Personally, I'm very much hoping that NATO's refusal to participate in Trump's war will have a sobering effect on the Trump administration.

NATO members: 'We didn't start this war.'

"NATO allies and other Western nations pushed back Monday on US President Donald Trump's demand that military alliance members help reopen the Strait of Hormuz, the critical conduit for crude oil Iran has effectively closed. FRANCE 24's Dave Keating reports from Brussels"

'Near universal refusal' - European leaders reject Trump's demand for Strait of Hormuz mission

EXPOSED: Trump & Russia Point to the Same Enemy — Britain's Empire Is Finished

    Promethean Updates
    Mar 16, 2026
    Summary:
00:00 The Monday Brief - EXPOSED: Trump & Russia Point to the Same Enemy — Britain's Empire Is Finished - March 16, 2026
02:30 Trump's Endgame: Sovereign Nations, Not Imperial Pawns
05:25 Russia Ups the Ante, Britain Named as the Saboteur
08:16 The New Geometry — Sovereign Nations at the UN

Today's Monday Brief with Susan Kokinda argues that while media attention fixates on Iran, a broader strategic shift is unfolding as great powers act in their own sovereign interests.

It highlights President Trump’s statements portraying Putin as willing to make a deal and Zelenskyy as the obstacle, alongside Trump and Defense Secretary Hegseth stressing that U.S. objectives in Iran differ from Israel’s, including a reported message to stop striking domestic economic targets.

It then examines Russia’s Foreign Ministry explicitly blaming Britain for using Storm Shadow missiles in Bryansk and for trying to derail U.S.-led peace efforts, amid Zelenskyy’s threat toward Hungary’s Viktor Orban and EU condemnation.

Finally, it notes Russia and China abstaining—not vetoing—a UN Security Council resolution condemning Iran’s missile and drone attacks on Gulf states, framing these moves as evidence the old paradigm of permanent conflict is breaking down.

The Agreement on Reciprocal Trade between Malaysia and the US is now null and void after the US Supreme Court struck down most of Trump’s tariffs.

MITI Minister Johari Abdul Ghani said the US is now relying on Section 122 of the Trade Act, which allows a temporary 10% tariff for 5 months.

⛔️ 🇲🇾🇺🇸 BREAKING: Malaysia just cancelled the US trade deal. Null and void. Not suspended. Gone.‼️

⛔️Signed five months ago by Trump and Anwar. Cut tariffs from 47% to 19%. The template for reciprocal trade‼️

⛔️Now it's cancelled Because the US Supreme Court ruled Trump can't impose tariffs that way.‼️

⛔️Malaysia's Trade Minister put it plainly: "It is not on hold. It is no longer there."‼️

Trump's director of counterterrorism Joe Kent just submitted his resignation. See his full letter in the X post below, where Kent is stating that he supported Trump on the basis of the 'no more wars' promises he made during his electoral campaigns, promises that Trump has broken.

    Joe Kent - March 17, 2026:

"After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today.

I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.

It has been an honor serving under
    @POTUS
    and
    @DNIGabbard
and leading the professionals at NCTC.

    May God bless America."

Absolute betrayal. Tulsi Gabbard campaigned on stopping regime change wars, but now that Trump has launched a massive war on Iran, she is completely silent. Even as her top deputy resigns in protest, she refuses to speak out. The anti-war stance was a total fraud.

    Furkan Gözükara

Massive callout of Tulsi Gabbard. She built her entire career on being anti-war, sponsored the No War With Iran Act, and warned Americans would die. Now she sits silently in the administration while Trump wages a full-scale war on Iran. The hypocrisy is staggering.

Easy there, accusing someone of being perfidious is a bit perfidious itself. Your pecksniffian character is clearly hornswoggling everyone with that holier-than-thou act; you must think of yourself as a master mischief maker. I think you might get the award for the best tartuffian of the year.

Tulsi was in the news today. She decided to coadjut to his Iran policy, silently endorsing it with a nod that left no doubt about her agreement.

Tulsi Gabbard Sides With Trump On Iran, Underscores Commander-In-Chief Role

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard laid out her defense for President Donald Trump and his decision to take action, alongside Israel, against the Iranian regime.

Gabbard argued that it was her job to ensure that the president had the best and most accurate information possible, but it was Trump’s responsibility alone to determine what does and does not constitute an “imminent threat” against the United States.

