This is actually a symbol of witchcraft. Waning, waxing, and full moon with a five pointed star. The star represents earth, fire, water, air, and spirit. The moon is one representation of a higher power, usually a goddess [indeed, the sun is another representation of a god but not in this design]. Witchcraft is based in nature and is thought to be nearly 3,ooo years old.

The logical explanation for crop circles is they are man-made. You can use gps co-ordinates to make the designs. I was told once they use gps to make designs in baseball fields grassy areas but haven't really double checked it. But this design is certainly based on witchcraft. Since it is possibly the smallest spirituality group on the planet, I do not think aliens are sending a message to humanity.

This is a true story. I've never shared it before.

Back in the 90s, I was quite close to a 'noted figure' in Ufology. I visited his house, and he visited mine. He interviewed me multiple times about my abduction experiences. That's how we got to know each other. He was a UFO researcher and ran his own magazine. He held conferences and appeared on television, local and national, many times talking about UFOs and, prominently, crop circles, which were big news at the time. Over time, I came to count him as a friend. He wasn't super-famous, one of the big hitters, but still, I won't give his name.

A few years went by, and I heard from him less and less. He seemed to fade away. His name vanished from the UFO conversation. His magazine disappeared, and he wasn't on TV anymore. I wondered what had happened, where he went. I finally got word through a third party. He was still around, but had moved onto 'other ventures'. It was a long time before I got the full story, and even now I don't really have all of it, only pieces.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but 'they got to him'.

It went like this. He was approached with an offer, a lucrative one. By whom, I don't know, and I'm not sure he knew, either. What was that offer? Stop talking about what he was talking about. Close down his magazine and step down from his research. In return, he'd receive a handsome stipend. Open-ended. Set for life, in other words. Also, join a team they ran and organised. A team that operated in the middle of the night in fields in Wiltshire and Somerset. 'Making' crop circles. According to him -- and I got this through this third party who knew him better than I did, crop circles were real, but there was an effort underway to invalidate that reality by creating fake ones. The aim? To persuade the general public that they were all fake. This researcher, my once friend, basically took a chunk of cash -- a considerable chunk -- to join a team/project designed to discredit a mystery he had once worked so hard to investigate. He sold out (my take, to a counter-intelligence op). I never spoke to him again.

Who made the real ones, 'they' didn't know, and they didn't know how they were made, either. They had their own rather prosaic methods, effective ones nonetheless.

So there are fake crop circles, and quite possibly most of them are fake, but they are not made by jokers on a lark, it's a professional operation, skillfully managed and well-funded. They design their formations with mathematical precision. But they're nothing like the "real thing", which do exist, my once friend confirmed that through his connections. I believe it, I know it. I've walked in real crop circles and stood in them. The energy is quite out of this world.

At a glance (of a photograph), I wouldn't know which were fake and which weren't. The fakes are that good. I don't know if fake ones are still being made. The above story was the case some thirty years ago, and I don't know what he's doing now.

A lot of research has taken place over the years on crop circles. Curious changes have been observed at the compression point on the stems of wheat/barley, visible only at the molecular level. These changes are not present in 'physically crushed' stems. In real formations, the crop 'wilts' due to some kind of heat or radiation, not by stepping on it. I can't tell you much more than that, but many researchers are quite adamant it is a real phenomenon.

I've never been involved in crop circle research, but I have spoken to farmers who have had formations appear on their land. They also seem to know the difference between fake and real. I'm not sure how. Maybe it's an energy thing? If you lived in the UK, particularly in the south west, you'd know these crop up all the time (pun not intended), and have since the 1960s. They rarely make the news anymore though. The buzz over them has long since died down -- thanks in main to the fakers. But I still see them, real or fake.. I'll be driving along and bam, there's one right there in that's farmer's field! My personal belief: the real formations are energy sigils, imprinted into the earth by some external force or intelligence.

A crop circle in a field between Rothenfeld and Frieding has attracted numerous onlookers. Farmer Franz Zerhoch reacted quickly and was able to harvest his field with the circle relatively undisturbed. 13 years ago, it was considerably more difficult for his father, Georg.

Even before the impressive photos of the crop circle in Franz Zerhoch's wheat field were published on the relevant internet websites, the Frieding farmer already knew about it.

"I heard about it from a balloonist on Saturday," he reported in an interview with the Starnberger Merkur newspaper.

As the number of interested visitors, including those from outside the region, grew over the course of Tuesday, he decided on Wednesday to mow down the crop circle first and then gradually the rest of the field. A little bit is still standing, but once that has been harvested, the circle will no longer be recognizable.

Franz Zerhoch estimates that the crop circle, featuring a star and a bordering meander pattern, covers about half a hectare of the 12.6-hectare field. He didn't lose much because of the circle as he reacted quickly and harvested the area.

"The circular area alone produces around five tons of wheat. We were able to harvest about 95 percent of the circle," he reports. "After the mass influx on Wednesday, I wouldn't have been able to get the wheat off the ground."

Crop circles are considered in esoteric circles to be signs and messages from extraterrestrials. There are relevant websites, forums, and groups online. An English website was the first to report on the Andechs crop circle, including geocoordinates. A local Facebook group picked up on the news and also showed photos. The result: numerous interested people came to the field between Rothenfeld and Frieding.
