    The cry of despair from Kyria...
    Kyria is a farmer who runs a farm-inn in France. She has become a leading figure in the fight of farmers against the administration and the French government, which have been imposing livestock culls and forced vaccinations since the emergence of bovine nodular dermatitis, measures that are unnecessary.

    She just saw her business and personal bank accounts frozen, including her online fundraiser. She had to open a new fundraiser in the USA to be able to raise funds. In this short, she faces the gendarmes once again and confronts them with themselves, with what they do to the farmers. She works 80 hours a week and earns €650. This is the daily life of many farmers (the suicide rate in the profession is terrible). All this just to be treated "like a terrorist" and to be dragged through the mud by the people she helps to feed.

    This is what my country has become, this 'sweet France.'
    A grinding machine

    There are threads that request advice and experiences on specific vitamins, minerals and alternative medicines. I suspect that my perspective wouldn’t be well received there, so I’ll share it here instead.

    Full disclosure: I do keep supplements and take them occasionally. It’s less than ten pills over the course of a couple of weeks. I’ve also experimented with alternative substances such as methylene blue, ivermectin, MMS, hydrogen peroxide, and pine turpentine, using them in an effort to counter potential contaminants in water, air, and food.

    Lately, though, I’ve been questioning that approach and feeling a pull to slow down, listen more carefully, and place greater trust in my body’s own signals and balance. (again)
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    I use supplements sparingly. I understand we’re all different, and it’s up to each of us to figure out what works best for our own system.
    My thinking has evolved over the years. Back in the 1970s, I was one of those taking “fistfuls of supplements,” influenced by Adelle Davis, who advocated for high-dose vitamin use and proper nutrition. My go-to bible was her, Let’s Eat Right to Keep Fit and Let’s Get Well.
    Today, my view is more measured. I see supplements as tools for correcting deficiencies or filling gaps in the diet. For example: 1) Iron when levels are low 2) B12 for those who are deficient (common in vegans) 3) Vitamin D when sunlight exposure is limited
    Supplements are not a substitute for good nutrition, exercise, quality sleep, and managing chronic stress. I also trust that the body has built-in systems that are designed to maintain balance: liver, kidneys, lungs, and gut.
    Some guiding thoughts I come back to based on my research and experience:
    • Do the basics exceptionally well, and supplement only where it meaningfully helps.
    • The body evolved to process nutrients primarily from whole foods, not large numbers of isolated compounds.
    • More isn’t always better. Excess supplementation can sometimes:
    1. Disrupt normal balance
    2. Interfere with natural regulatory processes
    3. Lead to diminishing or even negative returns
    My goal now is less about adding more, and more about supporting what already works.
    When "Rona" started (which I've never got nor been vaccinated for), I started taking a series of supplements to prevent getting sick. So far so good. They are:
    Magnesium
    B12
    C
    Calcium
    Zinc
    D3
    What do you think?
    From one perspective, the mind is a powerful tool that can reshape perception. If taking supplements brings peace of mind, then it has value.
    I keep a variety of supplements, including a multivitamin, but I don’t take them daily. High doses of certain vitamins like the fat-soluble ones such as A, D, E, K stress the liver and kidneys because they have to process the excess intake.
    I’ve come to agree with the idea that more isn’t always better when it comes to supplementation. Taking too many, or taking them unnecessarily, can place extra strain on the body and disrupt the nutrient balance. Beyond a certain point, benefits tend to level off and may even become negative.
    For that reason, I’ve found that a “less is better” approach works well for me, and it aligns with both my experience and what I’ve learned over time.
    * As mentioned in the last post, consistent attention to diet, exercise, sleep, and stress management keeps my body strong and more resilient against illness.
    Ah - I'm good then - I only take one fistful (not plural fists), and have been doing so since the 1970's.
    (Though I do have unusually large hands ... so the vitamin pill companies need not worry.)
    One key distinction might be whether one is living off the land, or off store bought food.
    I was healthy as a horse (well, a pony) my first ten years, on my father's small dairy farm, living off the land. I doubt I took one "vitamin" pill that entire ten years.
    But at age ten, we moved into town, and I took up my life since then mostly indoors, with a book (back then) or a computer (as soon as I walked into the first room that had one), and living off store bought food. Supplements become more essential then, albeit a health, complexity, and financial compromise.
    I’m aware of “pretend” foods, chips and dips, and sugary treats. I’m aware of the role synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, and industrial processing play in the modern food system.
    I want to move in a different direction. I’m approaching this as an experiment that our bodies come equipped with built-in repair systems. Over time, that natural balance can get lost. I want to see how well the body can function when it’s properly supported. I’m also exploring what it means to reset programed beliefs. Some of my work-progress-ideas are quality over quantity, keep things simple and avoid excess tonics, pills, and foods that gunk up the works.
    It’s a lofty goal, but if I don’t try, I’ll always wonder why I settled into patterns that didn’t serve me. This is also about stepping away from the constant stream of emotionally charged, repetitive information of point-counter point health debates, and choosing something more intentional.
    So instead of waiting for the perfect moment, I’m choosing to begin now, learning, adjusting, and seeing where the experiment leads.
    Yes, the body comes with a variety of systems, to build, repair, defend, and energize us. There is lots of redundancy and overlap in the systems, and various ways that each essential nutrient is used in various such systems. So long as we are blessed with these physical bodies, we can continue to sort these complexities out.
    Our body's systems require a variety of essential nutrients, which a healthy diet can obtain from the waters, plants, animals, and fish of a healthy environment.
    It is difficult to replicate such a diet in a modern grocery store, even for a careful shopper, unless they also supplement.
