    JUST IN: ICE agents tried to enter the Consulate of Ecuador in Minneapolis, Minnesota earlier today, according to reports.

    In a statement by the Republic of Ecuador:

    "This morning, the Consul of Ecuador in Minneapolis reported that at approximately 11:00 a.m., an agent from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE) attempted to enter the Consulate’s facilities.

    Immediately, Consulate officials prevented the ICE officer from entering the consular premises, thereby ensuring the protection of the Ecuadorians who were present at the consulate at that time and activating the emergency protocols issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility.

    As a result, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic immediately submitted a formal note of protest to the Embassy of the United States in Ecuador, requesting that acts of this nature not be repeated at any of Ecuador’s consular offices in the United States."

    📌 Data from the Deportation Data Project reveals that the Ecuadorian community in #NewYork was the most affected by the immigration crackdown promoted by Donald Trump's administration. In the first 10 months of the period, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested 5,174 people in the city, of whom 1,224 were Ecuadorians, representing 24%.

    According to figures compiled by independent organizations, only 16% of the Ecuadorians detained had a previous criminal conviction. This data is raising alarms among community and human rights organizations.

    Deportations of Ecuadorians continue, while the situation in #Ecuador is marked by violence, economic crisis, and political tensions, according to human rights organizations.

    Yes. I posted this on the Turmoil in the United States thread on 8 February:

    ~~~
    Last week I met an Ecuadorian man at my mechanic's workshop. Like me, he was waiting for a small thing to be done to his car.
    He was about 40, was neat and well-dressed, and spoke excellent English. He was very polite, and I asked him where he'd learned to speak it so well.
    He told me he'd been working in New York for 4 years, there with a 100% legal Green Card. But suddenly his Green Card had been canceled (which I didn't think was possible), and a few weeks ago he was deported back to Ecuador. He was very philosophical about it. There had been nothing he could do.
    Iranian cultural center in Quito attacked by gang waving U.S. and Israeli flags
    A gang of 10 to 15 men attacked the Iranian Cultural Center in Quito Saturday night, injuring one man and causing several hundreds of dollar of damage. The attack came during evening prayers two days after the U.S. and Israel launched military strikes on Iran, killing Ayatollah Khamenei, the country’s leader.
    The attackers of an Iranian worship service in Quito left behind U.S. and Israeli flags.
    According to Quito Police Major Byron Flores, the gang entered the center at 6:45 p.m. shouting insults at worshipers and waving Israeli and U.S flags. An Iranian flag was burned outside the front door.
    “The men attacked some of those inside the building, broke furniture and smashed windows,” Flores said. “Several of those attending the prayer service were physically assaulted, one of them requiring treatment by paramedics.”
    According to Flores, some of the worshipers fought back against the gang, limiting the amount of damage to the center and forcing them to leave. He added that the attackers threw a canister of tear gas as well as rocks and bottles inside the center.
    Quito university professor Dax Toscano, who was present during the attack, described a scene of fear and chaos. “They entered with sticks, threw gas cans, insulted us, and threatened to kill people,” he said. “My glasses were broken, and I received a blow to the head. There were children reciting verses from the Quran, families celebrating the holy month of Ramadan, but these men attacked without mercy.”
    The attackers had left the building when police arrived, but Flores said that some identifications may be possible from video recorded at the scene.
    According to a spokesman for the center, women and children were present for prayers when the attack occurred. He said about 25 people were in the center during the attack celebrating Ramadan.
    Professor Dax Toscano Segovia relates his experience of the attack against the iftar at the Iranian Cultural Center in Quito. Shows an injury on top of his head, says they broke his glasses, shows a car that was vandalized.
    Woman carrying some sort of non-official (royalist?) Iranian flag: "Murderers! Out, terrorists! Out, murderers! It's over you [???] islamic sons of bitches! You guys have to get out of this country! Terrorists get out!"
    "Before the attack on the Iranian Cultural Center in Quito, the persons who assaulted the place held a caravan at the United Nations."
    "Quito, another video shows how a group of persons attacked the Iranian Cultural Center in the midst of the Ramadan activities and of what happened in the last few hours in the Middle East."
    Some shouts: "Get out of my country!" "Get out of Ecuador!"
    Professor Dax Toscano Segovia who was interviewed in one of the videos I retweeted above has his own Twitter account and has tweeted his own testimony and images:
    Just a personal note. I've been here for nearly 15 years now, and I've never once seen a single Chinese person. (But my guess is that if they're here, they'll either be up north in Quito, or in the coastal areas.)
    There are one or two black people who live here permanently and seem to be very well integrated. I may see maybe a couple a month. (One of them always tries to clean my windshield at a particular set of traffic lights. I always smile and say "No thanks, my car is very old and dirty", and he always laughs. )
    The Chinese referred to in the video didn't stay in Ecuador, just passed through on their way to the US.
    But inasmuch as the CCP is quite ruthless in targeting those they wish to punish, there may have been consequences for Ecuadorians living in Ecuador and in the US and for the Ecuadorian government for being so hospitable, as well as for the Chinese immigrants themselves.
    ❗️ US and Ecuador Launch Military Operation Against "Designated Terrorist Organizations" in the South American Country
    🇺🇸🇪🇨 Washington and Quito have deployed a strategy to combat drug traffickers on Ecuadorian soil, according to the US Southern Command.
    💬 "Together, we are taking decisive measures to confront the narcoterrorists who have long inflicted terror, violence, and corruption on citizens throughout the hemisphere," the group highlighted on X.
    👉 It also noted that the joint strategy demonstrates a "commitment" on the part of the "US partners in Latin America and the Caribbean to combat the scourge" of drug trafficking.
    🗣 "We commend the men and women of the Ecuadorian Armed Forces for their unwavering commitment to this fight, demonstrating courage and determination through ongoing actions against narcoterrorists in their country," said the group's commander, General Francis L. Donovan.
    Wow 🤯 Daniel Noboa's Ecuador 🇪🇨 — without citing a single cause — has just expelled the Cuban Embassy 🇨🇺 and declared *all* of its diplomatic personnel as persona non grata.
    Outrageous, unprecedented, and deeply ominous for hemispheric affairs under the Donroe Doctrine.
    Quote U.S. Special Forces have begun advising and supporting Ecuadorian commandos in raids against powerful narco-terrorist gangs. Newly released footage shows helicopter air assaults targeting cartel networks tied to the Sinaloa Cartel and CJNG that use Ecuador as a key cocaine export hub.
    Once one of the safest countries in Latin America, Ecuador has rapidly descended into cartel violence. In this video we break down the raids, the history behind the crisis, and what America’s expanding counter-cartel strategy means.
    🛑 Footage of the U.S. military bombing Ecuador’s Amazon last night. SouthCom alleges it was a counter-narcotics strike on a FARC guerrilla camp; I’m sure it’s just a coincidence that this province also happens to have one of Ecuador’s largest oil reserves. This province is home to 5 indigenous communities who’ve been organizing and resisting against mining corporations for decades. Just last week, the fascist Noboa dictatorship illegally changed the mining laws to expand resource extraction —despite more than 60% of the nation voting against mining this past November— in what many elected officials are calling an “unconstitutional abue of power”. The FARC guerrilla are a *formerly* Marxist organization born in response to the fascist Colombian state that massacred over 20,000 people between 1948-1958 and as resistance to centuries of unequal land distribution, exploitative working conditions, and the imperialist Cold War. Since then, the FARC is alleged to have been infiltrated and corrupted by drug cartels and other bourgeois agents, no longer acting in the interests of the working class. You know who else has been infiltrated by drug cartels? Ecuador’s Presidential Palace. The shipping company owned by fascist dictator, Daniel Noboa, was found with almost 30 million euros of cocaine in its cargo. Despite the findings of this international investigation, the United States continues to refer to Daniel Noboa as their “Number One partner in combatting drug trafficking in Latin America”. The irony.
    Just want to point out that literally the only US-based news outlet I can find reporting on last night’s bombing is Fox News lmao (of course they’re celebrating it). No Marxist or even just milquetoast anti-war outlet has bothered to say anything about it. Useless gringos.
    The Constitutional Court of Ecuador formally issued a judgment that holds the state legally responsible for the forced disappearance of the 4 Afro-Ecuadorian children who were kidnapped, murdered and burned to death by 17 soldiers in what legal expert, Marco Navas Alvear, says could open the possibility for an impeachment trial against Noboa and possible charges crimes against humanity (a girl can dream). The only true justice for these families would be a revolution against this dictatorship that stole their precious children from them.
