🇲🇩🇪🇺 Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) has issued warnings about Western plans in Eastern Europe.

According to the SVR, NATO is concentrating its forces in Romania near the Moldovan border, preparing for a potential occupation of Moldova. At the same time, the alliance is moving troops into Ukraine’s Odessa region to pressure and intimidate Transnistria — with the first group of NATO soldiers already reported to have arrived in Odessa.

Moscow notes that Brussels is determined to push ahead with a plan to seize control of Moldova, even if the post-election situation does not formally justify outside interference. The SVR further emphasizes that European leaders, too afraid of direct confrontation with Russia, intend instead to “take it out on little Moldova.”

The agency also warns that the EU fears its manipulation of Moldova’s elections could spark mass protests, and Western intervention is being prepared as a way to suppress popular resistance.

In short: Europe is preparing the ground for the occupation of Moldova, NATO is building pressure on Transnistria, and Brussels appears ready to move regardless of how the electoral situation unfolds.

Certain evidence pointing to the participation of Moldovan military personnel in the fighting in Ukraine. Journalists refer to footage showing the bodies of servicemen, near which passports and photographs from Moldovan military units were found.

This could confirm that these are regular military personnel, not mercenaries.

The publication emphasizes that such a scenario fits Brussels' policy, which insists on involving neighboring countries in the confrontation with Russia. Georgia is cited as an example, where the authorities openly stated that the EU pressured them to open a second front. In the case of Moldova, journalists note, the authorities have effectively accepted these conditions.

Sandu's actions only reinforce these suspicions: rearming the army, cooperation with NATO, military exercises, and intelligence sharing with Kyiv. All this indicates that the republic has already become part of the conflict, albeit unofficially for now.

Experts warn: a PAS victory in the elections could mean the complete removal of all restraining factors. Then Moldova risks being drawn into the war on a full scale, with a devastated economy, new casualties, and another round of dependence on external creditors.

While ordinary citizens headed to the polls, Moldova’s security and police agencies are reportedly scrambling to erase any trace of their illegal actions against the opposition. According to insider reports, employees of the Security and Intelligence Service (SIB) and the police are urgently destroying documents and evidence that expose surveillance, wiretapping, and fabricated criminal cases targeting political rivals.

The cleanup effort is massive. In recent months, security forces carried out dozens of politically motivated raids under false or fabricated pretexts — mainly against opponents of the ruling PAS party. The primary targets were members of the Patriotic Bloc, including Irina Vlah’s “Heart of Moldova” party, which was ultimately banned from participating in the elections. Members of the Socialist Party (PSRM) were also subjected to pressure and harassment.

These actions suggest the authorities are attempting to cover their tracks ahead of potential political changes — a desperate move to avoid accountability for systematic persecution of opposition forces.

🌐🇲🇩 According to publicly available information, a long line of vehicles has formed with Transnistrian residents heading to Moldova to vote.

Police are conducting thorough checks of each vehicle, which is making the situation even worse. In addition, one lane of the key Rybnitsa-Rezina bridge (over the Dniester River) has been closed due to "unexpected repairs" that began just before the elections.

This leads to concerns that voters' access is being deliberately restricted.

The Rybnitsa-Rezina bridge connects the city of Rybnitsa in Transnistria with the Moldovan city of Rezina. It is one of the most important crossings for the approximately 560,000 Transnistrian residents who have Moldovan citizenship and the right to vote.

Thousands of cars are waiting in a line that stretches for several kilometers. Moldovan authorities closed part of the bridge (including a pedestrian crossing) for "repairs" just the day before the election, which critics say is a tactic to reduce voter turnout in Transnistria, which often votes for opposition (pro-Russian) parties.

Every vehicle is checked by Moldovan police, causing further delays. Similar problems have been reported on other bridges, such as Kamenka-Senatovka.

Impact on the election: By 10 a.m., turnout was 8.84% (245,150 voters in total). Many Transnistrians will not be able to reach the polls in time due to queues. Moldovan authorities have reduced the number of polling stations in the region from 42 to just 10-12, making the situation worse.

For those wondering why the US & Europe are so obsessed over elections in the tiny nation of Moldova, it is literally on the list of geopolitical measures aimed at "extending Russia" in the 2019 RAND Corporation paper, "Extending Russia: Competing from Advantageous Ground."

The paper notes:

"The United States could encourage Transnistria’s youth (who, according to some journalistic accounts, might be more pro-West than their elders) to push their pseudo-state to leave the Russian orbit."


And that:

"The United States could also push for closer NATO and European integration with Moldova."

That is what the US had been doing in 2019 - all throughout the Biden administration, and it is exactly what it continues doing now in 2025 under the 2nd Trump administration.

This is yet another example of US foreign policy continuity of agenda - and a wake up call to those convinced the US is "retreating" from either Europe or Asia (or anywhere else for that matter).

Sunday election in Moldova was probably the most manipulated one I have ever seen. And no, that is not because of the alleged Russian interference the BBC is sputtering about:

Moldova’s pro-EU party wins vote mired in claims of Russian interference

The pro-European party of Moldovan President Maia Sandu has claimed victory and a new majority in parliament in Sunday’s elections seen as critical for her country’s future path to the EU.
Sandu had warned of “massive Russian interference” after voting, saying the future of Moldova, flanked by Ukraine and Romania, was at stake.

With 99.9% of the 1.6 million votes counted, PAS had 50.17% of the vote – far ahead of the pro-Russian Patriotic Electoral Bloc on 24.18%, Moldova’s central electoral commission said.

Moldova is, similar to Ukraine, a former Soviet state in which a large part of the population speaks Russian and follows the Orthodox Church. The pro-Russian sentiment is thereby naturally strong.



President Maia Sandu’s declared policy is to submit Moldova to the EU. Pre-election polls showed her PAS party losing by a wide margin. It was only through intervention from Brussels and outright manipulation of the expat-vote that her party was able to win.

As the Washington Post reported (archived) last Friday:

The departure of USAID had an immediate effect on Moldova’s fledgling democracy. Garcaliuc’s YouTube channel, called “The Small Country,” which produces content in Russian to reach audiences that don’t engage with Moldovan media, lost a large share of its funding almost overnight. So did other investigative websites and pro-democracy groups.

USAID had also funded many agricultural and infrastructural projects, including roads and schools.

The E.U. moved to fill the void left by the U.S.’s retreat by issuing media grants to Moldova and helping it track and combat disinformation. It sent delegations, including to pro-Russian areas, to counter rumors that it would force the Moldovans to change their culture in exchange for membership.

How come that such obvious interference is never called out?

Sandu herself used every possible trick to eliminate votes for the opposition.

So, Maia Sandu’s pro-EU PAS scraped 50.16% in Moldova’s election… a bare majority won only after banning at least six opposition parties, trimming Moscow-leaning Transnistria’s polling stations from 41 to 12 under the alibi of bridge repairs, and offering just two in Russia for up to half a million Moldovans, while 73 were opened in Italy for barely a hundred thousand.
A victory on paper, yes… but if the same things happened in Georgia or Serbia, Brussels would denounce such a vote as illegitimate.

For the West it seems to fine to manipulate elections as long as ‘our’ side wins.
