Hitchcock's "Psycho" may seem an unlikely candidate for this thread, but not if you consider that the new Netflix movie (entitled "Psycho") is starring Anthony Hopkins as "Hitch" and Helen Mirren as his wife, Alma.
Like most Hollywood marriages I expect, theirs apparently had a third partner, which was the film-making industry of Hollywood itself.
But it's essentially a love story and the ending was uplifting.
There's an excellent, very detailed article about the making of the original movie here:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psycho_%281960_film%29
Some quotes from the article follow.

It's difficult to understand the impact "Psycho" had and the controversy it caused back in 1960 when it was released, if you haven't actually seen it.
It was a huge groundbreaker and so well done by Hitchcock and team that it left lasting impressions on countless audiences at the time, and its reputation stood the test of time.
"Entertainment Weekly voted it the 11th Greatest film of all time in 1999. In January 2002, the film was included on the list of the "Top 100 Essential Films of All Time" by the National Society of Film Critics. The film was included in Time's All-Time 100 best movies list in 2005. In 2005, Total Film magazine ranked Psycho as the 6th-greatest horror film of all time. In 2010, The Guardian newspaper ranked it as "the best horror film of all time". "

I never quite forgave my parents for taking me along with them to a drive-in theatre to see it when I was about 13 years old.
I had nightmares for weeks afterward due to the murder in the famous shower scene, as no doubt many people did.

"It is often claimed that, despite its graphic nature, the shower scene never once shows a knife puncturing flesh. However, a frame by frame analysis of the sequence shows one shot in which the knife appears to penetrate Leigh's abdomen, an effect created through lighting and reverse motion. Leigh herself was so affected by this scene when she saw it that she no longer took showers unless she absolutely had to; she would lock all the doors and windows and would leave the bathroom and shower door open.[94] She never realized until she first watched the film "how vulnerable and defenseless one is"."

The new film about "Psycho" is just as much about the making of the classic film as it is about the relationship between Hitchcock and his wife Alma, who was very instrumental in the making of the 1960 classic.
Hopkins and Mirren do a great job of showing the subtle nuances of their relationship, and it's an interesting glimpse into the personality of one of moviemaking's icons.

If you can suspend your distaste for what has become of Stephen King and Mark Hamill, this was actually pretty good. Since King was responsible for Shawshank and Stand by Me, decided to give it a chance. Done in the same narrative voice, most will find some worthy moments that resonate. Cue the soundtrack and add a little Walt Whitman and enjoy.

I actually watched this a few days ago, I was left feeling more confused about what actually happened at the end - maybe I missed something.

    Well, I'm surprised...

In theory this Thread isn't for Marvel movies,(teen stuff ), but for more complex thematic,development,nuances,surprises?...

Explain everything is to rob future viewers from their own "experiences" by watching themself...

    I never would do that...

Many reading this will be aware of (or have seen!) the classic 1957 Henry Fonda film 12 Angry Men (Wiki page here, which dives deeply into the history of the film and its lasting legacy). It most definitely fits into this thread's 'inspiring movies' theme. The film is widely acclaimed as a timeless masterpiece, with a stellar ensemble cast for that era, every actor at the top of his game.

Many critics have placed this in their top 10 films of all time, and a few have said that they hold it to be the finest movie ever made. (It's not too hard to understand why.) The modern Rotten Tomatoes rating is 100%, a rare thing.

I can't find the 1957 film on YouTube, but the whole thing is streamed perfectly here: However, this might be interesting (and perhaps unknown) to many readers. The original version was broadcast on CBS in 1954 as a TV play, winning three Emmy awards. It was once considered lost, but was rediscovered and is now on YouTube, embedded below.

What's really impressive about this original version is that as it was broadcast as a teleplay, it was filmed live all in one long take with none of the actors ever once fluffing their lines. (Quite something, considering that the film consists entirely of intense and emotional dialog from beginning to end.)

(If anyone reading this is unfamiliar with the film, do watch the 1957 classic first via the link above, which is longer and more nuanced. You'll be greatly moved and impressed. )

LIVE TV RESTORATION: Twelve Angry Men - Studio One (Original 1954 Broadcast)

    The YouTube text:
Before it was on the stage or a 1957 movie, "Twelve Angry Men" was a live teleplay on CBS Studio One. The film kinescope copy, thought to be lost until found a few years ago, is cleaned and restored to the original frame rate of live television, so you may see what it looked like when originally broadcast live.

This project was one of the more difficult of projects, due to the dirty film and poor sound quality on the soundtrack. Commercials are inserted from a show of the same season, as the originals are not on the film. This production was obviously one of "close quarters." See if you can notice various cameras moving in and out of the edge of the picture from time to time.

For best results watch in 720p60 by selecting it from the YouTube video settings.

The Drinker Recommends... Project Hail Mary

    The Critical Drinker

I had high hopes for this one, and for once, Hollywood delivered. Project Hail Mary was a great scifi adventure that treats both the source material and the audience with respect, and told a wonderful little story of friendship, loyalty and sacrifice between two of the most unlikely characters imaginable.