“Donald Trump was overwhelmingly elected by the American people to be our President and Commander in Chief. As our Commander in Chief, he is responsible for determining what is and is not an imminent threat, and whether or not to take action he deems necessary to protect the safety and security of our troops, the American people and our country,” Gabbard posted on Tuesday.

“The Office of the Director of National Intelligence is responsible for helping coordinate and integrate all intelligence to provide the President and Commander in Chief with the best information available to inform his decisions,” she continued. “After carefully reviewing all the information before him, President Trump concluded that the terrorist Islamist regime in Iran posed an imminent threat and he took action based on that conclusion.”

Gabbard’s statement comes just hours after Joe Kent announced his resignation as the director of the National Counterterrorism Center, claiming that there was no “imminent threat” to the United States and that Trump had been pushed by Israel into waging war against the Iranian regime.

Kent, according to an intelligence official who spoke with The Daily Wire’s Mary Margaret Olohan, had been excluded from planning and briefings regarding the war with Iran. That same official refuted earlier reporting stating that Gabbard had been advised to fire Kent, but had failed to do so.

“Intelligence official tells @realDailyWire that it’s true that Joe Kent wasn’t part of the planning of the Iran war or briefings on the war,” Olohan reported. “It is not true that DNI’s Tulsi Gabbard was asked by the White House to fire Kent, source says— if she had been asked to do so, she would have fired him.”

    An End of Empire
    Greg Reese
    Mar 17 2026
    https://gregreese.substack.com/p/an-end-of-empire

    (Podcast at the link)

"Despite having the world’s most powerful navy, the United States cannot force the Strait of Hormuz open, which every US military expert knew would be closed if Iran was attacked. This is why the US Navy is miles away. And it is why America’s NATO Allies are refusing to participate.

The Iranians may have suffered the brutal Shock & Awe of the United States military, but they have been preparing for decades, and as the US is already running low on weapons, Iran has plans for a long term asymmetrical war, a defensive fight for their very existence. Iran has the moral high ground and they are holding practically all the cards.

By his own admission, Trump expected a quick, decisive victory. He ignored warnings from experts, and instead, listened to his son-in-law Jared Kushner, Steve Witkoff, and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes.

With a smile on his face, the President of the United States has said that it’s fun to kill the Iranians, and that they are genetically inferior. By any historical standard, America has never had a president speak in such a manner. It has been confirmed that the United States has murdered almost two hundred school girls with Tomahawk missiles fired at an elementary school. Trump said he can live with it, and Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, said there would be ‘no quarter, no mercy’.

While ongoing US-Iran nuclear talks were taking place in Geneva, Israel launched major airstrikes against Iran, followed by the US. Iran and the US began negotiations again in Geneva early last February, and Iran agreed to degrade its nuclear stockpiles. Two days after negotiations ended, Trump attacks Iran. Deceptive diplomacy has been used to attack Iran twice in the past year, it would be unreasonable for them to trust anything that the US and Israel have to say. And it only encourages Iran to develop nuclear weapons, which they have yet to do.

During the Korean War, the United States targeted the civilian population, killing approximately 20% of them, and destroyed nearly every major city in a “scorched earth” strategy, which included targeting dams to destroy the agricultural economy. This resulted in North Korea developing their own nuclear deterrent, a predictable outcome to an existential threat. And Trump recently admitted what the whole world already knows, that Israel has their own nuclear weapons. So why on Earth would Iran not want to build their own?

The US Director of National Intelligence, Joe Kent, just submitted his letter of resignation. He wrote Trump that, “It is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful lobby.” and illustrated how, “Early in this administration, high-ranking Israeli officials and influential members of the American media deployed a misinformation campaign that wholly undermined your America First platform and sowed pro-war sentiments to encourage a war with Iran. This echo chamber was used to deceive you into believing that Iran posed an imminent threat to the United States, and that should you strike now, there was a clear path to a swift victory. This was a lie and is the same tactic the Israelis used to draw us into the disastrous Iraq war that cost our nation the lives of thousands.” He ended his resignation by writing, “I pray that you will reflect upon what we are doing in Iran, and who we are doing it for. The time for bold action is now. You can reverse course and chart a new path for our nation, or you can allow us to slip further toward decline and chaos. You hold the cards.”

On the subject of Israel, the US public discourse has changed dramatically. How this can overcome AIPAC’s influence over an Epstein-compromised Congress is yet to be seen. But our founding fathers would certainly argue that a government of criminal child rapists should be abolished rather than allowed to drag the entire world into chaos and war.

