This is a gripe about the TV coverage of the T20 Cricket World Cup.

Despite many exciting matches so far; this experience is significantly impaired by loud and intrusive fake crowd sounds; that are being dubbed onto the spoken commentary.

(The TV company actually employs an agency to do this!)

Because they are fake, they are often inappropriate to the actual occasion, and do not reflect what is actually going on in the grounds.

Has anyone who watches other sports experienced this extremely annoying development in broadcasting?

This is part of a new post of mine on the Alex Honnold Free Soloing thread.

Dan Osman was a wild-man climber, very greatly loved and (by most standards!) undoubtedly just a little crazy.

Do watch this short video of Osman doing his first 'rope jump', back in 1998. (Like an improvised giant bungee jump, but far more dangerous.) However, as many had feared (even those who knew him well), his luck eventually ran out when one of the ropes broke.

And turn the volume up... Dan Osman would want that. The action (and the Metallica soundtrack) starts after a few seconds. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

The sport of politics and the politics of sport - the lines get blurred

I know pretty much nothing about Ice Hockey - apart from the fact that the players go whizzing around very fast all the time and I can't even see the puck - or the goals when they happen

But I did see that the USA have had a dramatic and historic win over Canada at the Winter Olympics, coming away with the Gold Medal and snatching victory in the last few seconds - then a young man, Jack Hughes giving an interview, battered and bruised with his front tooth broken.....

A moving, creative and emotional performance from twice world champion, Ilia Malinin (USA) during the Winter Olympics Gala demonstrations -

Something went wrong during the competition and although he was expected to do well and probably win he said that he felt negativity creep into his mind as he took to the ice and his legs felt like lead - the pressure and expectations really got to him + he consequently came 8th and was lampooned on 'social' media.... this had a detrimental affect on his mental health and his artistic portrayal of that was reflected in the incredible dance performance...

dressed in a hoody with the word 'fear' upside down on his chest he healed himself and brought the house down...

Ilia Malinin delivers breathtaking & emotional performance! 🥺 | Winter Olympics 2026 (5:47)

and there was this....... wow.....apparently the back flip on ice wasn't 'legal' and accepted in professional skating before, but it is now

Can’t vouch that there’s no AI amongst these clips. Some are pretty wild imo, but I was surprised by stuff like back flips back ten years go. The more I see of youngsters doing amazing feats of athletic sorcery, the more I reckon that Rupert is right about his Morphic Resonance theory.

From legit athletes pushing the envelope, to mature females pushing theirs, both boy and girl little kids same, and one business dressed middling aged man doing handstand on a board to back to on-feet and then iirc some regular simple but legit flatground trick. Sorry no timestamp. That man was as happy as the several squealing 5-7 y.o.’s lol. Kids’ shining was probs after some or numerous attempts, vibe from the businessman seemed to me to be of first go, how he glowed.

I want to think all the clips are real, but I welcome any analysis showing otherwise. AI is our present biggest challenge imo. Am determined to parse that out.

More light relief, if any may be needed. (The smilie is warranted, because this is a good-news story.)

Here's a video of a skier who was engulfed in so much super-deep powder snow that he was completely buried and could easily have suffocated. (It wasn't an avalanche!) One moral of the story might be that it's always wise not to ski alone.

A new sport, to me. Frisbees’ progeny. “Disc golf”.

Gets technical, per this chan’s MO.

Quote The coolest part about this is that Brad and Chad didn't ask me to say anything in particular.... they partner with wholesale dealers so you should be able to find MVP discs at your local disc golf store. If you'd like to explore what they make you can check out their website here. https://mvpdiscsports.com/

You can also find their products on Amazon, just look up "MVP Discs" or click here:
