particular* king of Damascus in the post-Mycenean stage.

I haven't figured out what you were trying to suggest with "Greek Minoan B". You said you had questions about why the IVC architecture with its sanitation and other features was abandoned. This is very interesting, but is interior to India, and so for purposes of this thread, I will try to stick to how India was associated with/informative to the middle east. That happens to be by supplying the Lapis Lazuli and Tin, upon which all these middle eastern cultures are derived, and additional factors. These seem to include a huge lateral impact on the Greek language.

The point I was making is that nothing attests to the "event" of Thera's volcano/tsunamis, despite the standing connections to multiple trading partners, and "seizing the moment" after it happened.

My understanding is that Minoan A was a very different culture, whose continental associates were "driven underground" as oracles and mystery cults, in caves and remote wildernesses, because the original Cretans were rapidly replaced by Dorians or Myceneans. Hesiod may very well be symbolizing them as "Gold" and then lesser ages. From what we can tell, it means the spread of an oppressive oligarchy, for centuries until it decayed horribly, until Solomon and the King of Tyre seem to be the founders of "states" in the Phoenician and Hebrew groups, which is the same point that "Saba" is formed out of the South Arabians, while "Arab" is Jordanian. We can say Isfahan began cultivating Minoan Saffron here as well.

Now, of course, any prominent leaders at that time could have hardly been unaware of numerous natural disasters, such as two towns eliminated by earthquakes, but also the political system of recent kings. If this is on the table, and we figure out how to fashion something wise and good in response to it, then, we will find that David and Solomon's priesthood is replaced by a "class". The later exception to this is that Jesus is the Order of Melchizidek. He rebukes the standing socio-economic order in his first known appearance. If you meditate just on historical Solomon and Jesus, this can be done without necessarily as part of any one of the religions, and you would still get something good and wise out of it. There's no way it would tend towards Zionism in its current form. You'd have to make simple and obvious things much more difficult to understand, and perform illusion.
My reminders are about languages, Shaberon, and only concern them.

(Fyi: “Greek Minoan B” is a linguistic label: “Minoan B” is a script, it has been deciphered by Ventris and shown to be Greek. All documents in Minoan B are now pertinent to the history of Greek as a language. There is no non-Greek Minoan B.
Minoan A is a different script, preceding in time Minoan B, and remains undeciphered.)

Linguistics is an “almost” exact science. When one calls Greek Humpty-Dumpty and Latin The Wizard of Oz that does not change anything about their Indo-European character. Humpty-Dumpty and The Wizard of Oz will then be two Indo-European languages.

You keep suggesting that Semitic does not have much substance because the name Shem etc etc. It does not matter; when we call Hebrew an Anacondic language and Akkadian also, they will both be related because they will both share the essential characteristics of Anacondic languages. Semitic is just the linguistic consensus term for that group of languages. Feel free to ignore it, by all means.

(The term has an ideological connotation in the combination "anti-Semitic”, but that is a different story. The linguistic characteristics of Hebrew were, together with those of Arabic and other Semitic languages, construed as “racially” determined in 18th/19th century Europe – as opposed to the Indo-European ones – and inferior to them. What I do by applying "antisemitism” to Zionism is to bring the captured meaning of "antisemitic” (forcing it to mean “anti-Jewish”) back to its original meaning – and hence, which is quite enlightening I think – reinterpret Zionism as antisemitism in the sense of its origins: fighting the “race(s)” whose characteristics one finds embodied and rejects in the languages that on linguistic grounds are given a common name: Semitic.)

Relationships among languages and language families and macro families (and “mega families”) are not whims of idiot savants. They constitute scientific truth with varying probability. It requires quite some scientific university-level training as well as lifelong intellectual effort to be able to make meaningful contributions to the field, amongst other things by modifying the weighing of those probabilities. I attach great importance to the study of languages because it is one of the more tangible angles we possess when studying past reality, even as a necessary prerequisite for the study of the past. It is a form of hard evidence, although it is not generally considered to be so. That is, in my humble opinion, because the historical study of languages requires the mastery of quite a number of contemporary languages for two reasons: (1) the scientific literature available has been written in those languages and partially a long time before the onslaught of the meme “if it is not in English it it does not count”, and (2) mastering quite a number of languages gives one a refined sensitivity for what is “linguistically possible” and hence ”probable” in the interrelationships of word-roots, semantic shifts, sound changes etc. —— and that is a feat that most humans consider below their dignity.

I brought the Indus Valley Civilisation to the fore as an example of how essential the study of its language would be for our understanding of the civilisation. I thought that was clear from what I wrote.

I attach another essential role in the study of the past to what natural science can tell us. Typically geology. That is definitely hard science.

Whenever amateur historians or mythologists claim anything about the past my natural reaction it is to ask (1) what is the original text of the linguistic documentary evidence, and (2) what does the geological record tell us.

    Finally. You write:

I think what I am trying to do is suss out a better explanation than "related to" and "degree of proximity". "Nostratic" = "Japhetic"?

Good luck with your project for your first sentence. It will however require a serious effort at studying ancient languages (as a sole self-study object!) and at acquiring reading facility with quite a number of contemporary ones. But there is good news: Jim Duyer “taught himself Aramaean” in just six months!

As for your second question: no. But... this is a question I would not ask, because Japhet is just a mythological figure, and moreover coming from a heavily doctored context: the Bible. If calling the Semitic languages Semitic is already so difficult to swallow (and the Hamitic languages Hamitic?), let us not add one Biblical misdenomination to the heap, I would say. Yet, in the past, I have myself – and only for didactic purposes – asked my audience: if Sem has become the figurehead of Semitic languages, and Ham of Hamitic languages, of which language family Japheth could then have been the figurehead?

You made a try, for which I congratulate you, but you made a categorisation mistake. Obviously, as Japheth was Sem’s and Ham’s brother, it should be a sister language family that carries his name (and not a mother language family as Nostratic is) – and which would be more “proximate” than the Indo-European language family? At the time when the Bible “authors”were crafting their texts the Semitic-speaking peoples of Near East did have Northern (and Eastern) neighbours who spoke Indo-European languages, so...

10 US Air Force Stratotankers which are used to refuel fighter jets mid-air are on the way to the Middle East. Looks like Biden and Harris have committed the US military to join Israel’s long desired war against Iran. Did the US Congress approve this?

US Air Force Captain Daniel Alwan violated operational security by revealing that he’s in Israel to prepare for a strike against Iran? Shortly after he made this post he deleted it. Did the US Congress approve the use of US pilots in an act of war against Iran?

No need to follow anyone, only consider broadening (y)our horizon of possibilities ...

He should add Saudi-Arabia in there also...
New fatwa: There is no difference between Zionists and Jordanians & Egyptians!

Grand Mufti of Libya Sheikh Al-Sadiq Al-Ghariani:

“The people have not done what they should, and their movements are weak. The people are not excused and it is their duty to storm the borders. Egyptians and Jordanians guard the borders of Israel, and there is no difference between them and the Zionists, who are implementing a plan to control the lands of Muslims. The rulers who rejoice in the massacres in Gaza will soon face their turn.”
