The size of the military buildup in the Caribbean suggests that the United States has more in store for Venezuela than just taking out a few suspected drug running boats on the high seas. Once the Ford Carrier Strike Group arrives on station from the Med there will be more firepower in the region than there has been anywhere for decades, and it's likely the Americans will execute airstrikes into Venezuela. Will they surgically target the cartels' drug manufacturing facilities or is the plan to topple the Maduro government? We are all deeply concerned by the dangerous escalation in the Caribbean. The US is continuing its military build-up along the shores of Venezuela and unlawful strikes against alleged ‘drug boats’. Trying to diffuse tensions, Russia, during its Presidency in the UN Security Council in October, proposed a draft Presidential Statement to address this concerning situation.

The draft was balanced and uniting: a call for restraint and dialogue to resolve disagreements, a reaffirmation of the Zone of Peace in Latin America and the emphasis on cooperation to jointly counter drug trafficking and transnational organized crime.

Unfortunately, only one Council member (guess who) rejected this initiative, displaying no intention to de-escalate or to seek diplomatic solutions.

Russia rejects warmongering and sabre rattling. Those who reject diplomacy as the only way to solve contentious issues among countries will bear full responsibility for the fallout of their reckless behavior

This sure looks like a deliberate mirror image of what Trump is proclaiming, regarding the Russia-Ukraine war.

My guess is that Trump and Putin are united in their war against the British/Davos/WEF/NATO/Zionist/... globalist imperialists who have fomented wars involving both Russia and America for centuries. Each is fighting on a front in that war within their own hemisphere, against a puppet of the globalists who inflicts considerable harm on them, and each is publicly asking the other to be peaceful. Beneath the covers, Russia and America, under their respective leaders Putin and Trump, are deeply aligned, though Russia was, and America still is, deeply infiltrated by the globalist agents.

ST. PETERSBURG — Elena Panina warned bluntly that a U.S. strike on Venezuela would hand Moscow the chance to settle scores — and that Russia should seize it. What Washington frames as an anti-narcotics operation, she argued, is in fact preparation for a sustained air-and-sea campaign reminiscent of Libya 2011, with all the same risks of blowback and chaos.

Panina anchored her analysis in a recent assessment by the U.S. Cato Institute, whose experts Justin Logan and Lawrence Montreuil noted that the number of U.S. naval assets now positioned in the Caribbean exceeds those deployed off Libya before NATO’s intervention. They cautioned that such a buildup is “optimal not for drug enforcement, but for a prolonged military campaign.” For Panina, that alignment makes a repeat of Libya’s trajectory — state collapse, civil war, refugee crises — not merely possible but likely if Washington proceeds.

Citing The Wall Street Journal, Panina said the Pentagon’s planned strikes on sites “linked to drug trafficking” are a convenient pretext that could encompass any Venezuelan facility under state control. The real objective, she asserted, is a “decapitating strike” aimed at President Nicolás Maduro and his senior circle, intended to shatter the country’s will to resist and pave the way for a U.S.-backed political transition. “Convenient legends about narcotics,” she wrote, “allow the U.S. to target everything from ports to civilian airports.”

She highlighted that the Pentagon’s readiness for a full-scale campaign would be complete with the arrival of the USS Gerald R. Ford carrier strike group in the Southern Command’s area of responsibility, ordered there on 24 October. Against that backdrop, Panina pointed to reports of a Russian transport plane landing in Caracas — and noted that the delivery would be “all the better if it carried modern anti-ship missiles.”

Panina insists that Russian involvement, whether direct or indirect, is inevitable — and must be structured to impose real costs. “Should Washington launch a ground invasion,” she said, “the operation must be designed to inflict the maximum possible damage on the American army.” Even without a ground campaign, she urged measures to “spoil the American plan,” framing the confrontation as a chance to “finally get even for the sinking of the cruiser Moskva.”

Her conclusion fused vengeance with deterrence: U.S. intervention in Venezuela would be a turning point, and Russia’s task is not restraint but retribution delivered through strategic calculation. Washington uses anti-drug operations as a pretext for regional intervention.

On Friday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova confirmed that her country is closely monitoring events related to the U.S. military deployment in the Caribbean near Venezuelan waters.

“We are extremely concerned about the use of military methods to resolve problems, which constitute open interference in the internal affairs of Latin American states,” she said.

Zakharova emphasized that Moscow firmly opposes using counter-narcotics efforts as a tool to pressure sovereign states, as well as Washington’s use of force against Caracas.

The Russian diplomat added that these actions “directly contradict the United States’ international legal obligations under the 1988 U.N. Convention Against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances.”

Referring to the nature of U.S. actions toward Latin America, Zakharova said they demonstrate the ongoing relevance of the Monroe Doctrine in U.S. foreign policy. “It has not been abandoned if we look at what has happened in recent years in this region,” she said.

Regarding the anti-drug campaign that Washington uses as a pretext to increase its military presence in the Caribbean, Zakharova urged the United States to redirect the “war on drugs” inward and to look for those responsible for drug trafficking within its own elites.

“Within your own country, who has lobbied for the legalization of drugs over the past decades? Who—mentally, philosophically, theoretically, and practically—has accustomed U.S. society to a ‘new normal’ in which drugs are viewed as some kind of salvation? … Why are there so many people openly using drugs on the streets of your cities?” she asked.

The Russian diplomat noted that her country “traditionally supports the stable development of the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as the resolution of all differences through peaceful and civilized means.”

In this regard, Zakharova highlighted the closeness between the two nations. “In the context of the current situation, we maintain close and constant contact with our Venezuelan friends,” she said, reaffirming that Moscow is ready “to respond appropriately to requests from Caracas, taking into account both current and potential challenges.”
