    This is a gripe about the TV coverage of the T20 Cricket World Cup.

    Despite many exciting matches so far; this experience is significantly impaired by loud and intrusive fake crowd sounds; that are being dubbed onto the spoken commentary.

    (The TV company actually employs an agency to do this!)

    Because they are fake, they are often inappropriate to the actual occasion, and do not reflect what is actually going on in the grounds.

    Has anyone who watches other sports experienced this extremely annoying development in broadcasting?

    This is part of a new post of mine on the Alex Honnold Free Soloing thread.

    ~~~
    Dan Osman was a wild-man climber, very greatly loved and (by most standards!) undoubtedly just a little crazy.
    Do watch this short video of Osman doing his first 'rope jump', back in 1998. (Like an improvised giant bungee jump, but far more dangerous.) However, as many had feared (even those who knew him well), his luck eventually ran out when one of the ropes broke.
    And turn the volume up... Dan Osman would want that. The action (and the Metallica soundtrack) starts after a few seconds. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
    The sport of politics and the politics of sport - the lines get blurred
    I know pretty much nothing about Ice Hockey - apart from the fact that the players go whizzing around very fast all the time and I can't even see the puck - or the goals when they happen
    But I did see that the USA have had a dramatic and historic win over Canada at the Winter Olympics, coming away with the Gold Medal and snatching victory in the last few seconds - then a young man, Jack Hughes giving an interview, battered and bruised with his front tooth broken.....
    A moving, creative and emotional performance from twice world champion, Ilia Malinin (USA) during the Winter Olympics Gala demonstrations -
    Something went wrong during the competition and although he was expected to do well and probably win he said that he felt negativity creep into his mind as he took to the ice and his legs felt like lead - the pressure and expectations really got to him + he consequently came 8th and was lampooned on 'social' media.... this had a detrimental affect on his mental health and his artistic portrayal of that was reflected in the incredible dance performance...
    dressed in a hoody with the word 'fear' upside down on his chest he healed himself and brought the house down...
    Ilia Malinin delivers breathtaking & emotional performance! 🥺 | Winter Olympics 2026 (5:47)
    and there was this....... wow.....apparently the back flip on ice wasn't 'legal' and accepted in professional skating before, but it is now
    Can’t vouch that there’s no AI amongst these clips. Some are pretty wild imo, but I was surprised by stuff like back flips back ten years go. The more I see of youngsters doing amazing feats of athletic sorcery, the more I reckon that Rupert is right about his Morphic Resonance theory.
    From legit athletes pushing the envelope, to mature females pushing theirs, both boy and girl little kids same, and one business dressed middling aged man doing handstand on a board to back to on-feet and then iirc some regular simple but legit flatground trick. Sorry no timestamp. That man was as happy as the several squealing 5-7 y.o.’s lol. Kids’ shining was probs after some or numerous attempts, vibe from the businessman seemed to me to be of first go, how he glowed.
    I want to think all the clips are real, but I welcome any analysis showing otherwise. AI is our present biggest challenge imo. Am determined to parse that out.
    More light relief, if any may be needed. (The smilie is warranted, because this is a good-news story.)
    Here's a video of a skier who was engulfed in so much super-deep powder snow that he was completely buried and could easily have suffocated. (It wasn't an avalanche!) One moral of the story might be that it's always wise not to ski alone.
    For the very first time in cricket's renowned 254 year history, a bowler has taken 5 wickets in 5 balls in a First Class match.
    Here's Brett Randell playing yesterday for Central Districts vs Northern Districts in New Zealand's Plunkett Shield.
    There's no commentary (sadly!), but when the 5th wicket fell you can see everyone going bananacrackers about what just happened
    Sky Brown wins second skateboarding world title at rain-hit event in Brazil
    Quote Britain’s Sky Brown celebrated International Women’s Day by becoming a skateboarding world champion for the second time at a rain-curtailed park competition in São Paulo.
    The two-time Olympic bronze medallist was leading in Brazil after two runs, the halfway point, at which World Skate deemed “adverse weather conditions and recurrent rainfall” to have called time on proceedings.
    World Skate had given a 7pm (11pm GMT) deadline for Sunday’s competition to recommence, stating that “if any weather-related interruption occurs, the activity will not resume”.
    Only one competitor, Cocona Hiraki of Japan, managed to start a third run, before more falling rain forced officials to end the competition.
    Brown’s score of 88.16pts from her second run was therefore adjudged to be the winning score. The 17-year-old took the gold, with Japan’s Mizuho Hasegawa – second in the vert competition two years ago – adding a park silver to her collection with a score of 84.36, while 2023 park bronze-medallist Minna Stess repeated the feat with 83.90.
    Arisa Trew, Australia’s 2024 Olympic gold medallist in the discipline at the age of 14, finished fourth with 80.06.
    Brown, who won her first world title in Sharjah three years ago, admitted she was “bummed how we couldn’t fully do a final”, but told World Skate: “The level is crazy – I had to put a lot down to get here.
    “To win, to be a world champion on International Women’s Day definitely means a lot, but there are bigger things going on. This feels huge and I am so thankful, but there are bigger things. I just pray for peace.”
    In the men’s park competition, Spain’s Egoitz Bijueska retained his title thanks to a run of 95.83, ahead of Brazil’s Kalani Konig (94.80) and the USA’s Tom Schaar (90.51).
    Here is a mini doc abt Sky, from near 7 yrs ago, Apr 2, 2019.
