St. Petersburg Economic Forum, the first day opens

Despite the intimidation, the first day of the St. Petersburg Economic Forum opened without issues.

130 countries represented, hundreds of journalists, and a strong presence from BRICS economies

⚡️🇷🇺 American journalist Candace Owens will speak at a session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on family values.

The journalist recounted the harassment she faced due to her trip to Russia. She was confronted with attacks and accusations of involvement in a "Russian plot":

💬"They started lying about me, saying that I came here to work, that I was collaborating with certain people, that I was funded, that I was allegedly violating laws."

    Global Impact Intelligence

    Translated from French
🟦 **Saint-Petersburg 2026: Moscow Exposes the Extent of Its Networks.** The official American presence at the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum constitutes one of the most closely watched signals of the 2026 edition. After several years of absence, Washington is once again accepting to be represented at an event that illustrates Moscow's ability to maintain channels of dialogue and business beyond the Western bloc. Scheduled from June 3 to 6, the forum is expected to bring together more than 20,000 participants from over a hundred countries. This turnout proves that Russia remains integrated into a large portion of the world's economic circuits despite Western sanctions. The results claimed in 2025—1,116 agreements for more than 6,500 billion rubles—provide clear illustration of this. The designation of Saudi Arabia as the guest of honor carries particular significance. It comes on the occasion of the centenary of diplomatic relations between the two countries and confirms Riyadh's growing place in Russia's foreign policy priorities, particularly in the energy, financial, and strategic domains. For Moscow, the objective is clear: to demonstrate that centers of decision-making and growth are no longer limited to the Euro-Atlantic perimeter. #globalimpact #SPIEF2026

    Translated from Italian
Greetings from the St. Petersburg Economic Forum

I can assure you that Russia is in no way pleased with this attack on its own territory, supported by the EU.

If they should react (Putin's patience could run out sooner or later), please do not write that the attack was “unprovoked”

    Let’s clarify one thing:

Ukraine can do whatever it wants and respond to any Russian military operation it deems appropriate, including attacks against Russian territory, and if it does so, the conflict will remain between Russia and Ukraine. If that’s the case, it’s their business

However, if other countries like the European Union, and the government #Meloni #Salvini #Tajani, actively support Ukraine and offer any kind of help—military, money, logistics, even bread and butter—that in any way facilitates Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory, then these EU member states, Italy included, will be directly responsible and could be subject to Russian retaliation, which in that case would be widely provoked (let’s hope not, and let’s hope in President Putin’s patience

    Dear
    @GiorgiaMeloni

    @matteosalvinimi

    @Antonio_Tajani
, let’s see if you understand it this way:

If Zimbabwe bombs Rome with the support of the State of Atlantis, wouldn’t it be normal for us to bomb the support bases used in Atlantis? I believe so

And so the Italian government—you three—should ask yourselves if you consider yourselves responsible for any damage inflicted on Italy and the Italians, as a consequence of your choice to support Ukraine (the question is rhetorical, but it must be asked)

I’m in St. Petersburg for SPIEF — the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, but what is it?

Basically Davos, but without the Illuminati-type crowd.

You get the sense that attendees came here to build something for their people — not just cut deals over champagne and private jets.

🇷🇺🇺🇸 Bering Strait breakthrough: Russia, US take huge step closer to Alaska tunnel megaproject

Russia and the US will sign an agreement on June 5 to continue designing a tunnel beneath the Bering Strait, RDIF chief Kirill Dmitriev said at SPIEF.

💬 "The tunnel will be built," Dmitriev vowed, describing it as one of the largest infrastructure projects ever linking the two countries.

    The proposed project:

🔸 Would connect Russia and Alaska beneath the Bering Strait

🔸 Dmitriev previously said the tunnel could be completed in under eight years

🔸 Donald Trump has called the idea "interesting"

🔸 Russian officials say the project requires political will from both sides

▪️Earlier, Dmitriev noted that a tunnel connecting Russia and Alaska across the Bering Strait could be built in less than eight years, and its cost would not exceed $8 billion.

The Kremlin is once again dusting off its old dream — a tunnel between Chukotka and Alaska.

Kirill Dmitriev said that tomorrow at SPIEF Russia and the US will sign an agreement to continue designing the project. It’s the same “Putin-Trump tunnel” idea they were pushing hard in 2025: a rail and cargo tunnel under the Bering Strait, 70–112 km long. They claim it can be built for under $8 billion in less than eight years using Elon Musk’s Boring Company technology. Traditional estimates start at $65 billion and up. Funding is supposedly coming from Russia, China and other “partners.”

Reality looks a lot harsher. On both sides there’s basically empty tundra. Chukotka has only about 48,000 people. On the Alaska side the tunnel would surface near the tiny village of Wales, with no proper roads or rail for thousands of kilometers in any direction.

You’d also need to build several thousand more kilometers of connecting infrastructure across permafrost, in a seismically active zone with strict environmental protections. That alone would cost way more than the tunnel itself.

