I thought maybe I should sit on my hands. [If you are former military, you know what that means.] Having served over 6 years; [left home age 17.] I feel like I have some skin in the game. Now granted, I am not always proud of america and voice my dissent. But it is strenuous dealing with the onslaught of click bait on PA and the emphasis of canadian posters [they don't just hate trump, they hate america. Ok we get it.]. The smallest groups make the most noise, the squeaky gears that get the attention. And there used to be a few americans on PA relentlessly backing up america. They were run off, silenced, or otherwise rejected. I remember them from some years ago even though I've only been here almost 5 years. So if I speak up, maybe I earn the same fate, or sit on my hands and not type what I'm thinking.

Conscientious objectors are frowned upon among american service people - going back decades. Americans are extremely proud to serve. Slackers are not treated well and do not last long or turn over a new leaf after awhile of peer-pressure [volunteers or conscripts]. Pressure to perform is a daily stressor for active duty. The few squeaky gears are not the majority. The military spends a lot of resources and money training people to be ready. They want a return on their investment by way of quick's the word and sharp's the action.

These people calling the hotline will do so under cover of darkness. They will probably be discharged dishonorably. They will never discuss their military service as it sort of didn't happen. They won't receive any of the 'Veteran' benefits. There is no majority that will follow through with this action; silent or otherwise out of 2 million active duty and reservist service members. [The actual numbers that DEI so-called protected is like 6% - and that is probably generous.]

Ask any american who served in vietnam about why they hate jane fonda. That is an interesting story of someone not backing the war-fighter in an era of conscripted service or what did Ted Nugent do to avoid the draft [real class act there]? And how many people defected to canada to avoid the draft? [Somewhere around 3o,ooo give or take.]

And I did have a little talk with my daughter and it wasn't about avoiding service. She was born with a bit of a medical situation that could disqualify her from military service and I told her that and I mentioned since she is graduating from university this May, she would be qualified to enter service as a officer in the vocation she is trained for, as a Nurse. I told her not to worry but be aware. [Her mother is also former military so daughter knows what is up.]

This is a double edged blade. Support the service person, support the war. It cuts and it bleeds. But there is a middle ground somewhere and I will find it.

Thank you Rizotto. To me this is the biggest hurdle - will the American military stand up for Truth? Will the armed forces of America finally realize they've been lied to, drop their weapons, and walk away? Will they refuse to fight another war for the bankers and the??? Will they stand not only with the American people but with the people of the world and refuse to kill their brothers for the psychopaths orchestrating this Truman Show. It has to be obvious at this point that Trump is compromised and can no longer be trusted to act in the public interest. But keep in mind that since Trump is trying hard to turn Canada into a '51st state', we Canadians are taking a very close look at what he's doing to the people of his own country and the rest of the world. I can assure you that the great majority of Canadians do NOT want anything to do with Trump's unprovoked war against Iran. And we want to remain Canada, by the way.

Most Canadians (including yours truly) really like most USA citizens. We like your constitution, especially the free speech clause (or 'amendment', as you call it. One of these days I'll try and find out why the USA constitution consists of 'amendments'). But something has gone seriously wrong in the USA over the past few decades, a malignant infiltration which is terribly harming the country. This foreign malignant infiltration is not something that Canadians just imagined. In fact, there's a large number of american journalists and geopolitical analysts all over the internet discussing this situation. A parasite has taken control of the powerful USA military and using it for its own foreign interests.

All americans should examine and question that. Especially those with the military.

I can see that once war is raging, it would not be practical for individual soldiers in the heat of the battle to assess the legitimacy of each and every order. But before getting to that point, let's all take the time to analyse a war context from a wider perspective. Military should absolutely resign if they see violations of the constitution or criminality in a war.

You mentioned the Vietnam war. How many millions were killed and for what? Was this justified? Same for the Iraq war, the Afganistan war, all these covert and very harmful regime change operations, etc. Seems like the result of these USA-made conflicts is that a few elites profited, but the masses got either fleeced or killed for no good reason.

Couple of questions for you, based on your military experience:
- If Trump ordered a military take-over of Canada, do you think the USA military should do it without question?
- Are american soldiers in military school taught about international law? About their duty to disobey illegal orders?

I think Trump is unprofessional and somewhat clue-less when it comes to global matters. To the point where it is embarrassing. That is what I think.

Amendments are so called due to they were not original ideas inside of the constitution, but amendments of the constitution as literally as important as the original document.

America has won one single solitary military conflict since WWII and that was the liberation of Kuwait around 199o. There is something wrong with the machine. Everyone knows it. The happy medium I seek is to support the war-fighter and their sacrifice even if the wider conflict cannot be supported. But all of these past conflicts were notably not in america's best interest.

Service people are governed by the Constitution and by the Uniform Code of Military Justice. There is training on following lawful orders. The officer corps of the american military is very professional so the occurrence of an 'unlawful order' would be rare. Not impossible, but rare. Rare enough not to affect the military overall.

