I saw this on dailymail today and remember watching 'Alone in the Wilderness' years ago. In 1968 Richard Proenneke decided to leave society and build a cabin at Twin Lakes, Alaska. He planned to live there for just one year and ended up staying for thirty then left at age 81. The cabin was restored, and visitors can see how he lived and sign the ledger.

Quote Richard Louise "Dick" Proenneke (1916-2003) was a well-known Alaska hermit, living in a cabin near the shores of Twin Lakes, in what is now Lake Clark National Park. This film was produced by the National Park Service.

This video shows the lengthy and expensive process of making oboes. They aquire rare black wood from Africa. It takes five years to make one due to the aging process of the wood to prevent cracking. They could cost as much as $40,000.

    10/01/22 (8:23)

Quote A specialized woodwind with a wistful yet powerful tone, the oboe is one of the most expensive instruments you can buy. Professional-grade oboes can sell for almost $14,000. That's more than four times the price of some professional flutes. So, what goes into making oboes? And why are they so expensive?

    About The Film
Splintering Babylon” is a provocative documentary that explores the controversial theory of Nazi influence in the founding of major Western institutions such as the CIA, NATO, and the United Nations. The film presents a narrative that Wall Street, along with Prescott Bush—father of U.S. Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush—financially supported Adolf Hitler and the Nazi elite prior to World War II.
This film uncovers how the Nazis infiltrated Western governments, shaping modern society under the Fourth Reich master plan. It reveals the CIA’s portrayal of history, concealing stark realities and the dark agenda of the New World Order. Today, a growing awareness and resistance to these claims spotlight a corporate-government fascist state thriving on illicit trades in money, drugs, and human trafficking.

“Splintering Babylon” shines a light on how the tyrannical Babylon Beast system will come to an end per biblical prophecy thousands of years ago.

I pored through all the forum titles looking for a suitable home for this topic. I came to the conclusion the main forum is missing a certain sub-forum. Namely a General Knowledge category. Maybe?

So the meat offering could have gone in Survival threads, or perhaps Food Tips topic.

The Ice offering? History or maybe science?

You provide the feedback, should they be pidgeon-holed or more widely broadcast?

Ewan, we have these two threads from a while back:
Do you think we should merge these with your new thread, or did you have a slightly different angle in mind?

Yes, absolutely! I was sure there was a thread but I only searched for 'Interesting'. Go for it.

    From Bill:
Done. There were several other documentary threads as well, all merged now.

This video covers the obsession Hitler had the Spear of Destiny. A prisoner of war told an interrogator about an immense Nazi treasure under Nuremberg Castle. That report made its way to general George S. Patton who had a team locate the treasure. Strangely Eisenhower had to intervein in the general's attempt to acquire it as if they were aligned with two different secret societies. Whatever transpired must have caused the general's death via a supposed vehicle accident.

    10/30/24 (48:26)

Quote Hitler sought the Spear of Destiny, believed to be the weapon that pierced Jesus Christ's side, as a symbol of power and invincibility. In 1938, after annexing Austria, Hitler seized the spear from a museum in Vienna, taking it to Nuremberg to reinforce his image as the successor to the Holy Roman emperors. Art historian and U.S. Army officer Walter Horn, a German émigré, was tasked with tracking down the spear after it vanished during World War II. Following leads from German prisoners, Horn located the spear in a hidden vault beneath Nuremberg Castle, alongside other looted treasures.

Just a short Aussie Doco about a sweet old bloke named Cliff (Cliffy) Young, he was a potato farmer that had never kissed a girl, lived with his mum, and ran around the farm all day in gumboots.
At age 61 yrs he entered the Sydney to Melbourne ultramarathon........and beat the worlds best marathon runners to win .

Australians love an underdog and in May 1983, the entire nation cheered on an unlikely sporting hero – 61-year-old potato farmer Cliff Young.

When Cliff won the inaugural Sydney to Melbourne ultramarathon, he shuffled his way into the Australian folklore. Songs were written about him; a movie was made.

More than 40 years on from his astonishing run, friends and fellow runners look back at a simple man who showed you’re never too old to fulfil a dream.

Young seemed impervious to the mental anguish and was able to push aside the pain — the shoulder that he damaged in a fall outside Yass on the first day and the toll on his feet that saw him lose eight toenails by the end of the race.

Five days, 14 hours, and four minutes later, at 1:25 am, Young crossed the finish line in front of a crowd of thousands.
