    Tom Lehrer was a true genius. This song of his, one of dozens all equally clever (and many as deeply satirical as this one!) may be a little fitting here.

    (...though this song, maybe his darkest piece of comedy, was about nuclear war and not his own funeral. )

    We Will All Go Together When We Go

    When you attend a funeral,
    It is sad to think that sooner or
    Later those you love will do the same for you.
    And you may have thought it tragic,
    Not to mention other adjec-
    tives, to think of all the weeping they will do.
    But don't you worry.
    No more ashes, no more sackcloth.
    And an armband made of black cloth
    Will some day never more adorn a sleeve.
    For if the bomb that drops on you
    Gets your friends and neighbors too,
    There'll be nobody left behind to grieve.

    And we will all go together when we go.
    What a comforting fact that is to know.
    Universal bereavement,
    An inspiring achievement,
    Yes, we all will go together when we go.

    We will all go together when we go.
    All suffuse with an incandescent glow.
    No-one will have the endurance
    To collect on his insurance,
    Lloyd's of London will be loaded when they go.

    We will all fry together when we fry.
    We'll be french fried potatoes by and by.
    There will be no more misery
    When the world is our rotisserie,
    Yes, we will all fry together when we fry.

    We will all bake together when we bake.
    There'll be nobody present at the wake.
    With complete participation
    In that grand incineration,
    Nearly three billion hunks of well-done steak.

    We will all char together when we char.
    And let there be no moaning of the bar.
    Just sing out a te deum
    When you see that ICBM,
    And the party will be "come as you are."

    Oh we will all burn together when we burn.
    There'll be no need to stand and wait your turn.
    When it's time for the fallout
    And Saint Peter calls us all out,
    We'll just drop our agendas and adjourn.

    We will all go together when we go.
    Every Hottenhot and every Eskimo.
    When the air becomes uranious,
    We will all go simultaneous.
    Yes we all will go together
    When we all go together,
    Yes we all will go together when we go.

    Yes, this sad event has been all over the mountaineering websites. Here's a better photo:

    And it seems she was killed instantly by the rockfall. No helicopter could reach her body because of the weather, but it had been Laura’s written will that, in a case like this, no-one should risk their lives to rescue her. Her wish in such a case was for her body to be left on the mountain. Her relatives also asked to respect Laura’s last wish.

    And, as an immense testimony to her skill and courage, this was the fearsomely sculpted Laila Peak, which she had successfully climbed with her friend Marina Krauss before encountering the rockfall on the descent.

    Robert "Bob" Schrupp passed away peacefully on Wednesday 6th August 2025.

    You may recall the great team of Bob & Brad, two physical therapists, who gave great tips on how to stay fit, healthy and pain-free all in a friendly and humorous manner. A couple of years ago Bob developed cerebal ataxia, a movement disorder that arises from dysfunction of the cerebellum, a part of the brain responsible for coordinating movement and maintaining balance. Bob was still involved with the YT Channel behind the scenes up until the day he suffered a heart attack.

    Not so many Progressive Metal fans here, I guess? Anyway, Brent Hinds, Mastodon's (former) lead guitar player, deserves an entry here. Just died in a motorcycle accident at only 51 years old.

    Saw them live in 2006 when opening for Tool. They were pretty good then and are still today.

    He was an influential metal guitarist who was also heavily influenced by country music (and also played in country bands showing how versatile he was).

    For me their 2004 'Moby Dick' concept album Leviathan is a progressive/alternative metal masterpiece and I am not the only one of that opinion.

    The Turtles Co-Founder Mark Volman Dies at 78 After a 'Brief, Unexpected Illness'
    In 2020, Volman was diagnosed with Lewy body dementia
    September 5, 2025 03:20PM EDT

    "Mark Volman, who's a founding member of the '60s rock band The Turtles, has died. He was 78.

    Volman died on Sept. 5 after a "brief, unexpected illness" in Nashville Tenn., his rep confirmed in a statement to PEOPLE.

    Volman began his musical career in high school in 1963, when he joined his classmate Howard Kaylan's band the Crossfires. Eventually renamed The Turtles, the band had their first Top 10 hit in 1965 with a version of Bob Dylan's "It Ain’t Me Babe."

    The band was further propelled into fame with hits like "Happy Together" and "Elenore" — and Volman was a standout with his wide grin and curly hair."

    Robert Redford has 57 credits on imdb and directed ten works. You would think over the 50 years he would have done more, but as the video said he was picky.

