    More on Chinese dwellings underground.

    Text:

Dikengyuan (地坑院) in Henan, China, features ancient underground courtyard homes carved into loess soil. Over 4,000 years old, these pit dwellings showcase harmony between humans and nature. A must-see cultural gem! 🏡✨#ChinaTravel #Henan #ChineseCulture

Tia to the “mountain sky ladder”

This is the Zhangjiajie Qixing Mountain Sky Ladder, also known as Tianti.

The ladder connects two cliffs, which spans 551 feet and is suspended 5000 feet above the ground and on a cold cloudy day, disappears into the mist.

Since it opened late 2024, over 1,200 people cross it daily, sometimes causing a people jam in midair!

At first I thought this was clickbait (the video image is silly and fake ). But it's actually quite a good video, all about China's progress and success in robotic moon exploration.

Fairly soon we may need a specialized Avalon thread about China and the Moon, as they're VERY likely to land men there again before the US does. Watch this happen somewhere in the 2027-29 window, with the US lagging behind.

I have been in Tibet for the last three days. It’s been an amazing experience - from visiting small villages and mountains to big city like Lhasa.

First, the Tibetan culture is enchanting and thriving - language, dress, architecture, art, food, dance, history, Buddhism and so on.

Of course, the Chinese infrastructure is impressive as usual. Public utilities like roads, highways, buildings, parks etc. are clean, well organized, and look pretty much like a developed nation.

No trash, graffiti, homeless people or drug addicts anywhere (not surprising in China).

Went to a Tibetan opera - Princess Wencheng - which should in the Guinness book of world records! Imagine 250 performers in three football stadiums in three dimensions on the base of a hill. Mind-boggling!

Some Tibetan architecture outside and inside

    Tibetan language everywhere

    https://x.com/Kanthan2030/status/1938102762228879560

Tibetan traditional clothes - and religious attire - are also very common.

Couldn’t take photos inside the Potala Palace and other temples, but Tibetan Buddhism is everywhere.

Lots of influence from India, of course.

But Tibetan Buddhism is unique and has some fascinating aspects of “Tantric” spiritualism! 😝

So, I went to this Tibetan restaurant in Lhasa and had an incredibly amazing dinner!

One of the exotic & delicious items was “yak cheese.”

    Potala Palace in Lhasa.

    This was built in 1645.

The first palace was built in the 7th century, but was destroyed over the centuries.

Too bad we couldn’t take photos inside. It was really amazing!

A friend of mine is a herbalist in the UK, and wanted to learn Chinese herbal medicine. She actually went to China to do that. (Wow!)

Part of the training she went through was to sit in a greenhouse with all the many different herbs, and then ask them what each one was for.

She'd do that telepathically, until she got some kind of an 'answer'. Then the Chinese herbal coach/trainer/master would tell her if she was correct or not.

In the end, she got pretty good at it, which was needed to pass the course and get the qualification.

Of course, this makes perfect sense. Thousands of years ago, e.g. in the Amazon rainforest when surrounded by about 50,000 different plant species, there's no way a small tribal family could figure out by trial and error what was a cure for a malady and what was a toxic spear-tip poison. They had to be told by the plants themselves.
