Default Samsung Warns Users Not to Discuss Personal Info in Front of TV

According to NextNewsNetwork, Samsung's new TV's come with a warning that conversations will be picked up and transmitted as text if voice recognition features are enabled.

After the 1984 bit (about 1/6th of the way through-sorry, I can't see the counter on my kindle!), the TV's instructions are read and displayed.

p.s. Ok, just found the actual documentation. It appears as if it can pick up more than just conversations via facial recognition.

So now the tv's are survelance cameras, and advertisement plants for what is on our mind, whenever we boycott net or just turn the tv off, which really isn't off. The only way to stop it is to unplug the devices as they cannot operate without power. Now a laptop has back up battery power to keep from losing data, so unplug or be the lab specimen Sims charecter for their next profit quarter's ideas in ads. This is beyond the pale, but we all have a choice, to use it or not to use it. I personally think it's a "patent stealer program so when a person comes up with an idea, their corporation can come out with it first. It's evident that we don't just give it away, otherwise there wouldn't be hacking.

Just reinforcing what we already should be aware of. I don't think they even need any electronics if they want to listen to what is going on in a room or house

Cystal quartz is used in ever piece of electronic equipment that needs to track time, heartbeats... it is literal heart of device, which btw does NOT stop when you turn device.. you can read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crystal_oscillator

so you can unplug it how much you want it has it beat going...

So a relative of mine bought us a samsung smart tv, an older model before this voice recog thing, but We always unplug it when its not in use, but its strange there is often a red light that stays on for quite a while even when unplugged.

It is an error indicator and/or the off indicator, and it takes a while for the capacitor that is charging that circuit -to drain. anywhere from 5-10-15 seconds (at most, in most cases)

I generally (over 95% of the time) have my cell phone completely off, and sometimes have the battery removed.

Just today (February 10, 2015) in the US, the NBC Today Show and CBS Morning News shows both reported that Samsung's Smart TVs can capture audio and video information and that it will be transmitted to 3rd parties. Interestingly, I could not find any mention of the Today Show's TV story (that I saw this morning) on its or the NBC News' websites. However, I did find two 2013 articles on the CBS News' and ABC News' websites.

CBS News August 3, 2013 Story

ABC News August 18, 2013 Story

And this article "We Have More To Worry About Than Samsung's Smart TV Privacy Policy."