    Jane Goodall has passed away. Here's Wade Frazier's post just now, in itself a most fitting obituary. The very beautiful photo I add below is one of many to be easily found.

    ~~~
    Today, Jane Goodall died while on a speaking tour, in Los Angeles. She was 91.
    The great ones are like that: active until they drop. I watched the National Geographic documentary on Goodall and chimps in the 1960s. She was a path-breaking scientist, including paving the way for women scientists.
    Goodall was the first scientist to observe an animal use a tool, and her mentor Louis Leakey replied to her finding with: “Now we must redefine tool, redefine man, or accept chimpanzees as human.”
    Chimps have long been a central topic of my writings, as studying them has shed a great deal of light on humanity. Richard Wrangham began his extraordinary career while working for Goodall. Franz de Waal, who died last year, had long been one of my favorite writers. I have female relatives who studied great apes in the wild, and one of them knew Goodall. The entire field of great-ape studies owes a great debt to Goodall. If humanity does not drive chimps to extinction, Goodall will have played an important part of that.
    Goodall was not just a scientist, but she was a passionate activist, particularly regarding Earth’s environment. Her efforts led to the planting of millions of trees, as she tried to protect Earth’s forests. She also had great optimism about the human future. She was as much of a secular saint as I ever heard of.
    Her passing marks the end of an era. R.I.P. Jane.
    More on Jane Goodall:
    Jane Goodall Dies at 91
    Jane Goodall with a baby chimpanzee named Flint at Gombe Stream Research Centre in Tanzania.
    World-renowned primatologist and conservationist Jane Goodall has died at the age of 91. The Jane Goodall Institute confirmed today that she passed away peacefully in her sleep while on a speaking tour in California.
    Born in London in 1934, her favorite books were Tarzan and Doctor Dolittle. She spent her childhood dreaming of traveling to Africa.
    “I’ll go to Africa, live with animals, write books about them,” she once told CBS News about those early desires.
    Even in these dreams, she never imagined she would be a scientist. At the time, it was almost unheard of for girls. Everything changed when she got a job as a secretary with paleoanthropologist Louis Leakey. He recognized her gift with animals and sent her to Tanzania to observe chimpanzees at Gombe Stream National Park.
    He thought understanding chimpanzees would give an insight into how our ancestors behaved. In 1960, at the age of 26 and without a formal degree, she began the fieldwork that would alter the course of primatology.
    At Gombe, she witnessed and meticulously recorded extraordinary behaviors. Chimpanzees making and using tools. Stripping leaves from twigs to fish termites from their mounds displayed a skill we thought only humans had. They exhibited emotions such as grief and had social relationships and a hierarchy. The study made us redefine what it is to be human.
    Chimps as individuals
    Even more radically, to many in the field, Goodall insisted on seeing the chimpanzees as individuals, giving them names like David Greybeard and Flo, and following their lives over the years. Her observations forced the world to reconsider the supposed gulf between humans and other primates, and her work earned her a place at Cambridge. She began a PhD without even holding an undergraduate degree, a rarity even now.
    Goodall’s personal and work lives were always intertwined. She met her first husband, Hugo van Lawick, in Tanzania. He was a wildlife photographer who filmed much of her early work. Even after divorcing, she credited his images with persuading many skeptics to take her findings seriously. In 1975, she married Derek Bryceson, then head of Tanzania’s national parks, who supported her conservation work until his death in 1980.
    In 1977, she founded the Jane Goodall Institute, a leading body in primate conservation. She later launched Roots & Shoots, a youth empowerment program in 75 countries. She published over 30 books, became a United Nations Messenger of Peace, and spent her later decades speaking tirelessly on climate change, deforestation, and the urgent need to protect our planet. Even in her nineties, she was relentless in her efforts, traveling around 300 days a year to speak to the public.
    Her fame and legacy extend beyond what she discovered about chimpanzees. They come from her forcing the world to see that protecting animals and their habitat is a moral duty. Over the last six decades, she has been one of the most trusted and beloved voices in science, inspiring generations of researchers and conservationists to continue and build upon her work.
    Some people remember Jane Goodall dying years ago possibly from a gorilla attack. There's also a confusing between her and Dian Fossey who did similar work. Dian's body was found at Karisoke Research Center in Rwanda on 12/27/85 and was apparently murdered with a machete. The 1988 movie Gorillas in the Mist was based on Dian's book of the same name according to the above Wikipedia link about the movie. I rewrote this post three times because the information on Wikipedia changed as if AI was actively making alterations.
    Jane's video works.
