Putin Pals Say Trump’s Russia Threat Is Just an Epstein Smokescreen

Russian television pundits are mocking President Donald Trump’s threats to weigh in decisively on Ukraine, claiming that his new comments are a way to try and knock the Epstein scandal out of the news headlines.

Trump has backed a plan to send U.S. military equipment to NATO allies for possible use by Ukraine but the reaction from Russian TV has been largely sedate.

Aside from notorious state TV host Vladimir Solovyov, whose nuclear threats and temper tantrums are the stuff of legend—and who proposed to use the next 50 days “to set Europe on fire, “create hell on the territory of Ukraine” and “nuke America”—most pundits and experts saw the announcement as subterfuge.

Appearing on the state TV show, The Evening With Vladimir Solovyov, Professor Dmitry Evstafiev described Trump as a severely wounded boar hog, who is facing criticism from his own base for withholding the Epstein files—and desperately needs a distraction. Other pundits and experts expressed the same opinion.

The looming threat of Trump boosting the efforts of Senator Lindsey Graham and imposing hard-hitting sanctions against Russia is not being taken seriously. In particular, state TV experts repeatedly highlighted a video clip from the meeting between Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Malaysia last Thursday. When an unidentified journalist asked Rubio whether the Trump administration was planning to impose new sanctions against Russia, state media reported that Rubio did not respond to the journalist, but instead glanced at Lavrov and winked at him. Russian experts interpreted it as a confirmation that Russia will not face any meaningful U.S. sanctions in the foreseeable future.

Monday’s announcement from the U.S. president didn’t stray far from Moscow’s expectations.

During Monday’s broadcast of a state TV show, 60 Minutes, State Duma deputy Boris Chernyshov directly connected the refusal of the Trump administration to release the long-awaited Epstein files with Trump’s announcement of a major development pertaining to Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine. He said: “A sense of innuendo is growing in American society, there is a growing feeling that they have been deceived by the most honest, the best, the most beautiful, the biggest president in the history of the United States.”

The footage of Trump partying with Epstein was playing on a jumbotron, as Chernyshov explained, “American voters are totally displeased, because [Trump] is deceiving them right now.” Chernyshov said that the U.S. president’s “big announcement” about Russia and Ukraine was designed “to create a smokescreen” and push aside the topic of the Epstein files.

Over the weekend, the revelation about the U.S. selling Patriot systems to European nations, so they can be ultimately delivered to Ukraine, was already made public. While this development wasn’t welcomed in Russia, experts and pundits argued that it wouldn’t make any difference, since these are defensive weapons and Moscow is more concerned with Ukraine’s ability to launch long-range strikes deep within Russia. They predicted that Europe wouldn’t be able to procure and deliver arms to Ukraine in an expedited and efficient way that would have a major impact during Russia’s ongoing summer offensive.

Hence, the only real news in Trump’s announcement was limited to giving Putin 50 more days to change his ways. Notably, it was previously reported by Axios that during a phone call with Trump on July 3, “Putin indicated that over the next 60 days he would make a renewed push to occupy territory up to the administrative lines of the Ukrainian regions in which Russia has a significant foothold.” Shortly after the call, Trump spoke with French President Emmanuel Macron and reportedly told him, “He [Putin] wants to take all of it.”

Therefore, Trump’s delay of any punitive actions that would undermine Russia’s struggling economy by 50 days was precisely in line with Putin’s current plans. Host of 60 Minutes Olga Skabeeva noted: “Nothing frightening is happening. What’s taking place is what Putin and Trump agreed to during their phone call... We can preliminarily surmise that—if we are to believe Axios—Putin promised to liberate four regions by the end of summer and said that we won’t go further than that. Trump is fine with it, according to what he just uttered.”

Skabeeva surmised Trump’s statement to mean there won’t be a 500 percent tariff against Russian exports and no new sanctions anytime soon. She incredulously questioned whether this lackluster development was really the much-anticipated announcement the U.S. president has been teasing in prior days. Skabeeva couldn’t stop giggling in-between the clips of Trump’s statements, which she described as “bipolar statements from Washington.” She said that there is not a single European country that can immediately deliver 17 Patriot systems to Ukraine, as Trump just promised.

