For the nth (?) time – recommended to the strong hearted among the lovers of real music:

to Pierre Boulez’ last version of his Dérive 2 for eleven instruments, performed by the Ensemble Intercontemporain, conducted by Boulez himself, a few weeks before his passing.

The absolute perfection of "his" musicians, the sobriety of his conducting, all hints understood... And the late masterwork – I compare it to Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations...

I watched this the other day and it keeps coming back to my mind. Music, to be "real" must be a living, breathing entity that grows with humanity. This young man, Josiah, challenged himself with a fusion of his two great loves; jazz and classical, in this case, Chopin. And the two men commenting are hearing through their own hearts, as well. It's like light glistening off the mountain.
