    From Margarita Simonyan

    Translated text,

During his first visit to China in 2000, Putin took a photo with a Chinese boy.

Our RT China published a post asking to find this boy — Peng Pai. The post was picked up on Chinese social media, and he was found!

It turned out that he — now very much an adult man — enrolled in Moscow's MADI on a presidential scholarship and received a master's degree in 2013.

He has already published a video message in Russian and said that he hopes to meet Putin in September during his visit to China.

    ‼️🇷🇺👨‍🦲 I know it's a bold request, but can we take a photo? — Let's do it.

A boy broke through the crowd at Palace Square to ask Putin for a picture.

The president thanked the command, ship crews, and military units.

He also greeted the Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin, who is currently in St. Petersburg on Lukashenko's orders.

🇷🇺🚀 #Russian Navy Day Special Post

⚓️🇷🇺 The image shows the RSM-56 Bulava (NATO reporting name: SS-N-32), #Russia’s most advanced submarine-launched Intercontinental ballistic missile, designed specifically for the Borei-class nuclear submarines.

With a range of over 9,000 km, Bulava can carry up to 6 MIRVed warheads, each maneuverable and capable of independent targeting. The missile uses advanced countermeasures to bypass Western missile defense systems including decoys and unpredictable flight paths making interception nearly impossible.

Development of the Bulava was Russia’s strategic answer to the growing pressure of #NATO expansion and U.S. missile defense architecture. Despite early setbacks in testing, it is now fully operational and a central pillar of Russia’s sea-based nuclear deterrent.

On this Navy Day, Bulava remains submerged beneath the waves, silent, undetectable, and ready.

Putin and Lukashenko met at the historic Valaam Monastery, situated on Valaam Island - the largest island in Lake Ladoga, which is the biggest lake in Europe. The monastery, a significant spiritual and cultural site, was founded in 1407 and has stood as a symbol of Russian Orthodox heritage for over six centuries. This remote and serene location adds a historic and symbolic backdrop to their meeting.

    Default Re: The Putin Thread

This article provides a small glimpse into how Putin came to view Russian borders and the collapse of the Soviet Union. Putin has often expressed the view that the dissolution of the Soviet Union was the worst event in Russian history. In a 2005 interview, Putin called the collapse of the Soviet Union the "greatest geopolitical catastrophe" of the 20th century.

There is little doubt that outside of his family that Anatoly Sobchak helped shape his early thinking and assisted him in navigating through the legal landscape into the world of politics. Many scholars believe that Sobchak is the "man who made Putin." I think it is also fair to say that the collapse of the Soviet Union was probably the pivotal event that profoundly influenced Putin's policies and worldview.

‘A justified perception of Russian interests’ Unearthed German memo reveals Putin laid claim to parts of Ukraine and Kazakhstan back in 1994

Vladimir Putin has long claimed that Russia’s border “does not end anywhere.” According to a newly unearthed memo from Germany’s Federal Foreign Office, the future Russian president advocated this concept as far back as 1994. The document, which was first reported by the German news site Der Spiegel, reveals that during his time as the deputy mayor of St. Petersburg, Putin told the German consul general that Crimea, eastern Ukraine, and northern Kazakhstan “have always been a part of Russian land.”

As reported by Der Spiegel, the memo outlining this exchange surfaced in a volume of archival documents from the German Foreign Office, which was published last month. In the memo, dated January 14, 1994, Consul General Eberhard von Puttkamer quotes Putin as saying,

Crimea, eastern Ukraine, and northern Kazakhstan — at least these areas — have never been foreign territory to Russia, but have always been a part of Russian land. It’s impossible to explain to a Russian that these are now considered foreign.

The diplomat also noted that this was something Putin repeated “with emphasis” while claiming that he was echoing national sentiment.

According to the memo, Putin went on to explain that there would be “no problems” if the economic and social situation were satisfactory for Russians living in Ukraine and Kazakhstan. However, he argued that this was not the case, and added that the West would be “ill-advised to label what is merely a justified perception of Russian interests as a resurgence of Russian imperialism.”

Eberhard von Puttkamer was the German Consul General in St. Petersburg from 1991 to 1995. He passed away in 2019. At the time of the conversation quoted in the memo, Putin was serving as St. Petersburg’s deputy mayor and head of the office’s Committee for External Relations.

St. Petersburg Mayor Anatoly Sobchak (left) and Deputy Mayor Vladimir Putin, 1994

Putin’s boss at the time, St. Petersburg Mayor Anatoly Sobchak, had previously questioned the international borders that emerged from the Soviet Union’s collapse. In 1992, Sobchak argued that the USSR’s founding republics (the Russian, Ukrainian, and Belarusian SSRs, as well as the Transcaucasian SFSR) should return to their pre-Soviet borders, while “all other territorial acquisitions” should be subject to “discussions, negotiations, and decision-making.”

Sobchak also considered it “absurd” that Crimea was part of Ukraine, and claimed that Ukraine should be prevented from establishing its own army because it would “certainly make use of it.”

