"Hard Sun" I just stumbled upon a BBC/HULU collaboration, a series entitled "Hard Sun" from 2018, which is currently playing on HULU in the US.
It only ran for one season of 6 episodes, and didn't get very good reviews, but the subject matter is of interest because the premise upon which the series is based concerns an extinction event caused by the Sun, due to happen in 5 years in the series' timeline which is more or less present day in reality.
(For other Avalonians in particular who follow the "Geomagnetic Reversals and Ice Ages" it may also be of interest.)
I think the reason for the series' lack of distinction is that it was presented primarily as a crime drama, focusing on characters who become dysfunctional or violent (one serial killer in particular) when they learn about the extinction event, which was being kept secret by the government but was leaked to the press.
In the series, the actual extinction event itself was so downplayed that I think it was wasted as the topic around which the plot revolved.
The "Hard Sun" data was discredited and labeled as "misinformed conspiracy theory", but the aftermath of the leak had to be dealt with by the 2 main characters, in the police force, and that is what served as the main focus.
Though in general the series helps to explain why, in reality, making that information public and legitimizing it would probably result in public panic and chaos, the treatment of the extinction event information itself was so poorly done that it's no surprise the series wasn't renewed.
It's a shame that opportunity was wasted, but perhaps there will be another, better attempt in time.

Premise
Hard Sun is a pre-apocalyptic crime drama set in contemporary London. The protagonists are two mismatched police officers, Charlie Hicks and Elaine Renko, who stumble upon proof that a mysterious cosmic event will destroy the earth in five years, a fact the government is trying to keep secret to avoid complete anarchy. The duo is pursued by MI5 operatives who are trying to silence them for good.[12]
Critical reception
Reviews for the first season were mixed. On the review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, the first season holds a 50% approval rating with an average rating of 6.46 out of 10, based on 30 reviews. The website's critical consensus reads, "Hard Sun's heady mix of narrative and visual flourishes buckle under a surfeit of clichés that ultimately weigh it down and leave the show a muddled mess."[13] Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned the season a score of 46 out of 100 based on 9 critics, indicating "mixed or average reviews".[14] "
It does cause the question to arise as to whether it's:
...better for some people not to know the end is near
...better for others to know because they will feel a need to prepare
...better for still others to know because they intuit something is coming and are better able to accept that, once they know just what it is.