There would be no 'military take-over' of our neighbor to the north. I guess it isn't as preposterous as it looks given venezuela and cuba but you really think Trump is going to 'invade' canada? Seriously? Like canada is going to fight some kind of revolution against the united states for independence? I mean let that sink in. This is where trump says the most unprofessional things and people continue to take him seriously.

Let's examine the 51st state problem. Only congress has the 'sole authority' to admit a new u.s. state. Generally, this is after the area is designated a u.s. territory. [canada is not a u.s. territory.] Trump cannot make a territory a new state. It's impossible. But I understand most canadians would not know that.

However, USA has recently conducted unprovoked attacks on Venezuela and Iran, which killed many civilians. These unprovoked attacks are in violation of international law.

The USA has also put a blockade on Cuba which is causing terrible hardship on the civilian population. Also a violation of international law.

This is why most people on the planet can see that the USA military is following criminal orders. Following criminal orders makes one a criminal.

If the USA military would stand down and refuse to do these criminal actions, the current destructive madness would stop.

U.S. military veterans are conducting outreach campaigns across the country to let active duty soldiers know they have a right to refuse to serving in Trump's illegal war on Iran. This comes as the Pentagon weighs sending 10,000 more U.S. military personnel to West Asia.

U.S. casualties in the war are nearing 750 wounded or killed, despite Central Command evacuating soldiers from its bases in the region. On Wednesday, Iranian forces claimed they struck and killed 37 U.S. military officers in the UAE and Bahrain.

US Troops Need To Start Disobeying Orders In Iran, And Other Notes

The president of the United States has a bat **** crazy post on Truth Social once again threatening to blow up civilian infrastructure in Iran, saying, “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the ****in’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell — JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah. President DONALD J. TRUMP.”

At this point if you’re in the US military you have a moral obligation to start refusing orders. Desert. Become a conscientious objector. Ideally, get everyone together and launch a full-scale military coup. We’re in “Mad King” territory. Someone’s gotta do what needs to be done.

Promoters of this war told the world it was about liberating the Iranian people from tyranny to bring them freedom and democracy. Now that they got their war it’s about bombing them “back to the Stone Age”, stealing their oil, and blowing up their bridges and power plants.

The only people dumber than Americans who bought into Trump’s “ending the wars” shtick are the Iranians who believed the United States was going to bring freedom to their country.

The Jerusalem Post just ran an opinion piece on Zohran Mamdani which includes the sentence, “It is time for the mayor of New York City to stand in solidarity with Muslim leaders who eschew antisemitic tropes, such as ‘genocide’ and ‘occupation,’ and are committed to a new and broader regional alignment in the Middle East.”

It’s been fun watching Israel apologists invent “antisemitic tropes” in real time. The words “genocide” and “occupation” are antisemitic tropes now, apparently. According to pro-Israel groups like the Anti-Defamation League and B’nai Brith, the phrases “Epstein class” and “Operation Epstein Fury” are also recent additions to the no-no list.

In reality these so-called “antisemitic tropes” are just effective talking points used to highlight facts that are inconvenient to Israel and its allies. Every relevant human rights group on earth agrees that Israel is an occupying force in the Palestinian territories. Every relevant human rights group on earth has accused Israel of genocide in Gaza. The phrase “Epstein class” makes the rich and powerful people who rule our society look as creepy and suspicious as they should look. “Operation Epstein Fury” highlights President Trump’s place in the Epstein Files, which a majority of Americans believe played a role in his decision to attack Iran.

We see this all the time. Effective pro-Palestine political slogans like “Globalize the intifada” and “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” are labeled antisemitic not because they express hatred toward Jews but because they are effective.

That’s all it ever is. Israel apologists see a phrase or slogan hurting Israeli information interests and go “Uh, okay so you can’t say those words anymore. Those words make Jewish people feel unsafe.”

And then the phrases get banned. Here in Australia we just saw the state of Queensland ban the phrase “from the river to the sea” on penalty of two years in prison. For no other reason than because it’s something people chant at pro-Palestine protests.

Antisemitism isn’t the target of these laws; the protests themselves are the target. They’re designed to shut down pro-Palestine demonstrations by making so many speech suppression laws that nobody would attend one without a lawyer present to advise them on what they may and may not say.

The very first time someone told me “from the river to the sea Palestine will be free” was a hateful genocidal chant I thought it was the most ridiculous thing I’d ever heard, and to this day I still feel that way. It’s a completely counter-intuitive claim that makes no sense on first hearing it. It is only by the constant repetition of the assertion that it’s an antisemitic slogan that people began accepting this transparently absurd idea. They just said it over and over again in an authoritative tone until people started to buy it.

Nobody actually believes these words and phrases are hateful toward Jews, they’re just pretending to believe that to promote the information interests of a genocidal apartheid state. That’s all we’re ever looking at with this nonsense.

This fuel crisis really looks like it’s going to hurt. From a big-picture perspective it’s probably a good thing for westerners to feel some sting from their empire’s wars, and for US allies to start re-evaluating their relationship with Washington. But from a selfish perspective, damn this is gonna suck.