Trump is not known for being a reasonable man when it comes to humility, and as Alexander Dugin recently wrote, “Trump’s now totally free. Nothing can destroy his reputation more than it is destroyed already. No publication of Epstein files concerning his alleged criminal actions can make his image worse.” "

( I would say that even if Trump is exonerated from serious wrong-doing associated with the Epstein files, his public image is a clear demonstration of how far things have proceeded on a downward spiral internationally, teetering once again on the edge of world war. Not that that is Trump's fault, but he has certainly been an interesting pick for a POTUS. Would a saner, more moral person even have wanted to take on the duties of POTUS this time around? It will be interesting to see if Tulsi will want to...)

What the whole planet has been seeing for now a fuul year, except Americans

“Based on the V-Dem Institute's Democracy Report 2026 (released in March 2026), the University of Gothenburg’s Varieties of Democracy project found that the United States is undergoing a rapid, "unprecedented" decline in democracy, with its status falling back to levels not seen since 1965.
    V-Dem
    V-Dem
    +1
Key Findings on American Democracy Loss (2025-2026 Report):
Sharpest Decline in History: The report notes that during the first year of Donald Trump's second term, American democracy experienced a faster deterioration process than any other democracy in modern history.
Loss of Liberal Status: The USA has dropped out of the top 50 nations and is no longer classified as a "Liberal Democracy" in the 2026 assessment.
Rapid Autocratization: V-Dem describes a "rapid and aggressive concentration of powers in the presidency".
Failed Checks and Balances: The report highlights a significant failure of Congress to apply oversight, suggesting it has abdicated its role in favor of the executive branch.
Comparison to Coups: The speed of the decline in 2025 was described by researchers as comparable to some coups d'état.
Key Indicators Falling: Key areas of decline include government censorship, intimidation of the judiciary, and attacks on the press, academia, and civil liberties.

The report's author, Professor Staffan I. Lindberg, stated that if trends continued throughout 2025, the U.S. would "definitely" be reclassified as a non-democracy, a threshold they stated was crossed in their March 2026, version 16 dataset update. “

The research also state that it had taken 10 years to Erdogan in Turkey to attain this level of autocracy and 4 years to Hunfgary, but one yeat in the USA.

It would be interesting to see a comparison of that decline along with the decline of funds the US has been steadily sending offshore.
But the most important decline is that one demonstrating how much the US (and the world) has fallen into the hands of the global elite, and that's not as easy to uncover...

I agree with the fallen in the hands of the global elite thing, I would say that the destruction of democracy and of the US has been in their plan for a looong time.

However I do not think there is any correlation with loss of democracy on the verge of autocracy and the amount of money US sends abroad. Why? Because your numbers are often skewed. For example, multiple times Trump complained -played victim - about the unbalanced trade deficit US would have with Canada.

On the Canadian side there was no US trade deficit if we took away the oil we sell to US, oil that is refined in US refineries, on US land, sold at a huge discount price to US. This is what caused The US trade deficit with Canada, advantaging US for having cheap oil refined in USA.

I bet anything you have been sold those kind of lies for most countries. And this is precisely what autocracy does

I don't think it's ALL been lies. These listed sources (resulting from a partial and very brief search) are no doubt biased, but there cannot be NO basis at all for their claims that the US has been sending money and other resources abroad, from various sources from government, NGOs to non-profit.

Anyone heard from Tulsi Gabbard? Why hasn't she resigned yet? I can't imagine continuing to work for perfidious Trump.

“It is not true that DNI’s Tulsi Gabbard was asked by the White House to fire Kent, source says— if she had been asked to do so, she would have fired him.”

    https://www.dailywire.com/news/tulsi...action-in-iran
That article's title is inaccurate. Essentially the article says that Tulsi Gabbard passed the information to Trump, and that the decision making is Trump's responsibility. However, there's nothing in that article stating that Tulsi agrees with Trump's decision to start a war against Iran. She is just passing the buck, and not referring at all to her previous report that Iran posed no immediate threat.

As for "perfidious Trump", there are MAGAs all over the internet lately, feeling betrayed by Trump who completely turned around and broke his promise of 'no more wars'. They call him much worse names than 'perfidious', believe me.

Be calm, my bothers and sisters. Or try to be calm, if you can eschew the vibrant life/kick that being activist/ornery gives you. That energy kick always has a debt attached. Where do you think that that kick of energy comes from? Do you know who you will owe, if you accept that?

Remember what counts: your evenness, your own peace. Don’t trade that for kicks.
