The new documentary The Encampments, produced by Watermelon Pictures and BreakThrough News, is an insider's look at the student protest movement to demand divestment from the U.S. and Israeli weapons industry and an end to the genocide in Gaza. The film focuses on last year's student encampment at Columbia University and features student leaders including Mahmoud Khalil, who was chosen by the university as a liaison between the administration and students. Khalil, a U.S. permanent resident, has since been arrested and detained by immigration enforcement as part of the Trump administration's attempt to deport immigrants who exercise their right to free speech and protest. "Columbia has gone to every extent to try to censor this movement," says Munir Atalla, a producer for the film and a former film professor at Columbia.

We speak with Atalla; Sueda Polat, a Columbia graduate student and fellow campus negotiator with Khalil; and Grant Miner, a former Columbia graduate student and president of the student workers' union who was expelled from the school over his participation in the protests. "Functionally, I was expelled for speaking out against genocide," Miner says. All three of our guests emphasize their continued commitment to pro-Palestine activism even in the face of increasing institutional repression. The Encampments is opening nationwide in April.

Was Palestinian history carefully recorded by the earliest 20th-century filmmakers as a way of preserving their heritage? Or were they, as some Israelis claim, simply disorganised amateurs operating on basic equipment in a primitive society?

In this documentary, Israeli researcher and filmmaker Karnit Mandel uncovers previously unseen footage of Palestinian life and history in a box of old VHS tapes.
The cassettes are a small sample from a huge archive seized from the PLO during Israel's 1982 invasion of Lebanon. Mandel tries to retrieve it from the Israeli army but comes up against overwhelming obstacles and bureaucracy.
She hears a range of contrasting views, from Palestinians who describe a well-developed film industry in the 1930s to dismissive Israeli historians who say Palestinian cinema never existed at all. In the end, Mandel is forced to abandon her search – but it highlights the continuing struggle for narrative control over Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory.

Thank you Bojancan for this extraordinary film. It moves me, a lot, to see the smiling faces again I saw in August 74. The poor lads did not fathom yet what lay ahead of them. The Zionist troops were not brutal yet in al Quds – as they would be 50 years later – and earlier.

War journalism or rather propaganda – how similar it looks to the Nazi war propaganda projected in the movie theatres in Germany. And then there are the triumphalist documents, the "picture books" about the prowess of the Israeli army.

Exceptionalism as a verb to conjugate in all its tenses, person, number. The Arabs did not have any culture, only we did. I.e. a few Slavonic-looking dances amidst their olive trees.

Fortunately, there are righteous people: the film maker herself, the Israeli state archivist. In one hundred years they will figure in the Palestinian Yad Vashem monument.

Danny Haiphong unmasks the truth about Trump's Middle East war debacle... in it he is so quite clairvoyant... it's also the reason why he has his own show... here is interested interview with The Duran.... Haiphong argues, that Trump faces a catastrophic defeat on all fronts... and unveils the interests that rest at the foundations of the US's big push to war... not just on Yemen, but the real target is Iran.

Authoritarian Politics: Netanyahu’s War on Israeli Institutions
By Dr. Binoy Kampmark (Global Research)
    March 28, 2025

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is waging a war on many fronts. He has ended the tense ceasefire with Hamas in Gaza in spectacularly bloody fashion and resumed bombing of Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon. Missiles fired at Israel from the Houthi rebels in Yemen also risk seeing a further widening of hostilities.

Domestically, he has been conducting a bruising, even thuggish campaign against Israeli institutions and their representatives, an effort that is impossible to divorce from his ongoing trial for corruption. He has, for instance, busied himself with removing the attorney general, Gali Baharav-Miara, a process that will be lengthy considering the necessary role of a special appointments committee. On May 23, the cabinet passed a no-confidence motion against her, prompting a sharp letter from the attorney general that the Netanyahu government had ventured to place itself “above the law, to act without checks and balances, and even at the most sensitive of times”.

High up on the Netanyahu hit list is the intelligence official Ronen Bar, the Shin Bet chief he explicitly accuses of having foreknowledge of the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023.

“This is a fact and not a conspiracy,” a statement from the prime minister’s office bluntly asserted. At 4.30am that morning “it was already clear to the outgoing Shin Bet head that an invasion of the State of Israel was likely.”

The PMO failed to mention Netanyahu’s self-interest in targeting Bar, given that Shin Bet is investigating the office for connections with the Qatari government allegedly involving cash disbursements to promote Doha’s interests.

While Bar has been formally sacked, a measure never undertaken by any government of the Israeli state, the Israeli High Court has extended a freeze on his removal while permitting Netanyahu to consider replacement candidates.

It is the judiciary, however, that has commanded much attention, pre-dating the October 7 attacks. Much of 2023 was given over to attempting to compromise the Supreme Court of its influence and independence. Some legislation to seek that process had been passed in July 2023 but the Supreme Court subsequently struck down that law in January 2024 in an 8-7 decision. The relevant law removed the Court’s means to check executive power through invalidating government decisions deemed “unreasonable”. In the view of former Chief Justice Esther Hayut, the law was “extreme and irregular”, marking a departure “from the foundational authorities of the Knesset, and therefore it must be struck down.”

