Vaccination Rates Hit Record-Breaking Low for Third Year in a Row as Religious Exemptions Reach Record High

"In a statement released Thursday on vaccination rates, the CDC said, “The decision to vaccinate is a personal one. Parents should consult their health care providers on options for their families.” The 2024-2025 school year was the third record-breaking year in a row for the exemption rate, according to The Associated Press.

Vaccination rates for U.S. kindergartners decreased last year while the percentage of children granted religious exemptions from school immunization requirements reached a record high, according to data released Thursday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The rate for the diphtheria, tetanus and acellular pertussis (DTaP) vaccine was 92.1% during the 2024-2025 school year, compared to 92.3% in the 2023-2024 school year. For the 2019-2020 school year, which was pre-COVID-19, it was 94.9%.

For the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) and polio vaccines, the rate was 92.5% in 2024-2025, down from 92.7% in 2023-2024 and from 95.2% in 2019-2020.

As vaccination rates have decreased, the percentage of students with nonmedical exemptions — including religious or philosophical exemptions — has increased. The number rose from 3.3% during the 2023-2024 school year to 3.6% in 2024-2025.

According to The Associated Press (AP), the 2024-2025 school year was “the third record-breaking year in a row for the exemption rate.” The percentage of students with medical exemptions has remained around 0.2% in recent years.

In a statement quoted by the AP, the CDC stated:

“The decision to vaccinate is a personal one. Parents should consult their health care providers on options for their families …

“Vaccination remains the most effective way to protect children from serious diseases like measles and whooping cough, which can lead to hospitalization and long-term health complications.”

Religious exemptions increased in 36 states over the past year

According to the AP, public health officials focus on kindergarten vaccination rates “because schools can be cauldrons for germs and launching pads for community outbreaks.”

Vaccination rates remained high for years due to school immunization mandates, but are influenced by “policies that make it harder or easier to obtain exemptions.”

Only four states — California, Maine, New York and Connecticut — prohibit religious or philosophical exemptions to school vaccine mandates. All other states offer a religious or personal exemption to public school vaccine requirements.

In West Virginia, state law doesn’t acknowledge religious exemptions. However, in January, Gov. Patrick Morrisey issued an executive order that allows parents to request religious exemptions for their children. The order triggered several lawsuits.

According to CDC figures, the percentage of kindergartners with religious exemptions increased in 36 states and the District of Columbia, and exceeds 5% in 17 states, led by Idaho (15.4%), Utah (10.3%), Oregon (9.8%), Alaska (9.4%) and Arizona (9.1%).

The AP attributed rising exemption rates to “local attitudes among families and doctors about the need to get children vaccinated” and online “misinformation and the political divide that emerged around COVID-19 vaccines.”

But according to John Gilmore, executive director of the Autism Action Network:

“Parents are being far more judicious about vaccines now. Everybody knows someone who was injured by the COVID-19 shot. COVID-19 taught everybody that the vaccine industry will blatantly lie to persuade people to use their products, and if they can’t persuade you, they will use coercion.”

Children’s Health Defense is a plaintiff in an antitrust lawsuit against the Trusted News Initiative — a partnership formed by the AP, Reuters, The Washington Post, BBC and other legacy media — alleging it engaged in anticompetitive practices and colluded with tech platforms to censor alternative viewpoints on COVID-19.

Last month, the U.S. Department of Justice filed a statement of interest backing the plaintiffs in the case.

Gilmore said the growing popularity of alternative media helps spread information about vaccine risks and exemptions, leading more parents to opt out of vaccinating their children.

“There has also been enormous growth in media that do not accept advertising from the vaccine cartel that will publish vaccine-critical information, unlike the legacy media,” he said.

Gilmore also said the expansion of the childhood immunization schedule — which has added 26 doses since 2015 — has led more parents to question the recommendations.

CDC figures don’t include kids who are unvaccinated because they’re homeschooled

The true percentage of unvaccinated children may be higher than the CDC data shows, in part because of the growing number of homeschooled children in the U.S., Gilmore said.

