Which US states could be hit hardest by Trump’s Canada and Mexico tariffs?
Montana imports 93 percent of its goods from Canada and Mexico, the most of any state, while Hawaii imports the least at 4 percent.

United States tariffs on Mexican and Canadian imports took effect on Tuesday. The levies, set at 25 percent by US President Donald Trump, have been followed by the doubling of duties on Chinese goods to 20 percent. Levies on Canadian energy are limited to 10 percent.

Mexico and Canada, the top US trading partners, account for more than 30 percent of total goods traded, exceeding $1.6 trillion. The move has triggered trade tensions, including retaliatory tariffs, that could slow economic growth and drive up prices for Americans still recovering from years of high inflation.

“We estimate the tariffs could lead to a nearly $1,000 per household increase annually in the cost of goods,” said Nationwide Mutual chief economist Kathy Bostjancic.

How much of each state’s imports come from Canada and Mexico?

Montana imports 93 percent of its goods from Canada and Mexico, the most of any state. Maine comes in second at 71 percent, followed by Michigan and Vermont (70 percent) and North Dakota (68 percent).

While prices are expected to rise nationwide, these states are expected to be hit the hardest by the latest tariffs, as their economies are the most heavily dependent on imports from Canada and Mexico.

The map and table below shows the percentage of imports from Canada and Mexico for each state.

Montana is a net supplier of energy to the rest of the US, and has four refineries, receiving crude oil mostly from Canada and Wyoming, according to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA).

The US imports about four million barrels of oil per day from Canada. Ten percent levies on Canadian energy will likely increase the operational costs for these refineries, leading to Americans paying higher prices for electricity and gasoline or petrol.

What does each state import the most from Canada?

Canada is the largest foreign supplier of oil to the US, with energy products, including crude oil and petroleum products, accounting for about 30 percent of all Canadian exports to the US. Cars, tractors and auto parts are the second-largest export, followed by machinery and mechanical appliances. Other significant exports include medicines, plastics and wood products.

Oil and gas are the leading imports for 13 states, including California, Colorado, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Minnesota, Montana, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and Washington.

Petroleum and coal products rank second, being the top import for six states: Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island.

Aerospace products come third, leading imports in five states: Georgia, West Virginia, Florida, Kansas, and Connecticut.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said yesterday that Canada would respond with retaliatory tariffs on more than $100bn of US goods.

What does each state import the most from Mexico?

Mexico is one of the largest foreign suppliers of goods to the US, with cars, trucks and auto parts making up the largest share of exports. Machinery and electrical equipment follow as key exports, including industrial machinery, computers and household appliances. Other major exports include petroleum products, farm products, medical devices, plastics and textiles.

The map below shows the top import from Mexico for each state.

Motor vehicles are the top imports for 16 states, including Arkansas, California, Florida, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

Motor vehicle parts rank second, leading imports in seven states: Alabama, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Ohio, Oregon, and South Carolina.

Computer equipment follows in third place, topping imports in five states: Georgia, New York, North Carolina, Texas, and Virginia.

Australian whose blood saved 2.4 million babies dies

One of the world's most prolific blood donors - whose plasma saved the lives of more than two million babies - has died.

James Harrison died in his sleep at a nursing home in New South Wales, Australia on 17 February, his family said on Monday. He was 88.

Known in Australia as the man with the golden arm, Harrison's blood contained a rare antibody, Anti-D, which is used to make medication given to pregnant mothers whose blood is at risk of attacking their unborn babies.

The Australian Red Cross Blood Service who paid tribute to Harrison, said he had pledged to become a donor after receiving transfusions while undergoing a major chest surgery when he was 14.

He started donating his blood plasma when he was 18 and continued doing so every two weeks until he was 81.

In 2005, he had the world record for most blood plasma donated - a title he held until 2022 when he was overtaken by a man in the US.

Harrison's daughter, Tracey Mellowship, said her father was "very proud to have saved so many lives, without any cost or pain".

"He always said it does not hurt, and the life you save could be your own," she said.

Mellowship and two of Harrison's grandchildren are also recipients of anti-D immunisations.

"It made [James] happy to hear about the many families like ours, who existed because of his kindness," she said.

Anti-D jabs protect unborn babies from a deadly blood disorder called haemolytic disease of the foetus and newborn, or HDFN.

The condition occurs at pregnancy when the mother's red blood cells are incompatible with that of their growing baby.

The mother's immune system then sees the baby's blood cells as a threat and produces antibodies to attack them. This can seriously harm the baby, causing severe anaemia, heart failure, or even death.

Before anti-D interventions were developed in the mid-1960s, one in two babies diagnosed with HDFN died.

It is unclear how Harrison's blood came to be so rich in anti-D, but some reports said it had to do with the massive blood transfusion he received at 14.

There are fewer than 200 anti-D donors in Australia, but they help an estimated 45,000 mothers and their babies every year, according to the Australian Red Cross Blood Service, also known as Lifeblood.

Lifeblood has been working with Australia's Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research to grow anti-D antibodies in the lab by replicating blood and immune cells from Harrison and other donors.

Researchers involved hope lab-made anti-D can one day be used to help pregnant women worldwide.

"Creating a new therapy has long been a 'holy grail'," Lifeblood's research director David Irving said.

