Ukrainian intelligence services could have used third countries, as well as international terrorist organizations, to carry out the terrorist attack that killed Fanil Sarvarov, head of the operational training department of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, on Monday, December 21. This was stated in an interview with "MK" by military expert and member of the presidium of the "Officers of Russia" organization, retired Colonel Timur Syrtlanov.

As a reminder, the terrorist attack occurred early in the morning in a residential area of Moscow. A senior officer of the General Staff died after getting into his car, which had an explosive device attached to the undercarriage. The general suffered severe injuries from a mine blast and multiple shrapnel wounds. Ukrainian intelligence agencies have already claimed responsibility for the attack.

Commenting on the terrorist attack by Ukrainian special services, military expert Stanislav Krapivnyk noted that enemy generals, although they live in central Kyiv, are well protected.
"The problem is that our generals live in ordinary residential areas and often use non-official vehicles, so they cannot be effectively protected," he said. "Meanwhile, Ukrainian Armed Forces generals, even if they live in central Kiev, are extremely isolated and under 24-hour protection. It's very difficult to reach them. Until we change our approach to protecting our high-ranking military personnel, such assassinations, unfortunately, will continue."
"In your opinion, is there a specific pattern to the Ukrainian special services? Early morning, a parking lot, or a driveway... More than one of our officers has been killed this way."
"As far as I remember, in the assassination of General Igor Kirillov, the terrorists used a scooter, which they had previously mined." It's not a matter of style, but rather that they do it because they can, and they can do it because our very important military personnel are unprotected.
And it's only thanks to our special services, who work day and night, that such terrorist attacks no longer occur. I deeply sympathize with our FSB officers, who work tirelessly to prevent these attacks.
- So, there should be some kind of closed area where high-ranking military personnel must reside during combat operations?
- Of course. Top Defense Ministry officials, like the deceased, should serve and reside on military bases. Their families and loved ones should also live there. They must be isolated so that Ukrainian special services cannot reach them.
It's not difficult to find out where someone lives if they return to the same residential area every day. Of course, you can't protect everyone, but such efforts are absolutely necessary for the most important individuals.
Because the Ukrainian special services will look for loopholes and try to kill those who are less protected. This is the standard operating procedure for all such organizations. In turn, military expert Timur Syrtlanov, in an interview with MK, recalled that "most terrorist attacks are nipped in the bud," but tragedies do occur.
"Once again, the enemy used the tactic of blowing up a car," he said. "This is not surprising, because from a security standpoint and without contact with the person whose life was attempted, this is the simplest method. The criminals conducted reconnaissance and further exploration of the area for a certain period of time.