“These numbers only include a very small portion of homeschoolers who are now, after explosive growth during COVID, about 7% of all school-age children, and credible sources estimate about half of these children are not compliant with the CDC schedule,” he said.

Gilmore also said the influx of undocumented immigrant children in recent years has likely increased the total number of unvaccinated students. He said:

“Beginning in 2021, we saw an influx of more than one million undocumented immigrant children. Many of them had unknown vaccination status. In New York and other states, undocumented immigrant children are allowed to enroll in school regardless of their vaccination status.”

Did lower vaccination rates cause measles outbreak?

The AP reported that the CDC traditionally publishes kindergarten vaccination and vaccine exemption figures alongside a write-up stressing “the importance of vaccinations” and analyzing the past year’s vaccination trends. That write-up was not included this year.

The AP said of the CDC report:

“The wording is more ambivalent about the importance of vaccinations than in the past. That is in keeping with communications from U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a leading voice in the anti-vaccine movement before President Donald Trump put him in charge of federal health agencies.”

According to the AP, the lower vaccination rates for kindergarteners and higher rate of religious exemptions come “as the U.S. experiences its worst year for measles spread in more than three decades, with more than 1,300 cases so far.”

But for research scientist and author James Lyons-Weiler, Ph.D., this narrative is based on “a dangerously outdated and scientifically inaccurate portrayal of measles transmission by framing the unvaccinated as the sole source of outbreaks.”

“Measles outbreaks have occurred in populations with 90-95% coverage repeatedly in recent history, due to clustering, waning immunity and birth cohort dynamics,” Lyons-Weiler said.

“In truth, outbreaks today are complex phenomena, driven by multiple factors — including under-diagnosis, waning immunity and a failure to update the MMR vaccine. Unvaccinated children did not create this problem,” Lyons-Weiler said.

Public support for religious and medical exemptions climbs

A poll of over 1,000 registered voters conducted June 24-25 by John Zogby Strategies showed that 60% of parents with young children supported reviewing the current childhood vaccine schedule.

Findings published last month in JAMA Network Open showed 60% of pregnant women and young mothers are considering delaying or refusing routine vaccinations for their children.

A study funded by the National Institutes of Health and published in the journal Vaccine in February found that 74% of elementary school personnel surveyed in California did not believe their schools had the authority to deny medical exemptions and that a majority opposed COVID-19 mandates.

A survey conducted by the Annenberg Public Policy Center in January showed public support for religious exemptions has nearly doubled in the last six years.

A July 2024 Gallup poll found that support for mandatory school vaccination has declined in recent years.

These results come amid growing institutional opposition to religious exemptions.

In a policy statement published earlier this week, the American Academy of Pediatrics called for an end to religious and philosophical vaccine exemptions for children attending daycare and school in the U.S.

Last month, NBC News reported that “vaccinations rise when states button up religious loopholes,” citing the examples of California and Maine."

Chinese officials have imposed Covid-like quarantines in parts of the country as cases of chikungunya virus continue to surge.

More than 7,000 infections have been reported in the southern city of Foshan, in Guangdong province, prompting authorities to isolate patients in hospital wards covered with mosquito nets.

They are required to remain there for a week or until they test negative, if sooner.

No deaths have yet been reported.

The US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level 2 travel advisory for Guangdong Province, urging Americans to take extra precautions when visiting the region.

Travelers are advised to wear insect repellent, cover up with long clothing, and stay in air-conditioned or screened accommodation to avoid mosquito bites.

At least 12 other cities in Guangdong have reported infections, with about 3,000 cases being reported over the past week, bringing the total to over 10,000 in the country.

Those experiencing fevers, joint pain or rashes are being asked to visit the nearest hospital so they can be tested for the virus.

Additionally, officials had ordered travelers from Foshan to undergo a 14-day home quarantine, similar to Covid restrictions, but that has since been withdrawn.

