The mysterious siege well discovered in 1998 at Chufut Kale, an ancient cave city in Crimea, located on a 580-meter plateau. Excavations by archaeologists and speleologists revealed a 50-meter deep well with a 120-meter stone gallery, a 30-meter spiral staircase, and a platform with an altar and fountains.

Historical records, including an 18th-century French traveler’s account, mention the well, whose location was lost until its rediscovery. The fortress, known as Kirk-Or ("40 fortresses") or Chufut Kale ("Jewish fortress"), was a key center for the Crimean Karaites, a Turkic-Jewish group, and served as a residence for Crimean Khans from the 15th to 16th centuries.

The city, inhabited since the 6th century by various ethnic groups like Alans and Karaites, was abandoned by the late 19th century. The well, possibly a sacred site rather than a practical water source, contained inscriptions in Latin, Aramaic, and proto-runes, and a treasure of gold and silver coins.

The site, blending natural caves and man-made structures, remains a tourist attraction, though its future archaeological exploration is uncertain due to political changes in Crimea.

In 2004, near Kazanlak, his team found a mid-5th-century BCE tomb with a gold mask, possibly of King Teres I, and treasures like armor, weapons, and 130 jewelry pieces. Another 2004 discovery was the intact tomb of King Seuthes III (290–275 BCE) at Goliamata Kosmatka, containing a golden wreath, kylix, bronze helmet, and a detailed bronze head of Seuthes, linked to Thracian Orphic rituals.

The tomb, the richest found, held 1 kg of gold and 90 artifacts, but only four teeth of Seuthes were found, leaving his fate a mystery. Seuthes III ruled Thrace under Macedonian dominance, rebelling unsuccessfully, and built the organized city of Seuthopolis. The report highlights Bulgaria’s archaeological wealth, Thrace’s harsh climate, and Kitov’s legacy, quoting his 2008 view on the importance of knowing the past.

Let's do some real-politics analysis:

- Natanz centrifuges likely evacuated after the initial failed Israeli strikes.
Then, this low hardened 20 year old facility was likely heavily damaged by the U.S. strike

- Isfahan above ground UCF plant was almost destroyed by Israeli and U.S. strikes

- Fordow enrichment plant remains almost certainly full intact

The results will be:

- Moving Natanz's evacuated IR-2M and IR-4 to the newly built Natanz highly hardened tunnel complex

- As Isfahan UCF is not critical for Iran's short-term enrichment. Over the long term, an underground replacement UCF plant will be built

- Evacuated IR-6 centrifuges from Natanz will replace IR-1 in intact Fordow site

In summary: The U.S. strike is the perfect pretext for a civilian nuclear program that is for historical events built into highly hardened tunnel complexes.
A hardened fissle material production chain used to be reserved for nuclear-weapon powers.

(Maybe Iran left the legacy IR-1 at Natanz for destruction to offer Trump a face-saving exit route during negotiations)