Putin, who has described the late Sobchak as a teacher and friend, cited his former boss’s stance on post-Soviet borders in his infamous 2021 essay on the “historical unity” of Russians and Ukrainians. The Russian president has also erroneously claimed that modern-day Ukraine owes its existence to Bolshevik revolutionary Vladimir Lenin and declared that Crimea “was always” part of Russia.

Putin has also claimed that Kazakhstan was created by its first post-Soviet leader, President Nursultan Nazarbayev. “He [Nazarbayev] did something unique. He established a state on a territory where one had never existed before. The Kazakhs had no statehood,” Putin said in 2014.

Other Russian politicians have repeated this rhetoric. In 2020, State Duma lawmaker Vyacheslav Nikonov claimed that “the territory of Kazakhstan was a great gift from Russia and the Soviet Union.” The assertion prompted a response from Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev himself. “Our sacred land, inherited from our ancestors, is our main wealth. No outside force gave the Kazakhs this huge territory,” Tokayev said. “History should be studied by historians, not politicians.”

🇷🇺⭐️🇺🇸 Vladimir Putin honored the memory of the heroes of the "Alaska-Siberia" air route

The President laid flowers at the "Heroes of ALSib" memorial.

    📝 The Kremlin noted:
"The 'Alaska – Siberia' air route during the Great Patriotic War was one of the channels for delivering aircraft from the USA to the USSR under Lend-Lease – thus the Red Army received more than eight thousand planes."

▪️The President visited the memorial during a visit to Magadan before heading to a meeting with Trump in Alaska. The talks between the two leaders could last at least 6-7 hours, Dmitry Peskov predicts.

ℹ️ From 1942 to 1945, thousands of planes were ferried along this route — from P-39 Airacobra fighters to B-25 Mitchell bombers.

Pilots covered a distance of 6,400 km: Fairbanks — Uelkal — Yakutsk — Krasnoyarsk, often in conditions of polar frosts, fog, and strong winds. Losses were high: dozens of crews died due to icing and navigation errors.

"ALSib" became one of the most dangerous but vital routes of the war, supplying the Red Army with aircraft at a critical moment.

❓Do you think the USA values the memory of the alliance during the Great Patriotic War? Is this gesture as important to Trump as it is to Vladimir Putin?

Putin arrives in Magadan before Alaska summit

MAGADAN, August 15. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin on his way to the Russian-American summit in Alaska has stopped in Magadan, where he will visit the Omega-Sea plant, the Presidential sports complex, the Mayak Park social and cultural center, lay flowers at the monument to the heroic pilots, and hold a meeting with the region head Sergey Nosov.

After visiting the Omega-Sea plant, a unique enterprise for processing and refining fish oil, the head of state will go to the cultural and social center of the Mayak Park, which includes a space for exhibitions and temporary museum exhibitions, a conference hall, a cafe, a tourist visitor center and a workshop area.

Another point of visit will be the universal sports and recreation complex Presidential, the largest in the region.

The sports complex includes a multi-purpose gym for playing sports, an ice arena for hockey and figure skating, a 25-meter pool with eight lanes, a pool complex with water slides, a boxing gym, a hall for practicing kyokushin and other martial arts, and a gym for fitness, table tennis and yoga.

Memorial to the Heroes of Alsiba

After visiting the facilities, the president will lay flowers at the memorial to the heroes of Alsib (Alaska - Siberia highway). It is dedicated to the feat of the pilots of the First Red Banner Air Division and recalls the heroic episode of the Great Patriotic War. The memorial perpetuates the history of cooperation between the USSR and the US, depicting the moment of a handshake of the Soviet and American pilots against the background of a vertically mounted aircraft wing.

The memorial was erected on the day of the 75th anniversary of Victory in 2020 near the terminal building on the 13th kilometer of the Kolyma federal highway. The choice of its location is of particular importance: the old Magadan Airport played a key role in providing the material resources of the Alaska - Siberia air route. The route operated from 1942 to 1945 between Fairbanks in Alaska and Krasnoyarsk and passed through the airfields and runways of the Magadan Region in its capital and the villages of Seimchan and Berelekh. The airway was used to ferry American aircraft supplied to the USSR under lend-lease.

The flights involved a lot of risk. In the difficult conditions of the North, the pilots and technical staff showed courage and heroism.

At the end of the trip, Putin will also meet with Nosov and hold a meeting on the implementation of the Magadan master plan.

    About the summit

Earlier, Russian Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov said that the key topic of the talks between the leaders of Russia and the United States would be the settlement in Ukraine, including taking into account the discussion that was held in the Kremlin on August 6 with the participation of Special US Envoy Steve Witkoff. Broader tasks for ensuring peace and security, as well as current and most pressing international and regional issues will also be touched upon. Putin and US President Donald Trump will also discuss economic cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting will be held in Anchorage, Alaska.

I have seen many posts on twitter that seem to think that it was Putin´s body double who met with Trump. I watched some clips and indeed seems a bit odd.
Putin never behaves in a way he did in second video. Always calm and professional.
Also compare his face in first and second video , made day a part. He does seem a bit different.

Or how he looks on that picture in car, compare it to Putin in first video.