Hong Kong this week confirmed its first case of the virus: a 12-year-old boy developed a fever, rash and joint pain after visiting Foshan in July.

Three British men have appeared in court in Croatia charged with the gang rape of a local woman at a popular holiday resort.

Ami Arifi, 29, Gezhim Xhafa, 28, and Sohqib Shakibi, 24, appeared before an investigating judge on Thursday.

The men have all been remanded in custody pending further investigations into the incident which happened on Tuesday in the port of Split.

Police said the 28-year-old woman, who is local, was the victim of a planned attack and the men, who are all from London, face up to ten years in jail if convicted.

One of the suspects is said to have offered a bail of 30 thousand euros, but it was not accepted.

The suspects met the woman that same evening on Matejuška, the popular waterfront in Split and popular with tourists and locals.

She is said to have taken a ride on a motorbike with one of them, then accepted their invitation to go to their four star hotel room at around 5.30 in the morning.

According to local media, the first defendant insulted and swore at her, bit her lips and touched her private parts.

CCP Launches Chikungunya Virus Testing in Foshan, Sparking Fears of Lockdown

"The U.S. CDC said it is considering issuing a travel notice for China as the Chikungunya virus outbreak continues its rapid spread.
As the Chikungunya fever outbreak has continued to spread in Guangdong province, Chinese authorities have adopted similar control measures to how they handled the COVID-19 pandemic, triggering public fear of a return of city wide lockdowns.

As of July 31, the total number of officially confirmed cases of Chikungunya fever reported in Foshan City, Guangdong Province, reached more than 6,000, according to Chinese state media. The first case was reported on July 8. On Aug. 1, Foshan authorities reported 333 newly confirmed cases in one day.

Chikungunya fever is a viral disease mainly transmitted to humans by mosquitoes. Its symptoms are similar to dengue fever. Patients usually experience fever, severe joint pain, muscle pain, headache, fatigue, and rash.

There is no specific antiviral treatment for Chikungunya. Deaths from the disease are rare but do occur, especially among vulnerable populations such as those with underlying health conditions.

Meanwhile, confirmed cases have also been reported in more than 10 cities in Guangdong Province, according to Guangdong Provincial Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

On July 31, the Department of Medical Emergency Response of the Chinese regime’s National Health Commission issued an urgent nationwide notice for diagnosis and treatment plans for the Chikungunya fever outbreak.

In the notice, the central authorities said there is currently no Chikungunya virus vaccine available in China. They said that “quarantine measures must be taken” for suspected and confirmed cases.

Meanwhile, local authorities in Foshan City, which is hardest-hit by Chikungunya fever, initiated a Level III public health emergency response on July 29.

In China, the official response levels are divided into four levels: Level I (extremely serious), Level II (serious), Level III (major), and Level IV (general).

Residents in Foshan City told local media that they had received an official notice that Chikungunya virus PCR screening would be conducted as part of a three day mass testing effort from July 29 to 31.

On July 30, the Shabian Village Residents Committee of Lecong Town in Shunde district, Foshan, told local media that the whole town had received notice of mass PCR screening for the Chikungunya virus for July 29 to July 31.

Videos circulating on social media showed Guangdong residents lining up for PCR testing, and epidemic prevention personnel fumigating the city to kill mosquitoes.

Spreading Outside Guangdong
The Chikungunya outbreak had spread to Macau and Beijing a few days earlier, according to local health authorities.
On July 29, health authorities in Fuzhou City, Fujian Province in southeast China, posted an alert on their WeChat public account about Chikungunya fever and dengue fever, requiring that “people returning from Foshan must monitor their health for 14 days at home.”

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said it was monitoring the Chikungunya fever situation in China.

