I've had enough of looking at the world decaying in slow motion, I always go a bit past my own limits. But it's fine, - every now and then I need to spend time seeing the rot of the world close up again, although it's not sustainable.

I'm going to spend my time focusing on being a street preacher, but one with a gentle live instrumental guitar with shimmer, and a low amp volume so it's passive, not really engaging with people, only a calm reading of the Bible, and Christian daily devotional content from websites. Lower volume means we don't try to ram ourselves in your ears. Anyway, there's good news outside the raw truth of our times. I'm backing off from posting about horrible truth for a little while and hitting the streets.

Song of the Mamuna Tribe of South Papua

This is what they were singing:

"Day by day we walk on, Our feet pressing The same earth
Our fathers and our fathers' fathers Walked day by day,
While they walked on. Day by day we walk on,
Hush, little ones, Don't tell the earth We love her yet.
We will sleep in her soon enough,
But for now we walk on."
"Is there an idea more radical in the history of the human race than turning your children over to total strangers whom you know nothing about, and having those strangers work on your child's mind, out of your sight, for a period of twelve years?" John Taylor Gatto

    Maybe someone can help...

I've begun a grounding (or "earthing") practice these last couple weeks, but these Florida ants are chewing up my feet bad. These suckers bite (or sting?) and it leaves these little itchy welts, and I've finally had enough. Doesn't matter where I go, they're there.

I've spent a small fortune on grounding sneakers, but I don't feel as good about the process when I wear them. Question is, is there any alternative? Is there any herbal ant repellent or anything I can put on my feet beforehand to keep them away? That sounds like a silly question, but I'm kinda desperate. Thanks.

There are other forms of the Earth's natural electric charges. As you know, trees are excellent conductors of the Earth's energy due to their deep roots and moisture content. So hugging a tree or even leaning against it with bare skin contact can be a strong grounding experience.

Contact with leaves and living plants that grow directly in soil are other examples of earthing. Such as a walk in a field of tall grasses. The more direct and moisture-rich the contact, ie. barefoot on damp soil, the more effective the grounding.

Though not consider earthing, I experience energetic balancing with the Wind especially when done with intention, mindfulness, and by anchoring my awareness in the present and in my body. Wind is my friend. We work to clear the stagnant or negative energy in my body and its fields. It also helps me experience a greater connection with the natural elements.

Mike, I thought of you when this popped up on my news feed.

15 Ways To Ground Besides Grass - How Many Of These Do You Touch Daily? (Dr. Laura Koniver, MD) (9 min)
It’s a little too cold for me to go barefoot. I'm going to show you using my hand all the different surfaces out here that I can touch and still be grounded even when I don't want to go barefoot, even when I don't have a lawn to go sit on, or picnic on or go barefoot and even when I'm not at the beach. How else can we touch this earth and get grounded? It's easier than you think.

There are so many wonderful ways to get instantly grounded to the earth outside, even when you have no lawn, no grass, no place to walk barefoot. Today I show you 15 different surfaces that I touch as I walk around all bundled up and warm with winter boots on. How many of these do you have access to each day?

You absolutely can get grounded -- outside! -- all year round, no matter what the weather. For more awesome grounding tips, including a free e-book on what the medical studies on grounding show, head over to my website at: http://www.intuition-physician.com

Adding this here for extra exposure, copied from Internet Censorship: So it continues....

Across PA, me and my fellow Brits are continuing to see a lot of "Content not viewable in Your Region' warnings, including on this page.

    ****

Just a heads up: if you're using Imgur as an image host, know that your images won't be visible or viewable by members in the UK. Instead we see this:

It would be 'desirable', therefore, if at all possible, to use an alternative host for posting images on Avalon to ensure all members can see the image or graphic in question. Many such hosts are available. My recommendation: https://vgy.me/

Tintin posted about this elsewhere. This is the general thrust:

Imgur blocks access to UK users after regulator warned of fine: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c4gzxv5gy3qo

    Effective September 30th
Image-hosting platform Imgur has blocked people in the UK from accessing its content.

Imgur is used by millions to make and share images such as memes across the web, particularly on Reddit and in online forums.

But UK users trying to access Imgur on Tuesday were met with an error message saying "content not available in your region" - with Imgur content shared on other websites also no longer showing.

The UK's data watchdog, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), said it recently notified the platform's parent company, MediaLab AI, of plans to fine Imgur after probing its approach to age checks and use of children's personal data.

The BBC has approached MediaLab AI for comment.

A help article on Imgur's US website, seen by the BBC, states that "from September 30, 2025, access to Imgur from the United Kingdom is no longer available".

"UK users will not be able to log in, view content, or upload images. Imgur content embedded on third-party sites will not display for UK users."

Wasn't sure where to post this. A human-interest story, not a warm, fuzzy one by any metric. In fact, quite the opposite

I felt something within me sink when I read it. Do we need any further reminders that the world we live in is broken, backward, sick? Possibly diseased with a rather grim prognosis? We see symptoms everywhere and every single day. What's one more lumped onto the pile, right?

In this case, it's about the kids. It's really always about the kids, isn't it? Because what sort of world will they inherit, and what the hell are they going to do with it? With stories like this, I don't feel very optimistic.

    Travis Akers 🇺🇸
    @travisakers
A message from a Kindergarten teacher:
After forty years in the classroom, my career ended with one small sentence from a six-year-old:

“My dad says people like you don’t matter anymore.”

No sneer. No malice. Just quiet honesty — the kind that cuts deeper because it’s innocent. He blinked, then added, “You don’t even have a TikTok.”

My name is Mrs. Clara Holt, and for four decades, I taught kindergarten in a small Denver suburb. Today, I stacked the last box on my desk and locked the door behind me.

