Juan is also one of my fav commentators on airplane incidents, including crashes, and on other aviation and non aviation stories. I have followed him since the start of his reporting on the Oroville Dam situation in 2017, when he took over his wife’s YT chan blancolirio. PA member Denise/Dizi knowns he and his fam personally, and she has spoken highly of him/them. I caught that vid soon after publication.

Here is a US Naval Institute News animated vid desribing the USMC C-130 tanker breakup which Juan speaks of. I read the entire final report on that investigation, which iirc was a military study, not NTSB. Besides further details of the crash sequence, it gave a fascinating look at industry practices for non-destructive testing and at US military aviation maintenance practices, at that time.

A massive bridge at a hydropower station in southwest China collapsed Tuesday, sending concrete and steel plunging into a river just months after it opened, according to Chinese state media.

Reuters reported that an official from Barkam County confirmed the collapse to the Chinese state-run Global Times, saying no casualties had been reported.

The report added that cracks were detected a day earlier on the bridge’s road surface and slope, prompting authorities to impose temporary traffic controls.

Footage of the collapse, shared widely on Chinese social media, showed the Hongqi Bridge in Sichuan Province buckling before falling into the river below, kicking up a massive cloud of dust.



The incident occurred around 3 p.m. local time near the G317 national highway, according to China Central Television (CCTV) News.

Local transportation and public security bureaus said the right-bank slope of the bridge showed signs of deformation Monday afternoon, just hours before the collapse.

Authorities quickly shut down the structure to all traffic and issued a public notice warning of potential safety risks.



According to Times Now, the Hongqi Bridge was located in Sichuan Province’s mountainous Maerkang area and completed earlier this year as part of the G317 national highway—an important route connecting central China to Tibet.

The 758-meter-long, cantilevered two-lane beam bridge stood roughly 625 meters above the gorge floor, with piers reaching up to 172 meters in height. It was built by the state-backed Sichuan Road & Bridge Group as part of efforts to expand access to the Tibetan Plateau.



The bridge’s construction was part of a broader government push to improve connectivity and spur economic growth across western China’s rugged terrain, Times Now reported.

It was intended to serve as a symbol of the country’s infrastructure ambitions but had only reopened to traffic a few months before the collapse—marking a short-lived chapter for what was meant to showcase China’s engineering progress.

State-run outlets have not yet identified the cause of the collapse, though early assessments suggest geological instability may have played a role. No vehicles or pedestrians were on the bridge at the time, officials said, and investigations are underway.

There was a landslide first, which damaged the bridge which collapsed later. It wasn’t engineering rather it collapsed because it was built on unstable ground on an earthquake fault line.

The edge of Tibetan Plateau is extremely geologically active. Earthquake and landslide very common. Where bridge collapsed is near the 2008 Sichuan earthquake.

It's actually quite difficult to build and maintain infrastructure in this part of the world. But China will keep building and rebuilding because it could.

Thw whole edge of Tibetan Plateau is geologically active. The Tibetan Plateau exist because ongoing collision of Indian plate pushing into Eurasian plate. But people still need road and infrastructure.

They blocked road after detecting signs of possible landslide so no one injured.

Maybe next time, they could just remove the whole mountain top

The bridge collapsed because it was built in a place where it should not have been built and typical of the CCP's projects, inadequate research was done in determining whether the location was safe for a bridge to be built. If you look at the video on the current China Show it's also very clear that the foundations of the bridge were not even put deep enough in the ground to keep it stable.
I find it very disappointing that CCP propaganda is rampant now on this forum.

I don't understand why you think that article would make my day, Bill.
Though it certainly would be fortunate and gratifying, at least to those who don't swallow mainstream media BS
...if it were understood and acknowledged widely that the bridge came down because it was constructed where it should never have been, in an area where the landslide that did indeed occur, was obviously going to occur, and because of the CCP's usual practice of shoddy construction and dangerous shortcuts.
That was obvious to engineers and others with the kind of expertise that would have prevented going ahead with such an ill-advised project, had they been listened to.
The CCP was so advised, but they ignored that sound advice and so one more very costly construction project created by the CCP has failed and once again, the CCP is refusing to take the blame, hoping that the usual lying propaganda will "save face" for them.

I didn't recognize it as a joke because I take no pleasure in the dystopia that China has become, or in the fact that so little of that dark scenario is being exposed on the forum while so much of the B.S. CCP propaganda is being presented here as truth.