“CDC is aware of the reported chikungunya outbreak in Guangdong Province in China and is currently assessing the size and extent of the outbreak,” a CDC spokesperson told Bloomberg News. The agency said it is considering a travel warning to China.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) has raised concerns of another Chikungunya virus epidemic. The WHO said it was noticing the exact same early warning signs as were seen before a major outbreak two decades ago that infected more than 5 million people. That epidemic started in Kenya and spread to countries primarily in the Indian Ocean region, and South and Southeast Asia, and later, parts of tropical and subtropical Europe and the Americas.

“We are calling for urgent action to prevent history from repeating itself. There is no particular treatment for Chikungunya, so people need to avoid mosquito bites,” Dr. Diana Rojas Alvarez, a medical officer at the WHO, told reporters on July 22.

Chikungunya fever can spread rapidly. “Based on the life habits of the Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, its vector, and the virus’s activity in both humans and mosquitoes, it is estimated that in a community with a high Aedes aegypti population, a single infected person could transmit the virus to over 2,400 people through mosquito bites within 30 days,” Dr. Cheng Yuan-yu, attending physician at Shang-wen Clinic in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, who specializes in infectious diseases, told The Epoch Times on Aug. 2.

If the epidemic continues to worsen, there’s a high chance that countries will issue travel warnings, Cheng said. However, “travel bans are unlikely, as this is a disease with a low mortality rate and a low severe case rate,” he said.

“Prevention measures primarily involve monitoring and tracking incoming travelers for symptoms, particularly body temperature,” he added.

Sean Lin, assistant professor in the Biomedical Science Department at Feitian College and former U.S. army microbiologist, shared a similar assessment, saying he doesn’t think travel bans will be necessary.

He said “there is no need” for the Chinese regime to impose quarantines “because the virus isn’t transmitted from person to person but rather through mosquitoes.”

“Local authorities can generally control the epidemic by implementing mosquito control campaigns and maintaining good hygiene,” Lin told The Epoch Times on Aug. 2.

This outbreak in China is likely “related to changes in the local mosquito population and their adaptability to the virus,” Lin said, noting that “the Chinese government hasn’t been able to produce a timely research report on this.”

He added that some people who are infected by Chikungunya virus are at risk of long-term joint pain.

CCP’s Mandatory Measures Sparking Fear
Many Chinese citizens have been sharing their experiences on the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) Chikungunya control measures on social media. Some fear that the draconian lockdown measures that the CCP employed during the three-year COVID-19 pandemic may come back.
A Foshan resident infected with Chikungunya virus posted a video on social media claiming they were not being allowed to leave after having a blood test at Longjiang Hospital in Shunde.

Another resident said in a video post that he has been in forced quarantine in a hospital for four days, and was being monitored by medical staff 24 hours a day. The video showed security guards at the quarantine site.

Others commented on social media about Foshan’s mass testing and “long lines,” reminiscent of the long testing lines for COVID-19 during the pandemic.

“Do we need to be quarantined? Will they lock down the city?” another post read. “No way! Why do we have to wear masks every day again?” another comment read.

On July 29, CCP officials held a national video and telephone conference in Beijing on Chikungunya fever prevention and control, including launching a mosquito eradication campaign. A video on social media showed the Foshan government deploying a large number of armed police officers to “exterminate mosquitoes.”

A Chinese citizen commented on the video, “The armed police has even been deployed. This feels a bit serious.”

Another comment read, ”Are they planning to lock down Foshan and Shunde?”

I agree with you about the Croatian story, but I think the story about another Chinese-origin virus that has infected more than 10,000 people in such a short period warrants scrutiny. Anyone paying attention knows that the Chinese are manipulating viruses. This is reason for concern all over the world, but the mainstream media is treating this very fast virus outbreak with kid gloves, and we all know that the World Health Organization showed its allegiance to China during COVID. I chose to post the Daily Mail's story because I thought the headline was more appropriate.

RFK Jr cancels $500m in funding for mRNA vaccines for diseases like Covid



The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) plans to cancel $500m (£376m) in funding for mRNA vaccines being developed to counter viruses that cause diseases such as the flu and Covid-19.

That will impact 22 projects being led by major pharmaceutical companies, including Pfizer and Moderna, for vaccines against bird flu and other viruses, HHS said.