When I started teaching in the early 1980s, it felt like a promise — a shared belief that what we did mattered. We weren’t rich, but we were valued. Parents brought warm cookies to parent nights. Kids gave you handmade cards with hearts that didn’t quite line up. Watching a child sound out their first sentence felt like magic.

But that world slowly slipped away. The job I once knew has been replaced by exhaustion, red tape, and a kind of loneliness I can’t quite describe.

My evenings used to be filled with construction paper, glitter, and glue sticks. Now they’re spent filling out digital reports to protect myself from angry emails or lawsuits. I’ve been yelled at by parents in front of twenty-five children — one filming me with his phone while I tried to calm another child mid-meltdown.

And the kids… they’ve changed too. Not by choice.

They arrive tired, anxious, overstimulated. Their tiny fingers know how to swipe a screen before they can hold a crayon. Some can’t make eye contact or wait in line. We’re expected to fix all of it — to patch the gaps, heal the trauma, teach the curriculum, and document every move — in six hours a day, with resources that barely fill a drawer.

The little reading corner I once built, full of soft beanbags and paper stars, was replaced by data charts and “learning metrics.” A young principal once told me, “Clara, maybe you’re too nurturing. The district wants measurable results.”

As if kindness were a weakness.

Still, I stayed. Because of the small, holy moments that no spreadsheet could measure —
a whisper of, “You remind me of my grandma.”
a shaky note that read, “I feel safe here.”
a quiet boy finally meeting my eyes and saying, “I read the whole page.”

Those tiny sparks were my reason to keep showing up.

But this last year broke something in me.

The aggression grew sharper. The laughter in the staff room turned to silence. The light went out of so many eyes. I watched brilliant teachers — my friends — vanish under the weight of burnout, their joy replaced by survival.

I felt myself fading too, like chalk on a board that’s been wiped one too many times.

So today, I began my goodbye. I pulled faded art off the walls and tucked thirty years of handmade cards into a single box. In the back of a drawer, I found a letter from a student from 1998:

“Thank you for loving me when I was hard to love.”

I sat on the floor and cried.

No party. No applause. Just a handshake from a young principal who called me “Ma’am” while checking his notifications.

I left my rocking chair behind, and my sticker box too. What I carried with me were the memories — the faces of hundreds of children who once trusted me enough to reach out their hands and learn. That can’t be uploaded. It can’t be measured. It can’t be replaced.

I miss when teachers were partners, not targets. When parents and educators worked side by side, not in opposition. When schools cared more about wonder than numbers.

So if you know a teacher — any teacher — thank them. Not with a mug or a gift card, but with your words. With your respect. With your understanding that behind every test score is a heart that cared enough to try.

Because in a world that often overlooks them, teachers are the ones who never forget our children.

Tough to read, and clearly that small thing was literally the very very last straw. The little six-year old's innocent comment struck home so deeply exactly because Clara feared it might be true.

This might warrant a new thread, all about the challenges that teachers now face. (I was one such for just a single year, long ago when I was 23, and that was enough even back then.)

A most interesting channel called Etacude English Teachers features dozens of first-hand reports from US teachers who are quitting in droves because they can NOT deal with the students (of all ages) any more.

Sadly, the dehumanization of public education started earlier than 40 years ago.
I was in 2nd grade in 1955 when I received the SV40 polio vaccine which was deadly to many worldwide, and to the "lucky" ones like me, merely meant a lifetime of fibromyalgia, neuropathy and hyper sensitivity (but also a near mental breakdown at the age of 7).
Being always a highly sensitive individual, I knew immediately there was something terribly wrong with it as I felt it wending its destructive way through my body.
I tried to explain that to my teacher, to the school nurse, to the principal and to my mother, but no one listened.
I had to consciously suppress the memory or I never would have been able to focus on anything else.
It wasn't until I was in my late twenties that the memory reemerged, but there was still nothing I could find that would explain what I had undergone, so I had to lock it all back up again in my subconscious.
It wasn't until I was in my 50s and had a doctor who was open to the holistic approach to medicine that I was given the information that I needed to begin jumping down rabbit holes.
I was only too, too right...

Though things seem bleak, they are not as bleak as in 1944.

From a letter by JRR Tolkien in that year to his son Christopher, who, at the time, was stationed in Africa.
"I sometimes feel appalled at the thought of the sum total of human misery all over the world at the present moment: the millions parted, fretting, wasting in unprofitable days – quite apart from torture, pain, death, bereavement, injustice. If anguish were visible, almost the whole of this benighted planet would be enveloped in a dense dark vapour, shrouded from the amazed vision of the heavens! And the products of it all will be mainly evil – historically considered.

But the historical version is, of course, not the only one. All things and deeds have a value in themselves, apart from their 'causes' and 'effects'. No man can estimate what is really happening at the present sub specie aeternitatis. All we do know, and that to a large extent by direct experience, is that evil labours with vast power and perpetual success – in vain: preparing always only the soil for unexpected good to sprout in. So it is in general, and so it is in our own lives.

But there is still some hope that things may be better for us, even on the temporal plane, in the mercy of God. And though we need all our natural human courage and guts (the vast sum of human courage and endurance is stupendous, isn't it?) and all our religious faith to face the evil that may befall us (as it befalls others, if God wills) still we may pray and hope. I do."

A bit before sunrise here. Tired. I just edited a previous shell command in debian linux, ending up with "rm -rfv ~/.config" and hit enter without thinking. Can't find a recent backup yet......

The only place a perfect right angle ever CAN be, is the mind.

I don't know a thing about linux commands — but I assume that "rm" means remove. Does this mean you deleted something super-critical?
