This has been a very long standing problem, back to 2014, likely to 2011. The admin who came closest to addressing this was Ilie Pandia, who added PHP code to try to make sure that a copy of the new post that was about to be lost due to some inscrutable error checking deep in the forum's vBulletin's bowels could be copied and saved, for another attempt at posting it. Likely Ilie had some understanding of what was getting disconnected in vBulletin's checking ... none of the rest of us have a clue so far as I know.

Myself and the other current admins are just starting (once again) to work on moving to a more recent vBulletin ... that's likely the only hope for addressing this problem. I started just now, once again, to make sense of vBulletin's internals that generate this error ... then soon realized I should get back to work on (1) seeing if I can protect the forum from the sort of attack we've experienced this week, and (2) getting on with the rather involved task(s) of migrating the forum to a newer source code base.

This has been a very long standing problem, back to 2014, likely to 2011.

Hair brained speculations:

It might be the case that you're accessing Avalon via multiple tabs or windows, that you are logged into Avalon in all those tabs or windows, but that vBulletin has some security token that it has placed in your browser's context for one of those tabs or windows that is not available or not the same in the other tab or window, but that vBulletin doesn't notice its missing or different security token until you try to submit a just completed post.

Or it might be that your work flow has you logging out and in of Avalon within the same window or tab and that this somehow confuses vBulletins management of the 'security token' it has secreted away in your browser's context for that window or tab.

In any case, unfortunately for yourself and others who have tripped over this bug, I have never experienced it myself. Had I done so, it might have raised my focus sufficiently to make some progress on it. However, since Ilie made only marginal progress on this bug, it is highly unlikely that I would have fixed it.
