This one made me laugh. Sometimes it is really hard to bite your tongue and not say this...

A.I. has entered the chat, and it ain’t pretty, though it does sound kind of pretty.

Responding to norman’s post #26 on the “All Instruments All The Time” thread, from 20 April 2024. Thank you Bill, for the mention of and link to “Making one’s own Musical Instruments”. And thanks to Mathew and Huckleberry and Mizo and Mike Gorman and Open Minded Dude, and norman.

Chose this thread as it seems to be what I’d consider the best thread here about what we like in songs. Started by looking for any songwriting thread, and alas, but I still think a dedicated one would be useful.

Below is what had me twig on Norman’s post, Rick Beato’s test of the waters. Something something marches on, but some things don’t change.

This is a far more fascinating listen than you might expect on this topic, from The Highwire. The 1st 10 minutes is about a new A.I. song writing software with a couple of shocking examples. The conversation keeps on building from there.

    I highly recommend this one.

Will These New AI Tools Make Songwriters Irrelevant In 2025?

“In this video, I explore how emerging AI-driven music tools are reshaping the songwriting landscape—both empowering creators and raising questions about authenticity and artistry.”

The comments on Rick’s vid are worth scanning, IMO. The few that I read, of the 2,500+, gave good perspectives on this.

    For example:

the average person won't be able to tell the difference. I think for musicians, it's obvious that the voice and instruments are synthetic. but it's close enough especially with everything auto tuned to hell these days. but I suppose that's the rub: AI is only spitting out what it has referenced and most of what is out there is poppy and auto-tuned to hell. Humans are doing it, my hope is that the market become so saturated with stuff that sounds so similar that it moves artists to take more risks that AI can't so easily copy.

I hope people will value human made art more and more and want to see people live ….etc. as a result of all the AI slop.

    Gives me hope.

Had an idea about writing a song,
set in the future, predicting what came along.

Could be a way to make money or friends,
might come in handy if trends keep looking wrong.

But you’d have to be pretty sure,
like don’t talk no flying cars.
    Stick to flighty flying saucers,
and drop hints of jumprooms to Mars.
