The attack on a Quran memorisation centre in #Sudan, which killed children inside, raises serious concerns about a recurring pattern of targeting places of worship and drawing them into armed conflict.

Targeting spaces that are meant to be safe havens for civilians not only violates the right to life but also undermines the right to practice religious rituals safely, highlighting a serious decline in respect for international humanitarian law.

🚨A Coalitions Of Rights Groups Demand ICC Investigation Into UAE’s Role In Sudan

The filing requests that the ICC prosecutor investigate potential criminal responsibility for UAE officials under Articles 25(3)(c) and 25(3)(d) of the Rome Statute.

Submission focuses on the UAE’s role in aiding the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), who are accused of committing genocide in Sudan, as well as noting the potential complicity of officials and intermediaries from Libya, Ethiopia, Chad, Somalia, Kenya, and Uganda.

Recently, Human Rights Watch revealed an Emirati role in transporting foreign fighters from Colombia to aid the RSF.

Amnesty multidisciplinary investigation affirms the RSF is carrying out genocide and ethnic cleansing in Sudan
    ——
A report from Amnesty International published on 2 July affirms that Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are committing genocide, crimes against humanity, and ethnic cleansing during their campaign to seize El Fasher.

The investigation, which involved interviewing 247 survivors and witnesses and analyzing extensive satellite imagery, details a horrifying array of abuses including mass executions, sexual violence, and the abduction of children from non-Arab ethnic groups—particularly the Zaghawa people.

Evidence confirms that civilians and critical infrastructure, such as the Saudi Maternity Hospital, were intentionally targeted to displace populations and render the region uninhabitable; RSF fighters were documented burning homes long after residents had fled to ensure they could not return.

The report highlights the "berm massacre," where hundreds were executed and thrown into a 57km network of trenches as they attempted to flee the city.

Furthermore, children have been deliberately targeted for abduction, rape, and forced recruitment, while RSF fighters used the slur falangay (indicating slavery) to label non-Arab civilians.

In response to these atrocities, the organization calls for a global arms embargo—specifically demanding that countries stop providing weapons to the UAE, the RSF's chief backer—and the immediate deployment of an independent international protection force to safeguard civilians.
