    Better Man (2024)

Robert Williams reviews the life of Robbie Williams. He doesn't pull punches on himself: brutally self-aware, the ugly truth is confessed by a cheeky entertainer in a highly entertaining way. It's a strange combination but really works in this movie.

Robbie is played by an animated chimp alongside actors who play his co-celebrities, and all the actors playing people that I recognised look like them.

It's a musical but with descent songs, which I think were cut short but that really works; like, the emphasis is on having the music emoting the scene rather than egotistically interrupting the play to make everyone listen to it, which is my experience of songs in musicals. I didn't realise that until I watched this one.

From start to end I laughed, awed, cringed, and cried. I recognised myself in plenty of scenes thanks to Robbie/Robert's brutal honesty.

I was never a Take That fan unlike my older sister (Jason was her favouret but she loved them all and was chuffed when Robbie found his feet and did his own thing), but I joined in with Britain loving Robbie's solo hits. That said I was never a fanatic fan but I totally recommend this movie because it's so beautifully brutal and (ironically) egoless.

Seriously, I loved this movie so much I'd really like to recommend to you that you stop what you're doing right now and watch it

It's been called everything from a woke disaster to a deconstruction of toxic masculinity, or even a glorious throwback to the 1980s cartoon, so which is it? Well, join me for my review and we'll find out.

"Resident Alien" The thing I found inspiring about the 4 seasons of the SyFy series "Resident Alien" is that the creators managed to treat subjects like:
    Abductees/Witnesses/Hybrids
    ...Greys, Mantids, Blue Avians
...and other alien species invading Earth...
...As well as secret 3 letter agencies covering up and obfuscating all those subjects.
Which most Avalonians usually consider to be frightingly real-- but doing it in a consistently humorous and entertaining, though sometimes creepy and morbid way.
(Mind you, it's nothing more than silly escapism, but with a special edge for "Believers", at least, though actual Abductee, Witnesses and Hybrids might not be able to watch it without getting somewhat triggered.)
Most of the action takes place in a small, very scenic town in the Colorado Rockies.
All four seasons are now available online on Hulu for a nominal fee.
(So far, it's looking like there will not be a series 5, but possibly a potential revival in the future.)
Here is a 2022 trailer introducing the series:

The Critical Drinker analyzes the Hong Kong action film The Furious, highlighting its focus on brutal, well-choreographed hand-to-hand combat. This review examines how the movie prioritizes practical stunt work over Western CGI-heavy trends, while following two individuals who unite to rescue loved ones from a criminal child trafficking organization.

    Hi BMJ,

Can you explain to me what you found uplifting or inspiring about this film?

Same question applies to your previous contribution, perhaps you thought this thread was Thought-Provoking-Movies-etc.