State Duma deputy Leonid Kalashnikov said: “Ukraine, Trump is lying to you.” Addressing the U.S. president, Kalashnikov mockingly added: “Trump is always exclaiming that if he was president, this war would have never happened. So what is preventing you from stopping it now? Go ahead and do it.”

Forgive my conspiratorially overactive brain, but there could be an alternative explanation for this seeming 180 on the Epstein files.

In the video above on the tarmac Trump says 'Credible information, let them give it...' (my emphasis on the 'credible'). He also said in another clip I saw that the Epstein files were written by Obama, et al. Does this mean the files they have are ALL FAKE? Before Trump took office, did the deep state destroy the real Epstein data and replace it with a fake substitute, naming fake victims in fake events with demonstrably fake evidence? If that were true, I would understand why Trump would blow it all off, even cover it up. A fake case file would be extremely damaging, because nothing would be legally admissible, and the defendants would walk off scot-free.

Is he holding out until they uncover the real Epstein file?

I hesitated to write this however, with the utmost respect and deference to you for all you’ve withstood (few know it better than me what the “deep state” can do when they want to turn on a person). The EPSTEIN AFFAIR is NOT about who killed him or if he committed suicide—personally, I’m glad this known pedophile is dead.

But neither is this a hoax.

This issue goes beyond all that. There are millions of Americans who overwhelmingly voted for you to be OUR President, and we want you to be massively successful. No one more than me. Personally, I still have a target on my forehead. I know that but, like you, I still fight.

Beyond all that, OUR country is facing a level of internal subversion and it is a relentless attack on the very foundation of our constitutional republic. If you’re not successful, our country may not survive. It is that extreme of a situation we currently face. Read Lincoln’s Lyceum speech of 1838. He knew, as you know (and as we all can see with our very eyes), our nation will not die from a foreign foe, NEVER, if we die, it will be by our own suicide.

There is an ongoing undermining by subversive elements inside and outside the USG. That is the essence of the deep state.

All we want at this stage is for a modicum of trust to be reestablished between our federal government and the people it is designed to serve. That’s all (PERIOD!).

An element that is of great importance surrounding this Epstein affair is the fact this man was a known pedophile, had a list of clients who represented the upper crust of society, and likely did untoward things to CHILDREN on his island, in his homes in NYC, and New Mexico (and maybe elsewhere). He was convicted of it.

Regardless of what class of society abuses and commits crimes against CHILDREN, it is NEVER acceptable.

This is where this argument went off the rails. It is NOT about Epstein or the left. It is about committing crimes against CHILDREN. If he were part of an intel operation known or run by our CIA (shame on them) and those responsible MUST be held accountable. If there is another country involved, then shame on them as well. If there are elites inside of our country that committed crimes against CHILDREN (shame on them) and they MUST be held ACCOUNTABLE.

Few know how many crystal balls you juggle on a daily basis (I do). And I know you cannot drop any of them.

With my strongest recommendation, please gather your team and figure out a way to move past this. The roll out of this was terrible, no way around that. Americans want America to be successful, therefore, WE NEED YOU TO BE SUCCESSFUL.

Please take this missive as though coming from someone who willingly and voluntarily fought for this country against multiple enemies overseas only to come home to face my greatest enemy right here at home. You know precisely what I mean.

God bless you and may God continue to protect you from the dark forces that do exist. I believe you were put on this earth for such a time as this.

If Trump handled this with humility and respect for those asking basic questions about a case that — rightly or wrongly — has explosive implications, this would be handled so much better.

You can’t just wave your hand and say “there’s nothing there, and if you keep asking questions, you’re not really a supporter.” This message is tone-deaf and fundamentally un-American.

There are limits to “charismatic authority,” as I predicted long ago, and it does not override rational-legal authority.

We are Americans, not cult followers, by nature. Trump has been a brave and successful leader on many issues, but this is not one of them.

In the final analysis, the American people should not accept a government run by elites “for our own good.”