In the US this would run into years of lawsuits over indigenous lands, wildlife protection and permafrost issues. All of it makes the whole idea look like pure fantasy

    🇷🇺 STANISLAV KRAPIVNIK 🇷🇺

“The war will last for a couple of decades. We need to learn to live with it.”

A powerful speech by the legendary intelligence officer and professional analyst Andrey Bezrukov at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. It resonates with what I usually say in response to the question: "When will all this end?" I reply: "Accept that war is our new normal."

    Key theses - in quotes.

    🔻 New type of war
"We are in a new war. Since it's pointless to seize territory anymore... this is a war of attrition and subversion." "Leaders, military, civilians, scientists" and "critical infrastructure on which the country depends" are being targeted. "This is the war we need to prepare for. It's happening, and it will continue."

🔻 West's strategy of 'boiling the frog'
"The West's strategy is very simple: to avoid a nuclear clash with us, from which they would emerge as losers. And so they need to 'boil the frog slowly' - gradually escalate tensions." "We're seeing this today. And they won't stop, because they have nowhere to retreat to. We're an existential threat to them."

🔻 First 'hill' of world war
"We're currently on the first hill of world war. There will be two hills, as in the First and Second World Wars... The rules of the game will be born after the next clash. It's likely to happen in Asia." What happened in Iran, he says, "proves that the hegemon is no longer the hegemon."

    🔻 Strike on nuclear forces
The enemy's main task is to "avoid the nuclear threshold... and neutralize our nuclear forces": either by building a system in space to "prevent anything from taking off", or "like in Operation 'Spider Web', planting it here through their agents and striking our nuclear forces at a certain moment."

🔻 Destabilization and strike on infrastructure
"The plan is to overwhelm our decision-making system with complex attacks from all directions - ideological, physical, military." Already today, "a drone can fly into any region via Starlink and land in a precise location... Unfortunately, we weren't ready for it."

    🔻 Threat of biowar
"All those labs around us... were making weapons of the future." Technology allows "an individual on individual equipment to create viruses that... could wipe us all out."

    🔻 What to do
"We must admit that for the next... couple of decades we will be at war... We will have two generations that can practically be considered at war." The economy needs to be built in such a way that it "not only fulfills the task of development, but also the task of defense": deepen and protect critical infrastructure, create a "headquarters" for management, invest in protection against bioterrorism, and merge the army and society.

    🔻 'Stop being good'
"We need to stop being good. We're too good for our enemies... They don't fear us because many red lines remain on paper." At the same time, Western Europe is dependent on imported gas, and "exploding a gas tanker is equivalent to a small nuclear explosion." The expert's conclusion: the country needs an "image of the future."

Russia's external debt is only 10% of GDP, mostly private, government debt is a tiny amount of that

    Russia declares financial sovereignty
Russia has achieved economic sovereignty, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov has announced at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). The minister warned of risks to the country’s finances “amid global lawlessness.”

Financial sovereignty and autonomy over economic policy has been secured, he said, adding that Russia operates without external sources of investment and relies only on itself.

“For several years, Russia has been living in conditions of global lawlessness, so it is important to pay close attention to the country’s finances, as this will reduce the negative impact of such shocks,” Siluanov told a SPIEF panel on Thursday.

The minister vowed that Moscow will soon fully repay its external debt, adding that real incomes in Russia have increased by more than 24% over the past three years.

Siluanov also called for protecting this sovereignty, highlighting that the country’s financial and economic independence must be preserved despite unfavorable external conditions.

The 29th SPIEF 2026, often referred to as the ‘Russian Davos’, is taking place from June 3 to 6, welcoming around 20,000 businesspeople, politicians, and public figures from more than 100 nations.

Apart from Siluanov, the panel ‘Regions in the Face of Global Challenges: How to Maintain Financial Stability and Stimulate Development’ was attended by top speakers including Russian Construction and Housing Minister Irek Fayzullin, Accounts Chamber auditor Natalia Trunova, and the head of Moscow’s Complex of Urban Development Policy and Construction, Vladimir Efimov.

The opening day of the forum featured the official ceremony of SPIEF 2026, where key speakers included Russian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksander Novak, First Deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Daniyar Amangeldiev, and Eduardo Pedrosa, executive director of the APEC Secretariat.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to address the gathering on Friday.

Putin was asked whether he plans to stay in power until 2036:

Journalist: "Mr President, you’ve been running the country for 26 years. Do you plan to stay in office until 2036, as the Constitution seems to allow? And do you think you’ll have the stamina and health to make it that far?"

Putin: "Only God knows whether I, you, or anyone in this room will have the health to live until tomorrow, or the day after tomorrow, never mind solving the tasks before us and reaching the goals we set. That’s the first thing.

"As for my own decisions, yes, the Constitution does allow me to run in 2030. But I think it’s far too early to talk about that. Honestly, much too early."