Health Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr, a vaccine sceptic, announced he was pulling the funding over claims that "mRNA technology poses more risks than benefits for these respiratory viruses".

Doctors and health experts have criticised Kennedy's longstanding questioning of the safety and efficacy of vaccines and his views on health policies.

The development of mRNA vaccines to target Covid-19 was critical in helping slow down the pandemic and saving millions of lives, said Peter Lurie, a former US Food and Drug Administration official.

He told the BBC that the change was the US "turning its back on one of the most promising tools to fight the next pandemic".

In a statement, Kennedy said his team had "reviewed the science, listened to the experts, and acted". "[T]he data show these vaccines fail to protect effectively against upper respiratory infections like COVID and flu," he said.

He said the department was shifting the funding toward "safer, broader vaccine platforms that remain effective even as viruses mutate".

Kennedy also claimed that mRNA vaccines can help "encourage new mutations and can actually prolong pandemics as the virus constantly mutates to escape the protective effects of the vaccine".

Health experts have said that viruses mutate regardless of whether vaccines exist for them.

This was true every year for the flu virus, for example, said Dr Paul Offit, the director of the Vaccine Education Center at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

Dr Offit said mRNA vaccines were "remarkably safe" and a key to helping prevent against severe infections from viruses like Covid-19.

HHS said the department that runs the vaccine projects, Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), would focus on "platforms with stronger safety records and transparent clinical and manufacturing data practices".

While some vaccines use an inactivated virus to trigger an immune response, mRNA vaccines work by teaching cells how to make proteins that can trigger an immune response. Moderna and Pfizer's mRNA vaccines were tested in thousands of people before being rolled out and were found to be safe and effective.

Dr Offit, who invented the rotavirus vaccine, said the funding cancellation could put the US in a "more dangerous" position to respond to any potential future pandemic. He noted mRNA vaccines have a shorter development cycle, which is why they were crucial to responding to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Since taking office, Kennedy has taken a number of steps to transform how the nation's health department develops and regulates vaccines.

Agree with you rgray222. They're pushing both another pandemic as well as anything to take the heat off the other hot topics at the moment. But this rag is propaganda on steroids.

I agree with you about the Croatian story, but I think the story about another Chinese-origin virus that has infected more than 10,000 people in such a short period warrants scrutiny. Anyone paying attention knows that the Chinese are manipulating viruses. This is reason for concern all over the world, but the mainstream media is treating this very fast virus outbreak with kid gloves, and we all know that the World Health Organization showed its allegiance to China during COVID. I chose to post the Daily Mail's story because I thought the headline was more appropriate.

Spanish Town Bans Muslim Festivals In Public Spaces As Anti-Islamification Movement Gains Momentum



The Islamification of the West continues unchecked. Millions of third-worlders have been funneled into Western nations, especially France, Spain, Ireland, England, and Germany. Globalist rulers in Brussels have remained silent about the intentional invasion, while anyone voicing concern is immediately thrown into the state-run government censorship gauntlet and labeled a "racist."

It comes as no surprise that Brussels' failed open-borders experiment since 2015, flooding Europe with millions of migrants, asylum seekers, and refugees from countries such as Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan, has sparked not only a deepening identity crisis for Europe, but also fueled a powerful resurgence of nationalism across the continent.

The latest example comes from the small Spanish town of Jumilla, where the local nationalist party Vox enacted the country's first ban on Muslim use of public spaces (sports halls, civic centres) for activities "alien to our identity" unless organized by the council, effectively blocking Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha gatherings.

The local Vox party posted on X: "Thanks to Vox, the first measure to ban Islamic festivals in Spain's public spaces has been passed. Spain is and will be forever the land of Christian people."

Vox spokesperson Alba Franco told the Qatari-owned pro-Arab news outlet The New Arab that Muslim practices are linked to "insecurity" and warned of the "Islamisation" of communities.