He noted the scarcity of donors committed to regular donation, who are able to produce antibodies in sufficient quality and quantity.

Considering what I've heard (from Juan O Savin ) about what's going on in South Korea I suspect this story has a lot more to it (since when did airforces issue instant apologies before an enquiry). Trump has sent significant US forces to the country since his inauguration to respond to the jailing of the President for trying to use a 24hr martial law to seize evidence of election fraud. The attempt failed due to inaccurate information and the crooks grabbed and jailed him and several of his team. Their circumstances are dire.

Eight 225kg Mk82 bombs were accidentally dropped from a KF-16 jet fell outside during military exercises in Pocheon, South Korea.

An official with Gyeonggi-do Bukbu Fire Services said 15 people were wounded, two of which were seriously hurt.

Fifteen people were injured in South Korea after bombs dropped by an air force jet landed in a civilian district, damaging houses and a church.

South Korea's Air Force said eight 225kg Mk82 bombs from KF-16 jets fell during military exercises in Pocheon.

The incident occurred during joint live-fire exercises with the army, the air force said.

An official with Gyeonggi-do Bukbu Fire Services said out of the fifteen people wounded, two were seriously hurt.

Pocheon is about 40 kilometres north-east of Seoul, near the heavily militarised border with North Korea.

"We are sorry for the damage caused by the abnormal drop accident, and we wish the injured a speedy recovery," the air force said in a statement.

The air force said it will establish a committee to investigate why the accident happened and examine the scale of civilian damages.

Photographs of the scene showed a badly damaged house with rubble strewn on the ground next to it.

Yes, these are accurate reports. After a record 150-day, almost-zero-rain drought last year, the winter rains are now far heavier than normal. (Not so much here at high altitudes where I am, though mountain hikes with my dog are often very wet adventures. )

It's climate change, for sure — and as we all know, these pendulum-swinging extremes are happening just everywhere.

Don't Holiday In Mexico !!!

Why do people continue to vacation in Mexico in the middle of Cartel turf wars where you could be mistaken for scouts of a rival faction looking to expand your territory by appearing to be harmless students who are just looking to have a good time? These Cartels are more territorial than a hungry stray dog standing over the last piece of meat against other feral dogs.

And for their parents not to have any iota how dangerous Mexico is let's me know they are just as clueless as their children. One of my people told me that the Los Rojos Cartel believed the students were Los Zacapoaxtlas operatives scouting Oaxaca for expansion.

Which is the most common reason innocent people are killed in Mexico. I heard they were all tortured for two hours. They were followed and ran off the road by two black Toyota Hilux trucks that had Eight armed men. People need to start educating their children on these areas. Everything is not a vacation spot just because you seen a brochure with bright sandy beaches, pool, and liquor bar. Because that's owned by the Cartel too.

BREAKING: 🚨 Nearly a dozen students found dismemb-red by Mexico highway after vanishing on vacation.

Nearly a dozen dismember-d bodies, believed to be those of missing students who had been vacationing in Oaxaca, Mexico, were discovered Sunday along a highway, according to local reports.

Authorities say body parts from at least nine individuals were found inside and around an abandoned vehicle, which was concealed beneath a bl-odstained tarp.

A team of Chinese scientists and surgeons successfully conducted a minimally invasive "brain-spine interface" (BSI) surgery, restoring a paralyzed patient's ability to stand and walk within 24 hours post-surgery.

The surgery, fourth of its kind for clinical proof of concept, was conducted at Shanghai's Zhongshan Hospital, but it was the world's first to enable an individual with a total paraplegia – an impairment in motor or sensory function of the lower extremities – to be able to stand and walk through BSI technology, the hospital announced on Tuesday.

The patient, surnamed Lin, is a 34-year-old from south China's Guangdong Province. Two years ago, he fell from a 4-meter-high staircase, sustaining severe spinal injuries and a brain hemorrhage. Despite extensive treatment, Lin's legs remained completely paralyzed, leaving him dependent on a wheelchair. Spinal cord injury disrupts communication between the brain and the part of the spinal cord that controls walking, resulting in paralysis.

During the minimally invasive surgery, two electrode chips, each about one millimeter in diameter, were implanted into the brain's motor cortex. The entire procedure, including both brain and spinal cord interventions, was completed in just four hours. Within 24 hours post-surgery and with the assistance of artificial intelligence, the patient regained leg movement.

The most significant challenge of this BSI technology lies in the limited number of electrodes available for implantation in the human body and the ability to decode human movement intentions in real time.

From January to February this year, the team had completed three clinical proof-of-concept surgeries. Patients with severe spinal cord injuries regained the ability to control their legs and walk within two weeks.

The team will continue to optimize and iterate the technology, aiming to restore walking ability for more spinal injury patients and bring hope to millions of patients and their families worldwide.

We spoke about the academic literature on modern civil wars, why Britain is particularly vulnerable, the importance of the rural/urban divide, the vulnerability of British infrastructure, and the errors currently being made by the British government.

Plus, in our Godless and nihilistic society, many of the native Brits have inverted values, including a highly developed and established hatred of their culture and country.

Especially the managerial, professional and intellectual classes (of which I am one) would continue to take the side directed against themselves - because they already regard their own socio-cultural annihilation as A Good Thing, and this could easily be extended into a positive desire for physical annihilation.
