Poking the bear even more,

🇦🇿🇷🇺 Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev lashes out at Russia for the shooting of the AZAL plane back in December 2024:

Seven months after the plane crash, we’ve received no response from Russian officials. Yet everything is clear—we know what happened, and so do they.

All we ask is simple: take responsibility, punish those involved, and compensate the victims and AZAL.

Our team found the plane riddled with shrapnel holes. Claims that a Ukrainian drone was responsible are absurd.

The aircraft was hit twice, and Russian airspace wasn’t closed until minutes after.

Despite repeated letters, Russia says only that “the investigation is ongoing.”

We’re now preparing to take the case to international court. It may take years—but justice must be done.

Yesterday, Azerbaijan demolished a statue of the great Russian painter Ivan Aivazovksy.

Today it warned that if "anti-Azeri" statements would continue, it's "not impossible" that Baku would reconsider existence of Russian-language schools, media and theater performances.

Go down this road, and the replacement statue will be of Zelensky playing the piano.

🇷🇺🇦🇿🇺🇦 Russia has made its position on arms deliveries to Ukraine clear to Azerbaijan, warning that such moves will only escalate the situation, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

The statement came in response to reports that Baku might lift its embargo on supplying weapons to Kiev if Russian forces continue targeting Azerbaijani gas facilities located in Ukraine.

🇷🇺🇺🇦🇦🇿 BREAKING!! RUSSIA STRIKES AZERBAIJANI (ISRAELI) OIL ASSETS IN ODESSA!!

Russian Geran-2 drones have struck the Usatovo area in Ukraine’s Odessa region, targeting both a rail station and a fuel terminal operated by SOCAR, Azerbaijan’s state oil company.

This follows a similar Russian strike on August 6, when a SOCAR oil depot in Orlivka was hit, injuring employees and damaging the facility.

🛢️ SOCAR operates energy infrastructure across Ukraine, including terminals and logistics hubs. These repeated strikes have raised alarms in Baku.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev condemned the attacks and warned that Azerbaijan may reconsider its ban on supplying weapons to Ukraine if Russian strikes on Azerbaijani-linked energy sites continue.

These incidents come amid sharply rising tensions between Moscow and Baku, with SOCAR’s presence in Ukraine becoming an unexpected flashpoint in the broader conflict.

🇦🇿🇷🇺 Aliyev Blames Russia for Deteriorating Ties

President Aliyev of Azerbaijan has publicly laid the blame squarely at Russia’s doorstep, declaring that Baku has acted “constructively and legally,” while it’s Moscow’s behavior that has soured relations.

His grievances center on the December 2024 AZAL plane crash; he says Azerbaijan issued apologies for Russia shooting down a helicopter in 2020, but never received an apology in return.

He also condemned recent deaths of Azerbaijani nationals in Russia, officially attributed to heart attacks. Aliyev dismissed that explanation as unacceptable, saying:

“Even if they committed a crime 20 years ago, they are still people. We cannot be treated like this.”

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has stated that Soviet rule occupied Azerbaijan.

This statement was made during an interview with the head of state for "Al Arabiya."

According to Aliyev, due to the country's entry into the Soviet Union, Azerbaijani territory was divided into two parts, and the Bolsheviks, who carried out the 1917 revolution, "deceived the people." "We created our own state. But the Bolsheviks took it from us," said Ilham Aliyev.

"In April 1920, the Russian army invaded and occupied Azerbaijan. In November of the same year, just a few months later, the government of Soviet Russia decided to take Zangezur, which we call Western Zangezur, from Azerbaijan and hand it over to Armenia. This is how Azerbaijan was split in two — into the main part and Nakhchivan, with Western Zangezur located between them," Aliyev added.