    German athletes snub Russian Paralympic champions
    The skiers insist that Russians should not be allowed to compete under their own flag
    https://www.rt.com/russia/634553-ger...ralympic-snub/
    The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) is investigating German skiers Linn Kazmaier and Florian Baumann after they turned their backs on Russian gold medalists during a ceremony on Tuesday.
    Kazmaier, who is visually impaired, and Baumann, her guide, finished in second place to Russia’s Anastasia Bagiyan and guide Sergey Sinyakin in the women’s sprint race at the Milano Cortina Paralympics.
    Kazmaier and Baumann left their hats on and turned their backs to Bagiyan and Sinyakin as the Russian anthem played on the podium. They then kept their distance from the Russians and refused to join them in posting for a photo with China’s Jihong Cong and Jiaxuan Liu, who finished in third place.
    “With Germany, we are aware of the situation, gathering evidence and analyzing it,” IPC spokesman Craig Spence said on Wednesday.
    Speaking to German media, Kazmaier and Baumann insisted that they did nothing wrong. “I don’t know these people: maybe they don’t support the system in Russia either. Maybe they are really nice people who we could actually be friends with. But it’s such a shame that politics overshadows everything,” Kazmaier told German broadcaster ARD.
    This year’s games mark the first time that Russian and Belarusian athletes have been allowed to compete in the Paralympics since the Ukraine conflict escalated in 2022, and the first time that they have competed under their own flags since 2014.
    The IPC’s decision to readmit Russian and Belarusian athletes has angered Ukraine and its supporters. Ukraine and ten other countries, including Germany, boycotted the games’ opening ceremony on Friday in response.
    “I simply do not think it is right that the IPC has decided that Russia can compete here under its own flag, with its own anthem and with a full band, while the Ukrainians are also here,” Baumann told Germany’s ZDF on Wednesday.
    Kiev also lashed out at the International Olympic Committee (IOC) during last month’s winter Olympics, after several Ukrainian athletes were ordered to remove clothing and flags bearing political symbols. These included skeleton pilot Vladislav Geraskevich, who was disqualified for refusing to remove a helmet adorned with images of Ukrainian athletes killed during the conflict with Russia.
    Even though Russian athletes competed under a neutral flag and broke no rules at the games, Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky insisted that “they are the ones who deserve disqualification.”
    Russia’s six athletes have so far won four gold medals and two bronze at this year’s Paralympics. Bagiyan has taken two golds, and in a letter to the skier, Russian President Vladimir Putin praised her “strength of spirit and character,” and her “worthy contribution to the development of domestic and world Paralympism.”
    My near-worst ever boss, through several otherwise very cool teen age summer jobs, made I think a valid point about motorsports. He said “who is doing the work?”. He meant that engine power was cheating, that true sporting is human powered.
    He also let out loud f*rts while sitting eating lunch with me, within range of normal people by the lodge we were grounds-keeping, while exclaiming “JOHN, DON’T BE SO F*CKING IGNORANT!” So forget him, and on with this legit sports post.
    BTW, “Super Comp champ Kelly Kundratic, who scored the 400th win by a female in NHRA national event competition”, she won because her opponent jumped the light and was therefore disqualified. So she don’t count, but the others do, imo.
    Quote In addition to the exciting Mission Foods Drag Racing Series action at the season-opening Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals, nine winners were also crowned in the Lucas Oil classes, led by Super Comp champ Kelly Kundratic, who scored the 400th win by a female in NHRA national event competition.
    After scoring his first Top Alcohol Dragster win late last season, Jamie Noonan didn’t wait long to add a second victory as the alcohol-class engine builder powered to victory over Anthony Troyer in a title 5.24 to 5.25 final-round clash.
    Five-time and reigning Top Alcohol Funny Car world champ Sean Bellemeur scored his 49th career win, tying the great Don Prudhomme and Eddie Krawiec and moving to within one win of becoming just the 26th driver to record 50 or more wins, scoring a strong win over past U.S. Nationals champ Chris Foster, 5.43 to 5.48.
    2023 Super Stock world champ Peter D’Agnolo scored his second career Comp win and his seventh victory overall, driving his E/SMA '10 Cobalt to a .003-launched (-.49) 8.41 to chase down No. 1 qualifier Matthew Alvey’s better-but-later (-.53) 8.58.
    For the 109th time in his amazing career, Dan Fletcher scored an NHRA national event victory. Fletcher drove his Micro Strategies Camaro to the Super Stock title in a double-breakout final against Kent Hanley.
    Jeff Adkinson used a solid driving performance to claim the sixth win of his career. Adkinson, who was .030 or better on the Tree every round, topped Jim Marshall in the Stock final round with a 9.138 against his 9.15 dial.
    Kelly Kundratic scored the milestone 400th national event win for a female racer with her breakthrough Super Comp victory in Gainesville. Kundratic, the 107th woman in NHRA history to win a national event, collected the victory on Tim Millwood’s narrow -.003 foul start.
    Super Gas winner Jason Dewitt backed up his breakthrough first victory from last year’s Gatornationals, winning a double-breakout final-round bout with seven-time tour winner Steven Furr, 9.875 to 9.872.
    After several near misses, Jackie Bennett claimed his first national event title in Right Trailers Top Dragster by topping Holden Laris in the final round. Bennett kicked off the double-breakout final with a nearly perfect .002 light.
    A Top 10 finisher the last two years, James Hinkle ran his career record to a perfect 5-0 after beating Bruce Thaxton in the Right Trailers Top Sportsman final. Hinkle finished the job with a 7.301 against his 7.28 dial.
