In Yakutia, the seasonal harvesting of ice has begun. It is a traditional way to ensure access to clean fresh water during the long winter months.

How we have fun at −64°C (−84°F) Yakutsk, Siberia

Even more: (And in this video, it's even colder)

Yakutia is the region, of which Yakutsk (in the quoted post above) is the largest city. The village depicted in this video, which has an English commentary, is just one very tiny place in this vast area of Siberia.

One Day in the Coldest Village on Earth −71°C (−96°F) | Yakutia, Siberia

    Happy Holiday, National Unity Day!

Just as Minin and Pozharsky, along with the entire nation, drove the enemy away from the heart of our Motherland under banners and icons, so too do our diplomats today defend the country's interests on the international stage.

🇷🇺 #NationalUnityDay is celebrated not only in Russia but also abroad.

Russian diplomatic missions traditionally hold solemn events, receptions, memorial wreath-layings at the graves of our soldiers and sailors, concerts, and cultural evenings with the participation of compatriots.

    🔥🗞The Informant

❗️⚠️🇷🇺 - A partial collapse at the Snezhkom indoor ski complex in Krasnogorsk, near Moscow, injured two people and damaged more than 100 vehicles, according to TASS citing emergency services.

One victim was examined on-site by doctors and declined hospitalization. The second was transported by ambulance to a trauma center for treatment, per the Moscow Region Health Ministry.

In nearby residences, shattered windows injured one woman when glass shards struck her face, causing a nasal laceration; she also refused hospitalization.

Opened in 2008, Snezhkom was Russia's first all-season indoor ski facility, featuring a 365-meter ski slope, training areas, a snowboard park, and an ice rink.

Demolition began in summer 2024 after the structure was deemed unsafe due to flaws in the dome and metal trusses that risked further collapse. Challenges included the massive scale of the metal components—some sections weighing tens of tons—leading to repeated pauses for load recalculations and safety adjustments. The building remains partially intact, with plans to construct a residential complex on the site.

Just a personal comment. I follow this thread closely, as many will know, and it always strikes me how VERY strongly and passionately Russians honor, celebrate, and protect their national culture — something that is just not done in North America or Europe any longer at all.

Something for Sunday...New Russian Classical Music

Russia's new generation of classical musicians are creating works of great beauty. Often taking the rhythms of nature as inspiration (the Americans take the rhythm of their cities), new Russian composers such as Alexei Krasheninnikov are taking a new approach to creating musical soundscapes of great beauty. Here's an excerpt from the 'Winter' section of his "Seasons" concerto, seen at the Mariinsky in St.Petersburg last night.

😍 The Shoana Temple is one of the few architectural testimonies of ancient Christianity.

It is visited by those who are captivated not only by the delightful nature of the Greater Caucasus but also by its man-made beauties. The place where this temple was built is steeped in historical intricacies and life's dramas. And no wonder, for 11 centuries have passed since its construction.

The cathedral is located in the village of Kosta Khetagurov in Karachay-Cherkessia and was built above the Kuban River, more precisely, at the point where it merges with the Teberda River on Mount Shoana.

The temple is built in the form of a cross. Both in length and in height, the building measures almost 13 meters. During the Soviet years, the temple stood in desolation, but in our time, it has come back to life. Today, divine services are held there daily.

    1. Church of the Transfiguration: an entirely wooden, 22-dome church built without a single nail...

Part of the Kizhi Pogost, Russia — the world's tallest wooden structure. Built to gather Christians in the remote Karelia region.

The current, restored church used metal nails, but the 18th century original didn't. Instead, it used horizontal logs that interlock in the corners.

In the Altai Mountains of Russia, a massive rock formation bears a carved icon of the Virgin Mary holding the Child Jesus.

Created by Orthodox nun Felofeya of the Barnaul Znamensky Monastery, the sacred carving overlooks the Patmos Island monastery of St. John the Theologian .

Rostov Veliky, one of Russia’s oldest cities.
First mentioned in 862, it stood when most of Europe was still learning to read.

Once a major center of Rus’, home to princes, scribes, and traders.
Later, it became a spiritual stronghold with its own Kremlin (yes, Russia has many), rising above Lake Nero like something from an old epic.
And then came its signature enamel art.

Yakutsk’s Captured NATO Weapons Exhibit Draws Tens of Thousands in Its First Week

Since opening on National Unity Day, the exhibition of captured NATO equipment in Yakutsk has surpassed expectations, drawing over 15,000 visitors in its first week. Hailed by organizers as a “powerful symbol of the modern era,” the display has become a major cultural and patriotic event, continuing to resonate with the public.

Long queues formed daily at the “Russia – My History” park, where families, school groups, and veterans viewed the infamous weaponry captured during the Special Military Operation.

“The incredible turnout, especially among youth, confirms that this is more than a display—it’s a crucial step in patriotic education,” said a spokesperson for the Arctic Center of Epics and Arts. Guided tours by war correspondent Alexander Avdeev provided battlefield context, while veterans and youth groups launched related educational initiatives, reinforcing historical memory and national consciousness.

Due to overwhelming public demand, the exhibition has been extended through the end of November, with special hours for working families and visitors from remote districts.

🇷🇺 Inside Yakutsk’s Exhibition of Captured NATO “Wonder-Weapons”

On November 4, 2025, the Arctic Center of Epics and Arts, the “Russia – My History” historical park, and the Yakutia Congress Center opened a unique exhibition of captured NATO military equipment. The project was part of the III Republican Anti-Fascist Forum of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), “The People and the Army are United!” under the motto, “Russia is Strong Through Us.”

Organizers described the exhibition as unprecedented in the region, a powerful symbol of the modern era. Residents and visitors saw weaponry supplied to the Kiev regime and captured during the Special Military Operation, including the M2 Bradley, M113, VAB, TPz 1 “Fuchs,” and BTR-4E “Bucephalus,” delivered from the South Donetsk direction by fighters of the “Vostok” group.

The opening coincided with National Unity Day and included speeches by regional leaders and Ministry of Defense officials, including Lieutenant General Roman Grekov. Heroes of the Russian Federation and front-line participants attended, while war correspondent Alexander Avdeev guided tours.

Organizers emphasized the exhibition’s role in patriotic education, showing youth the enemy’s so-called “wonder-weapons” and reinforcing historical memory and national consciousness.
