Dopamine Nation: Finding Balance in the Age of Indulgence
    Dr. Anna Lembke, 2023

    Summary
    4.5/5 (9,894 ratings)
INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES and LOS ANGELES TIMES BESTSELLER
“Brilliant . . . riveting, scary, cogent, and cleverly argued.”
~ Beth Macy, author of Dopesick

This book is about pleasure. It’s also about pain. Most important, it’s about how to find the delicate balance between the two, and why now more than ever finding balance is essential. We’re living in a time of unprecedented access to high-reward, high-dopamine stimuli: drugs, food, news, gambling, shopping, gaming, texting, sexting, Facebooking, Instagramming, YouTubing, tweeting . . . The increased numbers, variety, and potency is staggering. The smartphone is the modern-day hypodermic needle, delivering digital dopamine 24/7 for a wired generation. As such we’ve all become vulnerable to compulsive overconsumption.

In Dopamine Nation, Dr. Anna Lembke, psychiatrist and author, explores the exciting new scientific discoveries that explain why the relentless pursuit of pleasure leads to pain . . . and what to do about it. Condensing complex neuroscience into easy-to-understand metaphors, Lembke illustrates how finding contentment and connectedness means keeping dopamine in check. The lived experiences of her patients are the gripping fabric of her narrative. Their riveting stories of suffering and redemption give us all hope for managing our consumption and transforming our lives. In essence, Dopamine Nation shows that the secret to finding balance is combining the science of desire with the wisdom of recovery.

Why Russia & America Won't Talk About Their Cold War Moon Discovery (7 minutes)
Gregg Braden: Here we are on a planet on the verge of global war because we believe our differences are so great that we must hurt one another to solve those differences.

What would it mean for a space probe from earth to land on the lunar surface and find these archaeological remanents and find that they're not from aliens from another world, but they're from us from another time? And I think when they send those images and you see the glyphs on those temple walls will know exactly what they say because they will be in our root languages.

Would that be enough for us to look at one another as nations and say, “My God, look at the great and beautiful things that we did when we work together a long time ago in the past. What can we achieve if we came together right now? What could we give to our children? And what could we give to our future if we work together instead of destroying ourselves?

Something like that could be the catalyst.

@56 minutes - Steven Bartlett show a picture of the brain and the impact from cocaine, alcohol and heroin. He was going to leave a link in the description section. I didn’t see one or missed it so I’ll add a few others. (post above)

Dopamine in drug abuse and addiction.

Note: these brain images aren’t dopamine related but are relevant to the topic.

Back by popular demand – the sometimes controversial and always provocative Alex Epstein, founder of the Center of Industrial Progress, teller of uncomfortable truths, and author Fossil Future: Why Global Human Flourishing Requires More Oil, Coal, and Natural Gas—Not Less.

If you’re at all like me, you love books that live up to their titles. This one does. Alex is an energy expert who believes that our planet has all the necessary resources to support all the people on it and then some.

He also believes that the planet is warming and that our reliance on fossil fuels is partly to blame. He is by no means a “climate change denier,” but he does NOT believe that fossil fuels should be limited or replaced by alternatives. Far from it. Alex believes that oil, coal, and natural gas are the best hope for human flourishing and that their actual impact on the climate can only be properly evaluated if we first understand their overall impact on humanity.

No.1 Toxicologist: These Products Were Making Me Infertile And Are Harming Your Future Kids!
There are five main reasons why I would not burn conventional candles (or incense):
    1. When you light those candles, they liberate carcinogens. Ultra fine particles are some of the most hazardous substances that you create in your home.
    2. They release volatile organic compounds.
    3. They contain fragrance that can be endocrine, disruptors, carcinogens, and allergen.
    4. Some of the dyes that are used to color, candles are carcinogenic.
    5. Candles are largely unregulated. soy blend candle can include paraffin wax.
Consumer Product Safety Commission, which regulates candles doesn't look at the ingredients in the candle, they're concerned with the vessel, the container of the candle whether or not it's fireproof and whether or not the lead contains with the wick contains lead. They're not looking at what's in the wax. Studies have shown that when you like these candles, you are liberating a significant number of hazardous chemicals.

It’s same for incense. Incense has been used for thousands of years but incense as we know it now is not the same. They now contain against the end disruptors, but also the ultra fine particles and studies have shown that incense creates more ultra fine particles in pollutants than cigarette smoke. There's an increased risk of cancer because these ultra fine particles are damaging DNA.

People who are around incense for hours upon hours at a time, there's an increased risk of cancer. Not only that there's an increased risk of cancer almost three fold in children.

Solution: Find a candle that is low emission like bees wax, essential oils, wooden or cotton wicks. That’s a much better alternative than your conventional brightly colored paraffin wax candle.

My crap detector is going off big time .... Trump joking about making Canada the 51st State and serious about buying Greenland - does anybody else see these moves as what someone in power might do if he knew that there was a polar shift coming up, or a space object that would crash and make the lower portions of Earth unlivable-unproductive?

    • I don't make art often. This was supposed to be a small project - took a year. ❤

    There was so much wonder.
    Joy didn't need a reason.
The laughter echoed in summer evenings. Everything felt possible
You never questions whether you belonged.

    Please come back.

You didn't need words to feel understood.
    The stars were closer. Right?
The dreams that lived under your pillow.
Barefoot through the grass before the world told you who to be.
You didn't need permission to feel this.