For some context, Jumilla was once part of the Roman Empire and fell to Berber and Arab forces in the eighth century and remained predominantly Arab for centuries, until Christian troops under Alfonso X of Castile seized the land in the mid-13th century.

Last month, anti-migrant protests unfolded in Murcia, about an hour away from Jumilla, after locals were infuriated with reports that third-worlders from North Africa had attacked an elderly pensioner.

Walid Habbal, coordinator of the Islamic Commission of Murcia, told New Arab that Vox's move "is a step backwards. It has left the Muslim community in shock. We don't see it just as a political attack, but as a lack of respect."

European dockworkers block arms shipments to Israel



GENOA, Italy—Italian dockworkers successfully blocked shipments of military cargo bound for Israel to be used in their genocidal war against Palestine. The Unione Sindacale di Base (USB), along with their union siblings from the All-Workers Militant Front (PAME) in Greece, held demonstrations and refused to unload cargo at their ports as the ship made its way through the region.

The USB declared victory last week when COSCO Shipping Pisces agreed to return three containers of military equipment to Singapore, their point of origin. The ship agreed that they will not unload at either the ports of Genoa or La Spezia. The decision came after the union announced a 24-hour strike for August 5 at the PSA Genova Pra’ terminal.

The USB produced a manifesto, “Labor Rejects War,” signed by dozens of associations, jurists, constitutional scholars, and peace movement leaders. They affirm that military operations are not among the essential services protected by Italian law.

“We will not work for war,” the USB stated, invoking Italy’s Law 146/1990, which bans arms exports to conflict zones. “War operations are not essential services, and a strike is legitimate if it serves to defend collective security and constitutional order,” the union said. “Stopping arms is not just a political choice, it is a right.”

The union has since organized an international dockworker assembly to be held on September 26-27 in Genoa to coordinate further actions, including preparing for a sector-wide strike if necessary.

Earlier on its voyage, the ship was met with protests by Greek dockworkers in Piraeus, organized by the ENEDEP dockworkers union and PAME, before it reached Genoa. They called on mass demonstrations to prevent the unloading of the military-grade steel on the ship Ever Golden headed for Israel. The Communist Party of Greece (KKE) reported that the contents of the ship were loaded onto the COSCO Shipping Pisces which was then blocked in Italy.

“This is a clear example of how workers around the world can express practical solidarity with people resisting the imperialists’ unjust wars, of how they can strengthen their struggle as a united front against the merchants of war,” the PAME declared.

These workers’ actions continue a growing movement of port workers refusing to handle arms shipments to be used in Israel’s genocidal war on the Palestinian people. These actions build on several years of labor organizing against war and the supplying of weapons to Israel, dating back to the start of the war in 2023.

In France, workers at the port in Fos-sur-Mer near Marseille, led by the General Confederation of Labor (CGT), refused to load 14 tons of weapons components destined for Israel Military Industries, a subsidiary of Elbit Systems in June. The CGT said the move made clear its refusal to “participate in the ongoing genocide orchestrated by the Israeli government.”

“We are very proud of this action led by our comrades, and which is part of the CGT’s long internationalist tradition for peace,” CGT General Secretary Sophie Binet said.

The class-struggle powered World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) has publicly endorsed these workplace actions. But the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) has remained silent. This, of course, highlights an ongoing divide within the labor movement over the role of trade unions and their relationship to questions of imperialism and war.

“The only force that can stop this painful course and put an end on imperialist and Zionist aggression is the reaction and resistance of the peoples with the working class in the front line,” the WFTU declared. “The WFTU has from the very first moment clearly and unequivocally condemned the aggression of the murderous Israeli state.”

“We are proud that under the banners of our Federation millions of workers around the world have mobilized and are mobilizing in solidarity with the people of Palestine for a free Palestine and an independent Palestinian state,” the federation said.

“For the progressive, anti-imperialist forces in the world today it is an urgent duty to defend the life and benefits of the people, the peace threatened by imperialist aggression.”