Even in wartime, the Netanyahu government’s appetite to clip the wings of an active judiciary remained strong. In January 2025, it made a second attempt, with a new, modified proposal jointly authored by Israeli Justice Minister Yariv Levin and Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar. The law, passed by the Knesset in its third and final reading on March 27, alters the committee responsible for appointing judges. The previous nine-member judicial selection committee had been composed of three judges, two independent lawyers and four politicians, equally divided between government and opposition. Now, the relevant lawyers will be government and opposition appointees, intended to take effect after the next elections.

The convulsions in Israeli politics have been evident from various efforts to stall, if not abandon the legislation altogether. The law changing the judicial appointments committee had received 71,023 filed objections. While it passed 67-1, it only did so with the opposition boycotting the vote. Benny Gantz, the chair of National Unity, wrote to Netanyahu ahead of the readings pleading for its abandonment.

“I’m appealing to you as someone who bears responsibility for acting on behalf of all citizens of this country.”

He reminded the PM that Israeli society was “wounded and bleeding, divided in a way we have not seen since October 6 [2023]. Fifty-nine of our brothers and sisters are still captive in Gaza, and our soldiers, from all political factions, are fighting on multiple fronts.”

The warning eventually came. To operate in such a manner, permitting a parliamentary majority to “unilaterally approve legislation opposed by the people, will harm the ability to create broad reform that appeals to the whole, will lead to polarization and will increase distrust in both the legislative and executive branches.”

Before lawmakers in a final effort to convince, Gantz, citing former Prime Minister Menachem Begin, issued a reminder that “democracies fall or die slowly when they suffer from a malignant disease called the disease of the majority”. Such a disease advanced gradually till “the curtain of darkness slowly [descended] on society.”

    Text:
⚡️🇮🇱BREAKING: Israel’s new “Concentration Camp” plan for Gaza.

Recent statements by Israeli officials suggest a plan to forcibly relocate Gaza’s population—over two million people—into a confined and possibly fenced “humanitarian zone,” where anyone outside the zone may be targeted.

    Journalist Yinon Magal tweeted:
“The IDF intends to evacuate all residents of the Strip to a new ‘humanitarian zone’… confined and designated for long-term stay. Entry will be screened… anyone remaining outside will be targeted. The plan is backed by the U.S.”

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant echoed the policy in a recorded warning:
“This is your final warning… If hostages are not released and Hamxs is not removed, Israel will act with unprecedented force… Other options, including emigration, will open. The alternative is total destruction.”

Former senior officer Brig. Gen. (res.) Erez Wiener, previously involved in planning Gaza operations, described the moment as a long-awaited “turning point,” having advocated for direct Israeli military rule in the Strip.

Critics argue the strategy reflects a broader policy direction resembling forced population transfer. Leaked military plans, cited by The Wall Street Journal, reinforce these concerns. Analysts, including Dr. Dotan Halevy, say voluntary evacuation is unrealistic, and relocation efforts mirror long-standing Israeli ambitions to reduce Gaza’s population.

Historian Dr. Omri Shafer Raviv documents past efforts to encourage Palestinian emigration post-1967—including attempts to relocate Gazans to Jordan and Latin America. These strategies had limited success and ultimately failed to achieve their goals.

Observers now warn that the emerging policy amounts to large-scale forced displacement under military threat—raising serious concerns under international law.

    ⚡️BREAKING: Paramedics executed by Israel.

    Gaza Ministry of Health Statement:

We condemn the horrific crime committed by the Israeli occupation in targeting paramedics and medical teams from the Palestinian Red Crescent while they were carrying out their humanitarian duties in Rafah a week ago.

The bodies were found bound, with gunshot wounds to the chest, and buried in a deep pit to prevent identification.

We call on UN agencies, international bodies, and relevant authorities to conduct an immediate investigation into these crimes and hold the occupation accountable.

We stress the urgent need to protect medical teams and ensure their safe access to provide care, as guaranteed by international law.

    Palestinian Red Crescent Statement:

The Palestinian Red Crescent mourns the killing of eight of its paramedics in Rafah, targeted by Israeli forces while performing their humanitarian duty. They were en route to the Al-Hashashin area to provide first aid to those injured by Israeli strikes.

A ninth paramedic remains missing. Additionally, six Civil Defense personnel and one UN employee were recovered from the scene.

This massacre is not only a tragedy for the Red Crescent but a grave blow to humanitarian work and human dignity. The deliberate targeting of Red Crescent paramedics, identifiable by their protected international emblems, constitutes a war crime under international humanitarian law—law that Israel continues to violate openly, without accountability.

We demand justice for the victims and an immediate, independent investigation into this war crime, as well as the urgent clarification of the fate of the missing paramedic, As’ad Al-Nassasra, whose whereabouts remain unknown.

With these eight deaths, the total number of Red Crescent personnel killed in Gaza while carrying out humanitarian duties has risen to 27.

"Netanyahu’s statements that the goal of the war is to implement the Trump plan for displacement confirm unequivocally that we are facing an American-Zionist scheme linked to a displacement project. In the face of this diabolical plan that combines massacres and starvation, everyone who can bear arms anywhere in the world must act. Spare no bomb, a bullet, a knife, or a stone. Let everyone break their silence — we are all complicit if American and Zionist occupation interests remain safe while Gaza is being slaughtered and starved."