When did your dreams get smaller than your fears?
Do you still feel the wonder you once had?
When did you stop believing you were enough?
The quiet spaces in your heart… are calling you back.
That precious kid is still here and they don't deserve this.
    You know it.
    The deathbed is waiting.
    Don't wait to live.
Who were you before the world distracted you? You've forgotten your real name.
    Say it.
    I me.

    Come back, please.

The Insulin & Glucose Doctor: This Will Strip Your Fat Faster Than Anything
Dr. Benjamin Beckman is the leading metabolic scientists. His research focus on the hidden epidemic of insulin resistance and it’s devastating consequences. By regaining control of your insulin levels you regain control of your life.

Insulin resistance is at the core of most chronic diseases that are killing us. More specifically it’s the lifestyle habits that are contributing to it.

Insulin is a hormone that affects literally every single cell of the body. But if those cells become insulin resistant, you start to spread the disease. For example, they call Alzheimer's insulin resistance of the brain. Even the most common forms of infertility, erectile dysfunction and PCOS, insulin resistance is a heavy contributor.

88% of adult in the US have some degree of insulin resistance. People hear this and think America is just fat and metabolically sick but we're not actually the worst country because of how different ethnicities store fat.

    * PCOS - Polycystic Ovary Syndrome is a hormonal disorder that affects women of reproductive age.

Why We Get Sick: The Hidden Epidemic at the Root of Most
Chronic Disease - and How to Fight It

    Summary
    4.8 out of 5 (3,851 ratings)
A scientist reveals the groundbreaking evidence linking many major diseases, including cancer, diabetes, and Alzheimer's disease, to a common root cause—insulin resistance—and shares an easy, effective plan to reverse and prevent it.

We are sick. Around the world, we struggle with diseases that were once considered rare. Cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer's disease, and diabetes affect millions each year; many people are also struggling with hypertension, weight gain, fatty liver, dementia, low testosterone, menstrual irregularities and infertility, and more. We treat the symptoms, not realizing that all of these diseases and disorders have something in common.

Each of them is caused or made worse by a condition known as insulin resistance. And you might have it. Odds are you do—over half of all adults in the United States are insulin resistant, with most other countries either worse or not far behind.

In Why We Get Sick, internationally renowned scientist and pathophysiology professor Benjamin Bikman explores why insulin resistance has become so prevalent and why it matters. Unless we recognize it and take steps to reverse the trend, major chronic diseases will be even more widespread. But reversing insulin resistance is possible, and Bikman offers an evidence-based plan to stop and prevent it, with helpful food lists, meal suggestions, easy exercise principles, and more. Full of surprising research and practical advice, Why We Get Sick will help you to take control of your health.

    • Get the insulin down any way you can. More insulin more fat. It’s just that simple.
    • People consume high fructose corn syrup because they eat ultra processed food. The same for corn syrup and sucrose. It's table sugar, maple syrup, agave or honey. There are five caloric sweeteners and all of them have the fructose molecule.
    • 73% of the items in the American grocery store have been spiked with added sugar. It accounts for 58% of the sugar or diet in ultra processed food.

Here's how to make your glasses fit better. (8 min)
Learn some easy tricks of the trade that will enable you to personalize the fit of your new frames from the comfort of home. Adjusting and positioning your glasses make them fit like they’re custom made for you.

Our demo will focus on adjustments to correct the three most common problems:
    • How to Fix Crooked Glasses - 4-point Alignment Is the Starting Point
When you rest the glasses on a flat surface, both right side up and right side down, all four points meet.

Now, what happens if there is a little wobble?

To remedy, learn how to gently bend the temple on the end side where there is a gap.

Most temple arms include a wire core which allows for minor adjustment. When they sit flat, right side up or upside down, you’re done. This alignment is ideal for those with perfectly symmetrical faces and ears.

Also covered are easy instructions for those with one ear that is slightly lower or higher than the other.
    • How to Fix Glasses That Slide Down Your Nose and Face
Learn how to safely increase the bend of the temple arms where they curve over the ear for a more secure fit? No more slipping.

The Opposite of the Slipping Problem Is When the Angle of the Curve of the Temple Arms Is Too Short

To remedy, we will demonstrate how to just modify the bend over the ear to lessen the curve and improve fit.
    • How to Safely Make Nose Pad Adjustments
If it feels like your glasses are sitting a little high or little low, a minor adjustment can do the trick. Also, if you purchased bifocals or progressive no-line lenses and would like to raise or lower the reading channel—a simple adjustment can fix that, too.

This demo is designed to empower you to safely customize the fit of your glasses in as little as a few seconds, so you can enjoy and maintain a perfect, personalized, super-comfortable fit.

The MOST AMAZING CAR Build I've Ever Seen!

No Van? No Problem! This Sedan Build Will Blow Your Mind!
Tee spent about 2 months transforming her 2005 Nissan Maxima into a stealthy, road-ready home on wheels. Instead of waiting for the "perfect" van or RV, she decided to work with what she already had. With a clever design that includes a hidden fridge below the floor, Tee has made the most of her compact space while staying discreet for stealth camping. Her minimalist approach proves that you don’t need a big vehicle or a big budget to live a life of freedom and adventure.

On Episode 17 of Bledsoe Said So, the guys recited Chris Bledsoe Sr.'s hypnotic regression with Barbara Lamb which took place in 2018. During the regression, Chris recalled his encounter with the Lady. Episode 17 of BSS includes a full narration of the regression from Nick with commentary and context provided by Ryan. This episode is an uninterrupted rendition of Chris Bledsoe's second hypnotic regression in full.
